Custom Minifig: Emperor Frederick Barbarossa
vlai23 replied to Ye Olde Pirate's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Very nice. I happen to be currently reading Baudolino by Umberto Eco, in which Emperor Frederick Barbarossa plays a central role. Now I will only be able to picture this as I read. :) -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion

Since the Skier in Series 2 has new skis, I wouldn't be surprised to see a new ice skate mold. I wonder how they would do the blades. It would be cool if used the 'illegal' connection of wedging a plate vertically between two studs! -
I really like this cabin as well. I wish the upcoming creator log cabin set looked more like this one, with the walls comprised of actual rounded 'logs.' The green roof does look good in this model, but I don't think that such grass roofs are too common in the USA, unlike Scandinavia. In fact, the first time I remember personally seeing such a roof in real life was on the train to Billund. :)

Wow, this (and your others on flickr) are extremely stunning. I grew up in Phoenix & have always been struck by Hopi Kachinas, from being creeped out by them as a small child. Your MOCs are much better than the "authentic Navajo (?!) kachinas" I recently saw in some catalog, haha. These look like the real thing and belong in the Heard Museum! :)

Here's the one I carved last week (also my avatar hehe).

Went to a pumpkin party last night. :) -
Also one of my favorites from back in the day. Definitely looking forward to the Week 4 Bricktober minifig!

You can see the blue plate on the right edge of the main model too, under the canoe/kayak. This cabin is definitely my favorite of all these new sets, and it isn't even truly a "City"-line set! My only complaint thus far is that the 'logs' are rectangular?!

Minifg collectors series 2 pics and barcodes

I did find four Spartans in a box at TRU a couple weeks ago. It looked like I was the first one to get my mitts on the box, as it was rather full, but I did not personally see the TRU employee unseal it, so who knows how that happened. Probably just another factory error. The store had a "4-per family" rule, so guess which ones I bought. -
I really like this MOC. It is a great representation of the original & shows that not every modular building needs to be overly detailed (i.e., almost baroque style) to look nice, accurate & real-world. One minor suggestion--those planters in the original photo look just like the bottom halves of the LEGO treasure chests...

I used the hands for olive crowns in a recent Olympic Games MOC: http://www.brickshel...y.cgi?i=4638215

Wow, while reading the excellent SW Republic comic as it was being published, I would never have imagined that there would ever be an official LEGO Quinlan Vos minifig. I am extremely excited just about that (even if he has to be via CW).

Thank you for your comments everyone! I really appreciate them. Luckily my local LEGO store had tan 2x6 & 2x8 plates and 1x8 tan bricks on their Pick-a-Brick wall a few months back, so I was able to stock up rather cheaply back then (as I have the desire to do some kind of Tatooine scene at some point). Lightningtiger, I unfortunately don't have any of the LEGO dynamite pieces, but I did have to partially dismantle my Emerald Night for its 1x2 & 1x3 tan plates and the smooth dark green 1x4s of the flag, so I guess that kinda counts as Col. Lawrence & co. being responsible for its demolition.

Now I'm even more excited for this set. That sad face on the kid made me laugh a lot for some reason. Also those must be expensive baked goods the lady is buying; I wonder if they have some sort of special ingredients.

I've been fascinated with the PoP sets recently, and rewatching one of my favorite films the other night, decided to try some customized Lawrence of Arabia and Sharif Ali minifigs. Later I decided should use the few horses I had to make some Harith horsemen to accompany them. Then I didn't want to photograph them just on the floor, so I slapped together whatever tan plates I had to make a base and took a few photos. I was unhappy with these pictures, however, and soon had the idea to make a real base, hoping to recreate the wind-swept ripples of sand dunes. This is what I could come up with, using my unfortunately meager selection of tan pieces. This is pretty much my first "formal" MOC vignette. I would have liked to have been more consistent with the color of the faces (making T.E. Lawrence one color and everyone else another), but the yellow head used for Sharif Ali was the only one I had with a plain mustache. Please let me know what you think! More photos at my Brickshelf.

Be careful with that... I had asked for the 10199 for Christmas last year, and it had sold out before my family could pick one up. But that box looks great, and I am eagerly anticipating Christmas this year... in August.

I saw the Family Home set at Target (in Portland, Oregon) last night.

My favorite is the 6085 Black Monarch's Castle. I remember as a kid, I felt the raised baseplates on the subsequent castles were 'cheating' us out of bricks!
-
This is a really nice job. I haven't even opened my PRT yet, but this makes me want to run out & buy another!

This looks spectacular! The light brown arches makes it look like a gingerbread house.

Or maybe something to launch Palpatine himself... battle attack Palpatine! Kind of like the Jetpack Clone flipper-launcher thingy from the Tank Droid set.

I don't mind the flick-fire missiles too much, as long as they are well-integrated and don't interfere with the aesthetics of the model too much. Disguising them as headlights here is a good example. However, if the missiles keep falling out every time you pick up the ship, that's another story entirely...
