  1. How about "Curse of the Block Pearl" :) CM
  2. Pretty sure Pirate was the first theme to abandon the smiley. Female fig's have appeared in lego sets since the advent of the mini fig, but the Wench is the first one to have an obvious female face and bodice. CM
  3. Join the Minifig Reveiw! Post on color scheme, parts, preference, etc. Decide which hoist the flag of piracy and which are condemned to Broadside's prison! This week's minifig is... The Pirate Wench So thought's people?
  4. Excellent, I'm actually working on the same project. Nice to see I'm not alone. Have you considered converting some of the other blue/white space sets? Cheers, CM
  5. To be honest, I use Bricklink mostly to pick up individual parts. Probably the easiest and cheapest way to use it. CM
  6. I have with good results. I check out ebay & Bricklink and use that as a rough guide of what the sets worth. Always make sure that the store ship to you and check out the shipping price before buying. Feel free to ask the store owner about the condition of the set if your worried. Cross Bone Clipper There's 4 for sale at around the $US65 mark. If you've bene watching ebay for this you can work out if thats a reasonable price. Cheers, CM
  7. No probs people. The idea book scans can be found here Peeron Idea Books Only 260 & 697 have pirate designs. 697 designs being much weaker. Kudos to the Classic-Castle.com who gave me the idea. They also do pictorial reviews of the alternate models from the back of the boxes. Hope you enjoyed it. CM
  8. Bo'sun Will?
  9. A little treat for those hankering for a new pirate set to whet their appetite. The design for the set comes from idea book 260 Page 42 & Page 43. The fort itself is for the Soldier a nice little mid range design somewhere between the smaller Bastion and larger Fort Eldorado. The pieces used can all be found in those two sets by the way and are pretty common parts for a pirate fan anyway. The fort is designed to be held by four mini figures, Admiral Broadside, a commodore and two troopers, a nice staff all in all and if available for purchase most people would be happy with the minifig count. Also it is very easy to swap torsos and flags to turn this into an Imperial Guards outpost. The build was very satisfying the instructions being easy to follow. I was surprised at how good the final design came out, the palm accents the design quite well. A few nice touchs are included, a cannon ball shelf to aid in quick loading of the cannon, a soldier gunner with rammer and a small dock to tie up the boat at. I would recommend anyone looking for a nostalgic walk down memory lane build this fort. Final rating 5/5 Brickshelf Gallery CM THIS IS NOT A MOC This is a set designed by The LEGO Group whose instructions can only be found in Ideas Book 260
  10. This is probably old news, but was looking over the Adventures stuff and thought the islander fans might like the Amazon sets. Another torse for the Islanders. CM
  11. The brightness of the colour is always weird with these things. Like looking at lego under halogen lights with a hangover. CM
  12. Little too much rivet counting for me. CM
  13. This may help - Wikipedia - Lateen Sails CM
  14. Didn't want to go near the thing. (BRICKOS make Baby Jesus cry!) Since they used the same box art, it was hard to tell. Would have to open it to find out I'll guess. If it's still there next Trusday I'll do a recon for you. CM
  15. The novels their based on are classics as well. Hornblower is a much more morally ambigious character in them. Also there's the 1983 movie Yellowbeard. I hesitate to mention this, but one of my sisters favourite movies is the musical Pirates, starring Olivia New Town John. Basically an updated version of Pirates of Penzance. And for the children in everyone Muppets Treasure Island (with Tim Curry) is one I always enjoy watching with my Niece and Nephew. CM
  16. Interestingly enough I saw a market stall selling Brickos in Maryborough, Australia (it's a small town north of Brisbane), where I live (for the moment). They had an exact copy of the Black Seas Barracuda for sale for $AU68, that's about $US55. CM
  17. Very nice MOC. Like the colour scheme, looks like it belongs to the Nova Cats. This is the only Timber Wolf I've seen that captures the feel of the mech. A couple of easy modifications though. The side mounted missle pods might look better with 15 small black cones & a small joystick mount (no joystick) to represent the Artemis IV FCS. I've seen a couple attempts to use the Millenium Falcon canopy to get that nice bomber cockpit look for the mech, you might want to check that out. Well done. CM
  18. For those interested in diversifying their ports a little, there is an interesting thread at classic-castle on producing female figures for castle which might be of interest Female Castle Figures
  19. Digging up an old thread, this has probably been mentioned, 4768 Harry Potter: The Durmstrang Ship offers some interesting parts. CM
  20. My sets: 6232 - Skeleton Crew 6235 - Buried Treasure 6245 - Harbor Sentry x 2 6255 - Pirate Comic (with Figures) 6257 - Castaway's Raft 6260 - Shipwreck Island x 2 6274 - Caribbean Clipper 6265 - Sabre Island 6276 - Eldorado Fortress 6285 - Black Seas Barracuda All opened. Pretty much 1990 was my last year of lego purchases, although I did pick up the occasional set to look at new developments like the ghost and skeleton. CM
  21. My favourite: Just cause it was the first female figure head and an excellent torso. Least Favourite: Cause I must have 15 of his torso, would it have been so hard to make this design in different colours? As for the Plumes, depends on the figure. Though I do like using the little white ones as quills. CM
  22. Also I should point out this is an overall view of the set design. The pirate sets are all pretty good, even the much maligned islanders (I like them). If you look at another theme, such as Space or Castle, the subthemes are very diverse in quality. Some of the early grey castles are okay, but the later ones like the Black Falcon Fortress & Guarded Inn are steps beyond in deisgn. Space on the other hand has strong Classics like the Galaxy Explorer series, with some very weak themes such as UFO, Life On Mars etc. Back on topic this set is called the Governor's Ship "Sea Hawk" in Australia. CM
  23. I meant against even the later pirate/armada/soldier/IG ships this still looks pretty good. CM
  24. These were the last sets I got before my Dark Age. Twas compensation for living in Tom Price W.A., it's a little mining town 1600 km north of Perth. Good money but no life. Another interesting point about this set is that is first generation pirates and really holds it own when compared with the later sets. CM
  25. Was Christmas present from my parents close to fifteen yeas ago. CM
