  1. Great figures Globemaster. Brilliant decals with a very impressive amount of detail. Wasn't really sure what kind of band I would see when I opened the topic but these guys just made me go wow! Thanks for sharing the decals. I look forward to giving them a try on some soldiers I am planning to make.
  2. Perfect! Thanks very much Globemaster. I will try and get some pics up in a couple of weeks when I get home to my Lego collection for a bit. Did you create that decal? I will make sure I give you credit for it.
  3. I have been through the pirate library but have not found anything for what I want to do. I am looking for the modern ceremonial interpretation of a redcoat instead of fighting soldiers for a pirate/Napoleonic battle scene.
  4. I am looking for a ceremonial guards torso decal like these Scots Guards troops. I have tried to make one up myself but with very little success so if someone with more artistic talent than me (which is pretty much anyone ) could give it a go I would be very grateful. Thanks, John
  5. Thanks Shoc. I will see if I can get anything like that tomorrow and give it a try. If I use the transparent stuff will I have to remove the torso printing from my figs before applying decals?
  6. Hey guys. I am having trouble printing off some decals I got from the pirate library and a few other places and want to try on some figs. I have no problem resizing them but when they print some of the colours look rubbish, particularly red and green ( I have a feeling blue might too but I haven't tried one yet) while yellow and black look ok. When printed the reds and greens look faded and a bit grainy. I am using a Kodak Easyshare 5100 printer with 90g/m2 paper and resizing and printing the decals with MS Word. Any help would be very much appreciated. John
  7. Great work imperialshadows. Was a bit dubious at first on the concept of a yellow Indy jacket but as soon as I saw it I thought I need to make a minifig of the late great Freddie Mercury. All I need is to get my printer to do decals properly!
  8. Thanks for the comments guys, glad you like them. I did get some helmets with my last order of BrickArms but I didn't really like the way they looked on these troops so I am goint to try them on some other ones soon.
  9. A while (at least 10 years) ago I created some military special forces minifigs with torso covers for camouflage who I have now revived thanks to my discovery of the amazing BrickArms and I thought I would show them off here as well. Here is a pic of one of the squads in woodland camo And one of some new troops I made in desert camo For more pics and full descriptions of the squads I have threads on the BrickArms forums for the woodland and desert troops. For more pics including a couple of the woodland troops in action here is the Brickshelf folder The uniforms for these troops are made of coloured paper (green felt tip for woodland and printed tan for desert) with brown and black stripes to give the camo pattern held in place by a belt round the bottom of the torso and all held together by Blu-tac/sticky tac. Each trooper also has a knife or axe while some have pistols and flashbangs in paper holsters also held together with Blu-tac. I am thinking of glueing the uniforms together for a better hold and finding a way of protecting the colours from fading and the uniforms from damage so if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. I have had a couple of requests for the instructions/patterns for making these guys and particularly the holsters on the BrickArms folders so if people are interested I can also post some pics here. Hope you like them and I look forward to your comments.
  10. Thanks again for the help. Got my order yesterday. For those who are interested it was shipped Parcel Force and arrived in Aberdeen on Monday but I had to wait till yesterday to collect it. Now have Market Street and Town Plan to incorporate into my city. I would have got Green Grocer but I placed my order one day too early :-( I will take some pics over the weekend if I can and update my thread in the Trains and Town forum for anyone who wants to see.
  11. Great review Dunamis. This set looks even better than Cafe Corner (which I think may be the best set I own) and I will definitely be getting it. Unfortunately it showed up on S@H UK on Saturday, the day after I had ordered Town Plan and Market Street! If only I had known to wait a day for this beauty :-( I will make sure to get it sometime soon to give me plenty of time to save up for the next installment. My only problem is where do I put this in my hideously overcrowded town?
  12. Excellent figs Sir Nadroj, especially Daniel Plainview, the head you have picked works brilliantly for him. I saw the film on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it although I did occasionally drift off into my own thoughts of how do I make an old style wooden oil derrick from Lego? Might have to put that on my ever increasing Lego "to do" list!
  13. Thanks again for all the help. I have placed my order using standard shipping and will be sure to let you guys know how I get on.
  14. Thanks for the help guys. Are DHL used for express shipping only or standard and express? I am just going to go for standard since I will not be near my town for a couple of weeks so I don't see the need to pay extra for express(that and the money saved going standard means I can spend more on sets!)
  15. Hi, I tried to post this in the buy, sell, trade forum but wasn't allowed to. I assume its because I have not made enough posts in other forums to start a new thread there. Anyway my question is this: What method does Lego shop at home use for delivery in the UK? The reason I ask is that since I am at work all day and will not be in to recieve any deliveries. If it is sent Royal Mail thats easy enough since I can pick it up from the sorting office down the road but if its a courier thats more of a pain since I always seem to end up spending days chasing them to get my stuff and it might be easier to get it sent to a different address. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I have been meaning to put up a picture of my city layout here for a while but never quite got round to it till now so here goes. Full gallery I have just linked to the gallery since the pics are quite large. I will need to get some with a lower resolution next time I am home. As you can see there is a lot going on and due to space constraints it is a bit crowded (as shown by some parts overhanging the edge of the table slightly, unfortunately gravity sometimes takes its toll on parts of the town!) One day I hope to have my own place with space for a much larger layout but for now this is the best I can do although there may be problems when I get the top 3 sets on my current wish list: Market Street, Town Plan and Green Grocer. I can't wait to hear any comments you guys have.
  17. My current one is the half price holiday train. Saw it at the start of the week and thought I would leave it till pay day. Get home from work today and its sold out. D'OH!!!!!
  18. Can I nominate A Minifig is for life run by Wattsa. I have ordered from them a couple of times and their service is excellent They have a good selection of parts and minifigs, shipping is fast and they are the UK distributor for the fantastic Brickarms.
  19. This is a great idea and something I have contemplated doing when I have the time/space/money/Lego. My plan if I did something like this would be to have one main city based on a commercial/industrial theme. This would include a police station, fire station, hospital, port, office blocks and some lower quality housing. I would then link this by road and rail to an airport and a residential suburb. This suburb would have better quality housing and a small shopping area. I would also try and incorporate some residential elements like a beach and sets like this marina. Other things this are may have would be a school and sports facilities. As well as this I would like to make a small mountain community linked to this. Not sure though whether this would be for tourists or populated by survivalist type crazies! I also like your idea of a water feature but see a couple of downsides. First is the fact that Lego only make a small number of boats that float on water compared to those that don't and these tend to be quite large. The other problem would be if I tried this I would more than likely make a complete mess of it and flood my house! One idea I have thought of in the past is making a canal or river using blue plates or tiles set at a slightly lower level than the main city. This would require either propping up the rest of the city or cutting into the surface it is on. This is just something I think would look cool but not sure how well it will work. If I ever try it I will let you know!
  20. 25% off all Lego at Tesco Direct not sure if it applies in store or how long the offer is for.
  21. For the Brits here Argos have a toy sale with savings on many sets including city, castle, mindstorms and Star Wars. The sale ends next Tuesday (November 20th) and is available in store and on their website so I think I will be getting myself a harbour at the weekend X-D

    Train help needed

Thanks for the replies guys. I read about 9V being discontinued but it still seems like the best way to go to me. From looking at shop at home and BL I think most items are cheaper from BL in the UK. Shop at home UK only has tracks and motors now and only motors are reasonably proced compared to bricklink. I think I will pick up one of everything I need and see where to go from there. Only problem then is trying to find somewhere to put it as my town is very pushed for space without adding a railway! Quick edit: Is there any difference between using this motor 10153 versus this one 590 May be a bit of a stupid question but I don't want to end up with a motor that is no use.
  23. I'm sorry if this has been discussed before but I am looking for some help on getting started with 9V trains. I have recently got the Santa Fe Super Chief and am wanting to get the basics for a 9V layout. As far as I can gather I need the following for a basic kit: 1 Train motor 1 regulator with a transformer 1 set of contacts At least 16 curved tracks I don't think I have missed anything vital but it is always best to ask the experts first. Any help or directions to useful websites for information on getting started would be greatly appreciated.
  24. Just saw this castle on Brickshelf and was really impressed with it. Was going to post a link on here but was beaten to it :-D
  25. Payment for JSN sent. It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine :-D
