    WIP HMS Artemis

Alright, it's been some time and I have an update: Building on the HMS Artemis is currently suspended as the computer I was working on went down literally 2 days after my last update. So, we went to the geek Squad, and I'm not thoroughly impressed (no offense if any one is one here ). We asked to have LDD and all files ending in ".lxf" to be transferred to the new hard drive, but it didn't happen. We have the old drive, and maybe could transfer them over, but not until next week at the earliest. And I have classes starting up again, so that takes even more time away. So right now I believe the Artemis is going to be rebuilt from scratch. I hope I can start finishing the planning ASAP and start the build before Christmas. But let's hope I can finish it where I left off!

    HMS Pallas

That's a really beautiful ship, angelzoo! I love the design of the sails, and the color scheme is very nice! I'd love to see more of your ships!
  3. Well, I'm thinking around 5.5-6 feet for ease. The width really isn't a problem to me. I'm planning on making a minifigure-scale Rogue Shadow or Slave I 9or maybe both at some point) and Starkiller is the tallest at 1.85 meters which roughly equals 6ft. This is my scale: So you can see this is a bit big. Of course, this thing is coming after the HMS Artemis is done... Thanks for the opinions, guys!
  4. Currently, I'm reading Soul of the Fire by Terry Goodkind for the sixth time. I love the Sword of Truth series. are there any Terry Goodkind fans on here? But I just recently finished Lord of the Flies and To Kill a Mockingbird for school. IMHO, I like the latter much more. LOTF was alright, but WAY below my expectations.
  5. I know as I own some spiderman sets, but I posted in another topic which was merged with this one. I'm also referring to them making comebacks.
  6. ISC, that's amazing. I love the tree and all the commotion going on. but what's with the ewok??
  7. Sorry, this might be a stupid question, but how tall is a normal LEGO Minifigure to scale? Would he be 6 feet tall? I'm estimating since the average human is like 6 feet. Or possibly 5? Just wondering.
  8. Congratulations winners!!! You all had wonderful entries/ This shows Redcoat Superieority! I can't wait till next year when us Redcoats can crush you again!

    No moderator day.

You meaning brickfilms.com, ZO6? If so, I remember that site very well. i have a suggestion. We open up a secret part of the forum for a day, and for the fist x-amount of signer-uppers, they will have to be mods and admins for that sub-forum for a day. Then they can see everything that the mods deal with. Of course, the "secret forum" would have to be accessible to the public, so posts could be made. And after that day, the mods and admins (the real ones here on Eurobricks) could either delete all the spam 9lots of hassle though...) or close the forum and lock it, just to show as a reminder to show what they have to deal with. Just an idea.
  10. I've only built one ship so far, but I do have good ideas on what you need. Hull parts: but you need to choose what kind you want, the old hulls, or new hulls. They make all the difference. Or if you even want to do a brick-built hull. Tumblehome: there are a few ways to achieve this, with either sloping bricks, or having hinge pieces. Rigging: Do you want official parts, or do it yourself? Cannons and crew: This comes last, but they help plan on the size of your ship. But really, just look around the forums and you'll fin inspiration. CGH has a wonderful guide to build a frigate, and look at Le Fouregeux (spelling?) or the HMS Unicorn. Look in the indexes as well. Hope this helps!!
  11. Well, Family Guy and the Simpsons are a no way. Tolkien would be perfect! And Phineas and Ferb would be a nightmare! Sure, they could have a lot of sets, but it would all get very monotonous. I could also see a lot of Pixar, which would be very neat, IMHO. And Batman and Spider-Man are possibilities, but slight ones at that. Ones that I would love to see, but I know never will, are: -Spartacus: Blood and Sand. (I've never seen the show, and I am offended by the content from hear-say, but it would be nice) -HBO's Rome (Another that would NEVER happen) -Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels (these are a somewhat possibility, if they ever made them into films, or if the show was picked up again, as it is a Disney/ABC production, but still a long shot) -Tom Clancy (way too violent, but hey, who wouldn't want to see Jack Ryan, Ding Chavez, and John Clark?)
  12. I totally agree that it all comes down to parenting. Guns are not something to take lightly, but they are extremely useful in the LEGO world. First, we need to step away from bringing the licensed themes into the discussion because, well, they're the licensed themes! They are not LEGO's brain-children, and if any complaints in violnece are wanted, take it up with Disney, Spielberg, or Lucas. But I can hear people say "but it's TLG's choice to use those themes!" Yes, it is their choice, but look at the times. It started with Star Wars, all because of an economic downturn for the company. They needed something to jumpstart it again. Now they are milking licensed themes (maybe no to the fullest extent, for some, such as IJ, loads of more possibilities) and kids love it! But as I see it, this discussion is not just about Town and City, but the rest of LEGO themes as well. Of course, if LEGO started having a line called "Drug Cartel: Goody Guy Takedown", and have a set called "Smuggler's Day" where 'Drug Lord #3' is smuggling drugs and killing cops, then I would have serious concerns about TLG's employees mental help, and might switch over to Playmobil a bit more. So, I guess I'm reiterating what I said before, guns would be great for CITY sets, leave the kids to create their own stories. If I wanted to make a story about Drug Lords, I'm sure I would, but why would I do that? That's weird. Now I wouldn't have a problem with an Al Capone line though.... hmm
  13. I heard from somebody that they're going to have a Young Nathan Drake in there. I don't know if he will be playable, or just in a flashback.
  14. As others say, historically there were vassals and the king, and why not with LEGO? Here's how I place them Good Army: -My sigfig (in Medieval attire) as the King -Crown knights work under him as his direct bodyguards -The new Lion Knights are vassals -Regular civilians to fight, ranging from old Star Wars torsos to Aang and Sokka. -One Forestman as a Mercenary -my 3 Jelly-Bellies as the front-line defense so they can be slaughtered first -one wizard as my head general (but sometimes he works for my brother) Bad Army: -Scorpion knights, (including Vladek, the only cool KKII knight in my opinion) -Skeleton warriors -Orcs as mercenaries, but they would never fight for me -a Firebender (but he uses a glaive) and a Fire Nation Soldier -3 Dragon Knights (new ones) But I feel that any of these factions can stand alone on their own, as well. Personally, I love the Dragon Knights and if I can get more, I'm making them my own personal bodyguards, or if I can get more Scorpion Knights.
  15. *In an overly dramatized American Southern accent* Well, it be because us bandits and Jesse James wannabees are so overly stereotyped in pop culture that this LEGO group decided if they didn't give us guns, we'd ride our horses into their factory and demand them and put them on train tracks!! Yee haw!! Sorry for the above, I couldn't resist. I was originally on the fence, but as I said before, I voted yes. And, Joebot, guns and swords are definitely two different things. Now while both have historically been used to kill people, swords are more romanticized nowadays. I applaud you for not allowing your children to use guns, (although I don't know how old they are, but don't tell me anyway, and I assume they are about 6 or so). I believe guns are useful (2nd Amendment right in the States) but children need to know to respect them. Of course, as others I believe may have said, why don't we just use the Agents as a SWAT team? Especially the second wave with those ly vests. But then, we reach the same problem.... where are the guns? All I see are lasers for the baddies, nice vehicles all around, and squirt guns for the heroes... So I believe that in a few years at least, we may see guns pop up, hopefully. Playmobil has always done well in their police themes (I love Playmobil as well... Don't beat me up!! ) so maybe LEGO will get a whiff of the ideas soon and finally we can get stuff in sets.
  16. After much debate, I voted YES. When you look around, there is a lot of violence happening in the world, war or not. Look at many of the cities in the United States: gun related violence. Now, I'm not advocating to give grenades, M16s, and AKs on the criminal or average burglar (and I'm also not saying a war theme, but I'll touch on that later), that's what third party vendors (brickforge, Brickarms, etc.) are for. Now, KD, I agree with most of this list for the CITY Theme. The only thing I don't like is guns for the burglars. I know it is not realistic, but LEGO is never going to allow (well, maybe not for a few years at least) guns on the bandits. That would practically be the equivalent of saying cop-killing is perfectly fine and then let's scrap the CITY Police sub-theme and make a Grand Theft Auto theme. I really don't even care if the bandits have gun, when you get down to it, I just don't want anything bad happening to LEGO for "endorsing" an M-rated video game (but every kid nowadays seems to play it...) I do really love the SWAT unit though, never know when a riot happens or a random well-armed burglar (most likely from our own collection of weaponry...) will show up. Rainbow Six anybody? As for the "hard violence" you mentioned, I would say that is against the non-violence policy, but it would be nice, IMHO, to have one. Of course, I'm sure if there were modern day terrorist-like minifigures, Billund would get bombed, so MW2 is not happening. If anything, it would be a sort of "Military Police" we would see. So, moderated violence and guns are a good thing, sort of like candy!! Great to have, but in moderation. I mean with no guns, how do Police take down the robbers? Do they act like Jack Bauer or Jason Bourne and beat they guy with whatever is around until he surrenders or back up arrives? Guns in CITY for the win!

    WIP HMS Artemis

I designed one side last night with how you said for the curve effect, Captain Genaro. it looks pretty good, and I like it. UPDATE TIME: I know what you are all thinking: Where's the update?? well, there it is for you: Nothing. I woke up this morning and tried to run the laptop I use for LDD, Steam, other games, film making, etc (it's a shared computer anyway, as well), and it wouldn't start up!! After 1 hour, it's not running so we need to run it down to Best Buy and get a Geek (that is Best Buy, correct??) So, I cannot even begin to build the HMS Artemis in bricks or LDD for a few days at the least. The two worst possibilities are that I can get the computer running, but I lose all the data and files, and have to rebuild the Artemis from scratch. The other worst case scenario is I need a new computer and have to reinstall LDD and build a new Artemis... just my luck... So, unless the computer gods can't help NEW UPDATE AS I WAS TYPING THIS POST: My laptop is working again! Work on the Artemis shall continue soon!.... just my luck .... So if there are computer gods, or just any deity you prefer, somebody helped! EDIT UPDATE: I didn't think it would be wise to double post, but I've been working on the ladder: Of course it will be black on the real ship, but just to see better, it's blue. How do you guys think it looks?
  18. I saw this story when it originally broke a few weeks back. Not the newest of news, but still an interesting find!! I would love to see that thing!!

    WIP HMS Artemis

Sorry for the double post. I just returned from vacation (about two days ago and I just now started to work on the HMS Artemis). I saw the USS Elissa and I studied her from afar and noticed a good amount of details for inspiration for my ship. Anyway, I think I finally got a nice design for the bow. What do you guys think?
  20. KotZ

    WIP HMS Artemis

Well, I think we're both just getting confused now. I do have an extra bow piece, so I can be doing some experimenting. Unfortunately, I'll be on vacation for the next week, so no new updates or anything. I might find time to get on here at EB, but nothing more. But when I get back, work on the ship will be finished ASAP.
  21. No!! Not the American ships!! I may be a Redcoat, but American ships always have some sort of fighting spirit( maybe because I am an American). May her glory be in our memories, and a new ship, even better rise forth, so I can crush it!! But seriously, wrong move Fire-storm, that ship is too cool to be scuttled.

I think I need to explain better. I have that middle part and what not all bent, but I can't connect it to other parts that would be on the hull. I have this (taken from CGH;s tutorial): But I can't get this: I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, LDD won't allow that sort of physics, if CGH is some sort of mythological LEGO ship builder, or if I can only do that part with physical bricks.... I think it's a mix of all of them. Any ideas? And thanks for all the help so far, Captain Genaro.

No, but rather this piece and this piece. The two you showed me aren't in the HMS Artemis (well, so far at least ). The two I showed you are for curving the bow.

    WIP HMS Artemis

That would be very helpful, Captain Becker! The hull would be very useful, and by all means, if you would like to, you can. I've been looking at CGH's tutorial, and I think I've got the gist, but with the angle(the 1x4 plates that adjust in the middle, *sorry, I don't know the correct name for it*) pieces, how do they connect to the other parts? Thanks again!

    WIP HMS Artemis

Thanks for the comments guys! Admiral Croissant, sorry about the pictures. Should I resize the current ones, or all the ones I do from now on? I completely forgot about the size limit! I've been looking at the Achille & Guerriere, as a matter of fact, and I love The Vesta. I now see that the cabin is too tall, and I need to fix that. But that leads to the other end of the ship: The bow. I'm having a hard time with that. It's hard to build around something that isn't there! Especially when it's on a computer! Thanks for all the comments and help so far, everybody!
