Beautiful castle! I love it. You make me I wish I had the pieces and the skill to make something like it too.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion
Erynion replied to legokuate's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Sorry to be the pessimist but... bah, I really have no interest in these sports characters. I'd prefer more elves or pre-medieval era warriors (how about an Egyptian charioteer? and a Roman Centurion or legionary?). There are a few half-interesting ones in these set, but I still think I prefer Series 2 over the other three. Although I am looking forward to giving a few of those hockey players as gifts to the fans in my house... -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
Erynion replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the pic! I haven't had time to read much of this thread but... I'm really really hoping that nobody else is a huge Elf fan/wannabe like me and the prices of those guys aren't going to be ridiculously high on BrickLink/eBay That chainmail tunic looks awesome... And all the LOTR MOCers are going to have to redo their LEGOlas with that new headpiece after this... Other than that though, I think I overall prefer Series 2 over Series 3. -
BrickLink is a great site/marketplace and I am sorry to hear that its founder has passed away.

Wow, beautiful MOC - I wish I had as many green vegetation pieces as you! EDIT: A few more close-up shots of the building might have been nice, but overall the pictures capture the MOC pretty well.

I'm considering trying to put on some castle-ish decals on my torsos and shiels so that my castle soldiers don't have to wear scuba diver and firemen gear and wield Native American shields into battle. I'm not going to do the whole print-stripping rigamarole with glues and all sorts of other fancy chemicals, but I thought of finding the right decals, printing them on my colour printer and simply double-stick taping them onto the torsos and shields. My concern is: If I leave the tape and stuff on for a very long time, will the actual torso/shield print come off with the tape if I one day remove the tape? I'd appreciate input from anyone who has had experience with this. Thanks, ~Erynion~

I see, now it is more clear to me. Those are a couple things I didn't understand or that I didn't really think about. I'll admit that I didn't read into the rules or anything really on the Kylie site (didn't even know who she was until I looked her up on Wikipedia yesterday ). I read the rules for the EB contest a few days ago and then a couple days later this request for people to go vote for the Kylie contest shows up, and the whole thing just seemed a little... not sure what's the word... hypocritical, maybe, but that's too strong. I just had to point it out. You misread me. I'm not trying to show a negative attitude about the whole thing, and I guess 'morality' was probably too strong a word. That last quote was somewhat of a joke anyways...

Quoting WhiteFang... or BertFang... or whoever he is... in the Eurobricks Collectable LEGO Minifigures Series 2 Building Contest Voting... And now quoting HinckleStein or whoever on the frontpage... Hmm, so we're not allowed to rally our friends to vote for us in an EB contest, yet the staff are allowed to rally an entire forum to vote for someone in an off-site contest? Quoting something from a WoW comic from years ago...

As a former World of Warcraft player, I was able to appreciate some of your fantasy characters and associated humour (and of course the general shape of the building ). Although you say it's more based off of Heroes of Might and Magic 3... hmm. Maybe that's why what I took as the 'Alliance' engineer was a dwarf instead of a gnome like I thought it should be... Anyways, the outside looks nice, though IMO the interior looks a bit small, at least for playability's sake... not that most of us care about that factor. Beautiful little MOC, and gratz on getting front-paged.

Now you tell me

Oh... FINE... ya'll convinced me... (Although I still can't get over that it's 50% more expensive in Canada than the US... oh well)
-
Thanks for the responses... It's $150 in Canada, where I live Which doesn't really make sense to me because the dollar difference isn't that big. That's one thing that's holding me back - if it were only 100 (even USD) I'd be more willing to pay for it. On BL the cheapest ones are going for around $120 CAD... hmm, depending on how much they charge for shipping, it might actually be cheaper to get it there than from S@H...

I sort of think that maybe I'd like to get 10193 Medieval Market Village, but I'm not sure ( ), and I'm wondering how long people expect it to available from Shop@Home (and how long it will be before the prices escalate on BrickLink after that...), considering that it's the only Fantasy Era Castle set left on S@H. To wait until I feel more sure or there's a more special offer out; or to buy now... that is the question... And I know the free shipping offer ends today. No pressure, no pressure... Thanks, ~Erynion~

I don't really collect any themes, just minifigures. I've only gotten one actual set (aside from battlepacks, collectible minifigs, and a couple minifig orders on Ebay) in the past... oh, 6 or 7 years. Back when I was a kid, I would spent almost all of my money on LEGO (usually as soon as I got it) on whatever sets were presently around that struck my fancy. If I were to 'collect' a set it would probably be the fantasy Castle line that's ending now. IMO this was one of the better castle themes over the past few years because it had some originality to it (and I'm a medieval fantasy/LOTR fan). The new Kingdoms series is not attractive to me, IMO it's just another castle series like all the others... At the moment I'd really like to get the Medieval Market Village, but... I just can't get myself to feel right about spending that much on a toy that I really won't use much. Hmm. I'd be interested in hearing how much money the average (young?) AFOL spends on LEGO... I should start a thread...

Maybe it's life-size! Now that would be something!

I can only dream of having the LEGO bricks and the talent that you must have to build something like that...

Eurobricks Collectable LEGO Minifigures Series 2 Building Contest
Erynion replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The Dogsledder's Refuge The Skier is having a bit of a mishap during today's downhill blast - he lost control and fell off the designated slope, tumbling down a wooded hill to the side, injuring himself and breaking a ski! When he finally came to a stop, he had no idea where he was. He started trying to find his way back to the resort, but didn't know which way to go. He searched for hours without luck, and then, to his dismay, a fierce snowstorm began. He desperately tried to find his way in the blowing wind and snow, but to no avail. He was lost, wet, and hungry, and in danger of freezing soon. He was about to collapse and give himself up to the elements, when he caught a flicker of light in the distance... Taking heart, the skier summoned his last bit of strength and set off towards the light. He eventually came upon it and found... A dogsledder and his two dogs, taking shelter in a little cave underneath a great snowbank! The three of them are huddled close, warming themselves around a small fire that the sledder had managed to light (and the gusting wind is threatening to put out!). Relieved, the skier trudges over, hoping the dogsledder will be kind enough to make room for him in the little cave... Couple more pictures: Without flash: Better view of the sled: There are a bunch more pictures on my Brickshelf, including the dogsledder "mushing" -
Thanks for the comments. To be honest, I was a little surprised at how serious an issue some of you took with my colours - from my perspective, I just used what I had, like I've always done. This was actually one of my better-coloured models that I've made (most of what I built as a kid - castles, spaceships, everything - were a generally a mix of red, yellow, white, and blue, with little if any realistic colours or even colour-coding). I guess I'm getting used to the world of AFOLs and 'serious' modellers For this model, I'm just going to pretend that the minifigure who owns it has an artistic talent and likes to splash a bit of paint on it during off time

Product Review: BrickForge Centaurs
Erynion replied to Cygnet's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks for the review of the interesting and unique piece. I'm not into Harry Potter, but if I were a bigger Narnia fan, I might consider buying some of these. Since when are there centaurs in LOTR?? If I recall the centaurs from Narnia, the lower body is shaped and coloured like a horse, while the upper body is man-like in shape and colour. So I think that having differently coloured upper body is fine... As for the rest of the discussion on BF's prices - interesting :). I too think stuff is overpriced for what you get, but on the other hand, like some people are saying, they have to charge what they have to charge in order to make a profit on their small volume... Edit: Please don't take my last paragraph too seriously, that was my brief opinion on the issue that I formulated after reading part of this thread, I'm not highly educated in business... -
Yep, that sounds right.
-
A nice looking MOC... On the frontpage... "Notice for example how he has managed to capture all three of mans most important inventions - fire, the wheel and the lego brick." I laughed at the last one. However, I have to point out that fire wasn't man's invention - it was a discovery.

Eurobricks Collectable LEGO Minifigures Series 2 Building Contest
Erynion replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I betcha he won't be getting the Spartan! Lol. Hmm, this is one of the few EB contests that has perked my interest, I might consider entering... hmm... -
Back many months ago when Avatar was in the theaters I saw it and was inspired to build a gunship based on those in the movie. I've been meaning to post this for quite a few months, and I finally got around to it... The MOC isn't strictly colour-coded as I do not have a very large selection of bricks to build with, but I did my best. Like I said, it is based on the gunships from the movie, and I did not attempt to make it an accurate copy. Probably the funnest part of designing it was incorporating a battery pack and motor so that the rotors actually spin on their own. So, without further ado, my first MOC posted on EB... General view: Top view: Side/back profile: Bottom view: A few close-ups of the rotor mechanism: Just look at all those guns... The interior is not detailed except for the control panels in the cockpit, so there isn't much to see (which is good because it was hard to get the camera in there anyways!). I had a better picture of the cockpit somewhere but it... disappeared :( Somehow, a Clone Trooper armed with a bazooka has managed to sneak on board... "We're going up against gunships with bows and arrow"... aahh, but this time we have ROBIN HOOD on our side... That's most of it - there are a few more pictures on my Brickshelf Comments, anyone? Thanks, ~Erynion~

I remembered a few more thoughts I had on this... I'm not sure what the big deal over 'minifig variety' is. For example, I've people disappointed when reviewing old Castle sets or something, that came with 9 minifigs but only 6 unique torsos. I actually dislike 'variety' in this sense - if I'm going to build an army, I want the men to be uniformed in relatively the same armour and colours and coat-of-arms etc. Face print variety is fine in this sense, but for army building, I'd really rather have my minifigs look mostly the same; this seems more realistic to me...
