Review: 7952 Kingdoms Advent Calendar
Bingo Little replied to The Cobra's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My Wizard had his hat misprinted - the buckle is a few mm off. Shame. -
Okay, that's awesome. Seriously well done there - I wondered a while ago about the practicality of Aladdin MOC'ing and dismisssed it as too difficult. Way to prove me wrong. Only gripe I have with it is that that face seems too old for Aladdin - the other figures, particularly Jafar, look great. As does the rest of Aladdin, actually.

One of my friends managed to grab one half price the other day, but nowhere's restocking them - since it's well past December 1st, they're clearing them out.

I love it! The walls seem a little plain, without much colour or texture variation, but the basic shape and details like the cross are awesome. I also love the inside (even the bible with a magic wand on the side :P). Any chance of putting people in, or since you're star warsy is that a bit impractical if we don't want a few anachronisms?

Can LEGO be damaged by heat/cold extremes?

Hang on, why would you need to freeze bricks to make an MOC?- 77 replies

Every time, it goes like this: I see a new thread, don't bother to check who made it, see an awesome MoC, notice the way they did the walls, and realise who it is.

I love these! But much as I hate to be 'that guy', 'extra credit' is an American thing. I've never come across is in a British School...

On the subject of a church, the nearest I've really noticed Lego breaking it's 'no religion' rule is that tower bridge had a cross on top. Personally, I think any winter sets are more likely to be like the previous ones - shops. Maybe even an inn.

Review: 7952 Kingdoms Advent Calendar
Bingo Little replied to The Cobra's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I was comparing it to a kingdoms era battlepack morningstar, actually. Might be the using up of old stock or the issues with Chinese plastic - still, as I'm starting to get Kingdom's pieces like the greathelm and knight torso's in non chinese plastic for the first time, I can't remotely spot a difference in anything else. -

Am I the only one who thinks the morningstars in today's door are closer to dark pearl than usual? -
On the one hand, without wishing to offend any fans here, they make music I absolutely cannot stand. On the other, check out the hat.

REVIEW: 7307 Flying Mummy Attack
Bingo Little replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I think I probably will get this set: I love the wings, and want to try them out on the angels in my nativity (One of whom currently has huge wings of fire made using Dastan's backpack) to see if they work any better. It's got some tommy guns in, which I've never had before, as I tend to steer clear of licensed themes, and lovely minifigures, some good parts in dark red as well. Oh, and it looks like a good chance to pick up a few more new castle windows in a non castle set. It's just a shame that the Obelisks aren't printed (I'll just end up using the unstickered pieces to build up walls) and that those RAF circles aren't stickered, or they'd make great medieval targets for archery. Those ones I probably will sticker, with multiple times and a steady hand... But, yeah, not as disappointed as other people seem to be. -

You're telling me. It's been one evening and I'm already getting twitchy fingers. -

I've just got my copy of this (thank heavens for England still having some in stock) and I'm curious: Am I going to be the only person to be using this as an actual advent calendar till December 25th... and after that as the treasure trove of new pieces everyone else is using it for? -
Sorry to update a deadish topic, but that's the design I finally went for. Thanks to everyone for all their help - three of those are now gracing my shepherd's pastures! Also, sorry for taking it on my webcam - I have no access to a decent camera just now. The full MoC will be photographed soon, though - and properly. One of the three kings is on an elephant. Just slight overkill there, I fancy.

Grouping Factions into a Super Faction of Castle
Bingo Little replied to Cpt. Dan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I've always grouped, for example, any factions with a dragon together, and assumed they're slight familial variations on the same crest, or something along those lines. I also like to use some of the newer armour with the old shields to create "remakes" of older soldiers - so Dragon Masters with the dark pearl dragon motif breast plate, or Black Falcons with morningstars... But generally I tend to group troops with different shields as being on the same side - after all, the troops of many different Lords could ride together to war with the King. This makes crownies good as bodyguards, too. I tend to use the bull shields, with some of the existant armour and some different armour, to look like saxon era troops or earlier Medieval ones. Probably it's those leather shields. -
TLG looking for good storytellers!
Bingo Little replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yeah, this sounds awesome, but really could be clearer. -
Replying to some previous posts, I very highly doubt it's sales - some of the castle sets, especially the impulses, always seem to be top selling on lego.com whenever I check. Not that I think it's being cancelled anyway.

yeah, I've got plenty of white bits, I wasn't really planning on spending any more on this model as I still have an advent calendar to buy and a very limited budget. And also, I do have a lego store nearby, so I could possibly get bricks in the pick and mix and save on shipping if I were to buy - though I accept that limits my options. Anyway, immaterial: the issue is making these sheep with what I have. Ah, if only this was next year when lego had released their windmill with the rumoured sheep... I'm sad enough that I can't use my beautiful pig in the MOC, what with the jews having... issues... with pork.

I'm a purist who feels guilty when I use a spear I accidentally snapped the head off as part of a staff, so custom sheep are out TBone's looks the best in terms of scale, but it's hard to work out from a single image like that exactly how to build it. I may try something like that and report back no the results - in the mean time, feel free to reply with any other suggestions
-
Anyway, I'm making a nativity, and so have some shepherds. The shepherds, naturally, are going to need some sheep by December, and not just the two sheepdogs they currently have. I've seen a few decent sheep designs on here, but it's not always been entirely clear how they were constructed. So any guides/text instructions/general ideas? I don't have very many white ones of these, but do have an awful lot of these, if it helps.

Ah, Camelot, Camelot, Camelot. It's only a model Now that's out the way, this looks awesome. I like the use of clips for battlements!

Although agreed on those windows, I think the walls look fine. As that's what the actual castle would look like, and with the thick walls and all you're going for realism, I don't think it's an issue. I love this, though, the interior and exterior, and I love the idea of having the baseplates open up with it. It's probably none too new, but I hadn't thought of it before and it makes everything rather easier for me in future. Some of the details I love on here are the corners of the roof, and the ivy climbing up the wall. Oh, and the windows, but everyone's already talked about that.

I'd love to see some more dwarves, because I was bloody stupid enough not to get any. The trolls, I can pass on. Skeletons with posable arms I'd probably end up using way more than I think. But I sure do love the current Kingdoms approach, which seems to be "Remember the old castle themes? This is the awesomer version."
