  1. Cheers everyone, for both the feedback on this and the Arctana. The color schemes of my ships are probably going to be defined by whatever colors I have the most of at the time. I used the majority of my orange and black on the Arctana, so couldn't carry the color scheme across and white was the color I had the most curved slopes in. The technic engine parts don't come in black anyway, otherwise I agree that this would have been really cool in orange and black.
  2. ARC-002 - The Arclight The Arclight was built in a few hours whilst taking a break from working on the ARC-001 (The Arctana). It is an agile, short range spaceship capable of atmospheric entry. Designed with speed in mind, engine capacity takes precedence over armour. In addition to the ship itself, I also created a scenic base in order to display it. The ARC-002 has a tendency to surprise the natives whenever it's taken on an excursion to one of those planets where they've yet to develop space flight. One of these days, someone's going to fit an ARC-002 with cloaking technology, or at least find a way to stop their pilots from flying so low. More photos can be found on Flickr: The ARC-002 on Flickr and The ARC-002 with Scenic Base on Flickr Hope you like it.
  3. ARC-001 - The Arctana The Arctana is my first attempt as an AFOL at a spaceship. It is designed for long range reconnaissance and radar picketing. I've been working on it intermittently over the last few months and now it's complete. It is much bulkier than originally intended due to the inclusion of the mechanism for automating the cockpit. This consists of a Power Functions motor and linear actuator. Unfortunately, there wasn't room for the battery box, so this remains external (hidden out of shot in both the photos and video), connected via the underside of the ship. It would have been nice to have incorporated the battery box into the internal structure, but the only way I could have done this would have been to have made the ship longer and this would have unbalanced and distorted the overall shape of the ship which I was quite happy with. I should have taken a few photos as I was constructing the internal framework as I incorporated a clutch design that I found via the Internet to link the motor and the linear actuator. This was necessary as otherwise the combined force of the motor and linear actuator literally tore the framework apart, primarily because the linear actuator didn't need to fully extend in order to fully open the cockpit. With the addition of the clutch, the moment either half of the cockpit meets any resistance, the stress on the structure is negated as the motor continues to spin without the linear actuator being affected. There are also Power Functions motors to operate the engine turbines and lights to illuminate the cockpit and sensor array. 4. Congratulations everyone, I really enjoyed entering this as well as seeing what everyone else came up with, so I look forward to the next one.
  5. Well, I'm off on holiday for the next two weeks, without access to the Internet and haven't posted enough on here to use the PM functionality yet ... So just thought I'd post this and let you know, so that if I do get into the top three and you try to contact me, you'll know why I don't respond. I know I can't vote anyway, but my favourites are: Tereglith - Love the way the floor boards have been made Redcross - Very nice idea, particularly like the mirror 74louloute - Really like the overall finish of this Noodles140 - Simple, but very effective Good luck to everyone who's entered. I look forward to seeing the results when I get back.
  6. Hi, yesterday I entered the Collectible LEGO Minifigs Series 1 Contest in the town forum and introduced myself there, but was directed here to introduce myself to everyone else. I've been lurking on here for a few months now after getting back into LEGO at the start of this year. At Christmas I bought the Mindstorms NXT set after seeing what it was capable of and that just sort of devolved backwards into building with normal LEGO again. I used to be obsessed with it when I was younger and am now clearly obsessed with it again after being inspired by the truly amazing MOCs that I've seen here and on other sites. I'm currently working on a spaceship, which started off small and is steadily growing in size. It's more of transport / cargo ship now than the sleek fighter it was intended to be ... Anyway, I got hold of some of the new minifigs and the Collectible LEGO Minifigs Series 1 Contest was the perfect opportunity for me to have go at creating a vignette and post something online. Admittedly, my original idea didn't involve a cinema and didn't involve the Zombie, but somehow that's what I ended up creating. You can see my creation on the entry thread or on Flickr I don't know when my spaceship will be finished, as I'm taking my time with it and trying to get used to using all of the AFOL concepts I've seen and read about like SNOTs and greebles, but when it is finished I'll take some photos and put them online.
  7. Hi everyone, Just posted my entry on the other thread, depicting a cinema with a 3D zombie film, so though I'd better introduce myself. 8. First post, but to keep things on topic, I'll introduce myself in the other thread ... "Zombies 3D" coming soon to a cinema near you. This is a display for the Zombie minifig. The Zombie minifig fits into the opening in the middle of the screen. The legs push horizontally into the two studs set back in the screen and then the figure is bent backwards. There are three more photos on Flickr which make this clearer: Zombies 3D on Flickr
