  1. Actually I'd rather class this as a tribute to Fantasy Era as you are updating that era's designs to a newer theme. Still, it's a nice MOD, you pulled it off well and I'm looking forward to your takes on the sets that are harder to transform into Kingdoms style sets. This build still shows one of the weaknesses of Kingdoms though: the worse colour scheme (at least on the Lion Knights' part).
  2. That's false. That visor appeared quite regularly in Fantasy Era sets and also once in the Kingdoms line. Edit: actually twice in the Kingdoms theme as the Advent Calendar also had one.
  3. Thanks everyone for all the advice and opinion. SirSeven7, thank you for testing this for me. It seemed a bit bulkier to me as well than the dwarf beards, nice to have it confirmed. And yeah, the viking helmet is quite fine for dwarfs, too.
  4. The fantastic thing about this ship is that unlike most MOCs this could indeed be made into an official Lego set (with less minifigs of course). Piece count seems quite modest and yet this is so much better than the official Lego Viking longboat.
  5. Thanks for the fast answer. What would be your advise for the removal of the two little grey tints running upwards on the two sides of the main body of the beard? Sand it also down or rather paint it over somehow? (I've never painted any Lego elements either. ) I'll definitely have to experiment on cheap or damaged parts first if I ever go for this. (An idea: could a bit of localized heat from a lighter or match be used to get the plastic soft and do away the sharp edges of the cuts?) Oh, and the beard looks quite bulky, so if someone could check whether it can be used together nicely with the dwarf helmets or maybe some other castle helmets that would be much appreciated.
  6. Wow, that's quite a messy solution. I doubt that the wall of Helm's Deep is two studs wide so we can expect a similarly awkward solution on the outer wall of the Hornburg too most probably.
  7. Hello! As I don't like clone armies in the Castle theme and am always looking for more diversity I was thinking about acquiring one or two of POTC Blackbeard's beard and cutting off those 4 grey tentacle like pieces to get another dwarf beard for myself. As it is a rather costly piece and I've never done any customizing before I'd like to ask for some opinions. First, has anyone else done this already? If yes a few pictures would be much appreciated. Second how do I go about removing those tentacles? Just cut them off with a sharp knife? Or will that leave stress marks or some ugly cuts? And do you think it's a reasonable idea to try this or just stupid? Here's the part in question:
  8. Well, if you take into account the scenes the sets are based on I don't know where they could have squeezed in more horses. Maybe one more at Helm's Deep, yes, but that's all, and I don't think that one would be really justified either. I'm sure we'll get more horses in later sets, and if the new horse mold entirely replaces the current one then you surely won't have problems with finding enough horses for your cavalry at an affordable price 1-2 years down the line.
  9. The way I see it those who hoard sets to resell them later for a profit are actually decreasing the future prices of discontinued sets. Just think about it, what if nobody hoarded Café Corners, Green Grocers or Star Wars sets? Prices would be even higher now for the latecomers. These traders are channelling future demand into the present and if enough people do this that might even have an effect on the number of sets produced before a set is discontinued. The more people buy sets to resell later the better for me as that increases the chance that I can pick up a set in the future for a reasonable price that I missed or couldn't afford when it was in production.
  10. Fantastic. This is a fascinating build. Very nice, clean and with an eye on historical accuracy. Vikings are my favourite when it comes to history and I already own 3 of 7018 Viking ship and I think 4 of 7016 Viking boat. I plan to modify them in the future to make them more historically accurate, just like you did. Even if it doesn't seem like a very complex build (but on the other hand very elegant) some WIP pictures or instructions would be much appreciated for sure.
  11. The sails configuration reminds me a bit of the . It would also look cool besides or battling against the Troll Warship from Fantasy Era which also reminds me of Warcraft II's intro a lot.All in all it's a great ship.
  12. A few days ago a used Caribbean Clipper came up on a local auction site I follow. It had instructions and even the box in good condition. It came together in one lot with 3 or 4 smaller Pirates sets. And the asking price was a mere 50-55 € altogether. Needless to say it was bought by a trader about 15 minutes after it was uploaded. I was 5 minutes late to the party. You can imagine how mad I was that I missed it. Even though I strongly prefer the old Imperial Flagship over this ship (as CC suffers from serious disproportion problems) I certainly would have taken it at that price.
  13. Yeah. While on the poster he looks okay as an actual minifig Gollum is quite terrible unfortunately. Also no new breastplate for either Uruk-hais or regular orcs.:s
  14. Wikipedia on Orcs - Read the Orcs, Goblins, and Uruks section. It seems that: a, rarely even Uruk-hai are called goblins b, goblin was the earlier word for these creatures which Tolkien decided to phase out and replace with the word orc. So the prominence of the goblin word in The Hobbit seems not much to do with the subtype of orcs involved there but more with that it's the older book. I guess Lego's interpretation will be heavily based upon how the Hobbit film shows the orcs (or goblins) that are featured in that book.
  15. Because public nudity is not politically correct.
  16. Are you playing dumb on purpose? I think it was pretty clear what I found odd. Namely that you are a LOTR fan who hasn't read LOTR yet. In my books that is really odd. It also leads to somewhat weird situations in the discussion when others are sharing their view based on the lore and you chime in with how the masks differed in the film. Of course technically you are right as the licence is based on the movies and not on the books. Btw in Tolkien's works the words goblin and orc are interchangeable as far as I know. They mean the same thing. And yeah, I'm a grumpy old LOTR fan who was quite annoyed by some of the bigger inaccuracies of the film. Worst offender being Haldir and his elven company in Helm's Deep. They had nothing to do there. It was a very cheap move by Peter Jackson.
  17. Wow. Sorry to say that but this is quite odd.
  18. What's not decent about 7037 Tower Raid? Apart from the big ugly wheels that siege tower is fantastic.
  19. Yeah, he is either employed or they are stealing his designs. Now I'd bet that he's got the job. I really hope that his Lego Mythology theme idea will come to life sometime.
  20. Well, took a look at the preliminary 'confidential' picture of the swamp creature set and he seems to wear the same headgear or at least a very-very similar one to Toth's design.
  21. Damn, and I thought that was the swamp creature we will get with this theme. I really-really hope Lego can come close to that brilliantly designed figure by Toth. Edit: Wait, we will get a swamp creature, right?
  22. I've always thought that goblins are just orcs living in the Misty Mountains. This goblins vs. orcs differentiation is quite confusing.
  23. Your lifelong favourite theme has lots of carts as well. The last iteration had one, too. I don't understand why you are harsher on a cart here than in Castle. And I called you a troll because of how you behaved in the Ninjago topics, not because of your imho unfair opinion of Gandalf's cart.
  24. Just ignore LegoBrickSteve. He's a troll. And compared to his behaviour in the Ninjago topics he is pretty tolerable here.
  25. Thinking about it what if they took the Atlantis theme in that direction? Like the divers find a hidden antique town somehow under the sea. I don't mind how, it could be through a time portal going back to the heydays of Atlantis. It would be a weird twist and is extremely unlikely but still one can dream.
