  1. Big W also had the Tie Defender (set# 8087) for $50.00.
  2. Great review, thanks Ras. I already knew that I wanted this set, but now after seeing the owls, the printed tiles, the turkey, the minifigs - the everything - I'm not sure how I'll be able to hold out untill October. This Harry Potter nerd is quivering in anticipation
  3. Me three! It's all these small details which made the older HP sets so enchanting. After seeing the Dobby and Quiditch sets, I was a bit scared they would be absent in this new wave. I am so looking forward to these sets even more now Also meant to say - that new printed owl looks pretty spiffy!
  4. Great review Starstreak. I like this model - indeed I like the whole midi concept in general (do the Nebulon-B next TLG!). One to get when it goes on special for sure. Re. the brightly coloured internal pieces - I read somewhere - sorry can't remember where exactly - that it is helps younger builders to follow the instructions (and also us oldies that have difficulty distinguishing between black and dark bluey gray!). Thanks again Starstreak
  5. Hey Legoman. I've been thinking about you Kiwi cousins (and watching on Skynews NZ too). Glad things are okay for you and that everythings up and running again so quickly. That Y-wing and X-wing in the fifth photo looks like they hit the surface of the death star, like in the battle of Yavin
  6. Thankyou for taking the time to make your review HJR. This is a beautiful set which captures the sleekness and fuctionality of this ship very well. I own quite a few of the UCS Starwars sets. Unfortunately due to the price ($450.00 Australian), 10212 will not be joining them - a shame as the shuttle is one of my favourite ships (due more to the old x-wing series PC games, rather than the movies). Thanks also for the photo of all three together. I own the two smaller models and wandered what the three would look like together - and now I know!
  7. This is what I do: - Prepare build area - usually my spare table in living room - Turn television to a music channel or if a Starwars set put on movie pertaining to set. - If at night, place brewski in reaching distance - Have quick perusal of instructions - Distract my two cats with food - although they still get into the box, sit in the middle of the build, play with round pieces etc - Sort set by colour and if a bigger set, subsort by pieces (plate/brick/other) - Build away with a song in my heart
  8. This is exactly what I was thinking too! Anna your MOC is beautiful. As AFOL's we know that Lego is a perfectly valid artistic medium (and not just a child's toy). This MOC - and the others you have done - reinforce this notion. Well Done
  9. I like all the thoughtful details you put into your MOC's I Scream Clone and this is no exception. For example the vampire standing safely in the shade and the sphinx sand sculpture the pharoah is creating. That wave is just first class
  10. Hee Hee, when I saw this thread title I thought it was reffering to 'Q' from Startrek and thought why does a Q need a ship? Anyway my stupidity aside, gosh I like this ship Blackicep8ntball, specifically: The cockpit design - in particular the two hoses covering the cockpit. I also like the silver metallic section behind the cockpit (when viewed on your top down Flickr photos). The innovative use of these pieces - Turntable 2 x 2 Plate, Base on each side of the ship The two large engines, when coupled with the two smaller side engines, hint at a ship which has a fast base speed, but is also quite agile and maneuverable The black and red colour scheme gives off a natural "I'm dangerous" vibe. The downwards angle of the cockpit, when combined with the angle of the side wings, gives it a sleek look, enhancing the above mentioned fast feel. Perhaps the only thing I would add (and apologies if it's there and I didn't notice) is to add a rear gun turret - to enhance it's weapon coverage. Good luck with the Madness contest - you deserve to do well
  11. Excellent review Jammiedodger714. Great photo's too - although the one of Dobby's head still in it's plastic bag was kind of disturbing! I voted only average for the set though. The minifigs are great, but to me it lacks the charm of the previous set. Glad to see the sock is a printed piece (I thought for sure it would be a sticker!). Once again thanks for the review
  12. Hey that's how I felt as well. It took me about three days to read the first couple of chapters. I think that if it wasn't written in short paragraphs (almost prose like at times), I might have put it down permenantly. Did you enjoy 'No Country for Old Men'? I thought I might add that too my "to read" list as well.
  13. Oky Wan Kenobi each and every one of these racers is just brillant. Each vehicle reflects it's driver, not just in clour scheme, but also style as well. Viewed together they have a 'supermario kart' - or perhaps even 'whacky racers' (the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon) vibe to them. I'd be flat out making one of these racers let alone the whole fleet, as you have done! If it came to a race, I'd put my money on Evil Emperor Zurg. He'd cheat like hell! Well done
  14. I strongly believe in paranormal stuff, especially ghosts and UFO's. When I was a boy we lived in an old mining cottage. For a couple of years there would be footsteps in my bedroom. On moonlight nights it was apparent that there wasn't an intruder or my parents/siblings checking om me. Nor were there any shadowy/dark figures. It wasn't just the floorboards shifting/settling at night either. The noise was quite deliberate - i.e the boards would squeak sequentially, rather than randomly. Also the family dog slept on my bed. If the footsteps approached my bed she would sometimes whimper, sometimes wag her tail. Used to scare the megablocks out of me. My parents didn't believe me! A nurse I work with was with a patient and when he died, she claims she saw his 'spirit' rise from his body. She said it resembled a golden shimmering light. This is a lady who I know very well (both in and out of work) and in my opinion is not prone to lying or other flights of fancy. Indeed, she would consider making up such a story as disrespectful to the person whom had just passed away. Out of the at least one hundred people she has seen die, she claims to only have witnessed this once. I can't offer any logical explanation for either event (and I have tried). I would love to see a UFO !
  15. I've just finished reading 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy. Depressing and dark (both in setting and tone), regardless I found it a good read. Some describe it as a story of parental love. I'm not a parent - so I couldn't really relate to that aspect of it. However I do work with patients with a terminal illness, so from that perspective, I found the book to be an interesting analogy as to why they continue to go on, despite both their time and hope being limited. 'The Road' gave me some mega nightmares, so now I'm reading some Star Trek Voyager books - 'Homecoming' and 'The Farther Shore' (both by Christie Golden). They are both set after Voyager has returned to the Alpha Quadrant. So far I am finding them light and fluffy, but very enjoyable. After that I thought I might revisit Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. I realised the other day that I haven't re-read any of them for approximately fifteen years. I love reading!
  16. I think they just messed up. Best I can see, it should say 4841. At any rate I'm still excited about the new sets! Not long to go now .
  17. Eddie the cybermat - classic . I was just thinking about them the other day (and their little neck sucking ways). Entertaining as always Doctor Sininster!
  18. Hello Oddibossity and welcome to Eurobricks. Welsh born and living in Australia - just like our current prime minister! If you haven't spotted it already, check out the Aussie sales thread, in the Buy, Sell, Trades and Finds forum. Never pay full price for a set again . Cheers!
  19. Svelte I think you may be correct about it being Ginny. I was just looking through the Australian 2010 catologue and they have a picture of all the minifigs. The only one not revealed on the teaser site is the Ginny in school uniform (from set 4841). Dang
  20. Forresto I hope the last minifig is Tonks (especially with pink hair). Also I agree with all the comments about the Bellatrix figure being well done (even though she is a thorough rotter!). When I get the set's, the first thing I'm going to do is have Molly Weasley cast a Avada Kedavra on Bellatrix. Payback's a female canine - and so is Bellatrix
  21. Part 1 Part Name: Dog/Wolf 'the Grim' Part Description: Allocated 48812 on Bricklink. I would like to see differant breeds or at least differant colours other than dark bluish gray or reddish brown. Part Usage: Could be used in petshop MOCS, various city MOCS, historic MOCS. Along with cats, dogs are the most commonly kept pets in western countries. Would like to see this reflected in Lego sets. Part 2 Part Name: Tile 2x3 Part Description: standard tile style (e.g Tile 1 x 6), but in 2x3 size. My preferred colours would be white and light blue gray - but obviously this would be extendable. Part Usage: Wide variety of SNOT applications. Eliminates necessity of multiple tiles to accomplish same effect. In my humble opinion would give a much sleeker visual appearance to MOCS. Thankyou for reading and considering
  22. Doctor Sinister, I am really enjoying your posts. You have combined clever vignettes with a comedy style that appeals to my warped sense of humour Loved that one of Millicent being sick (a true technicoloured yawn!).
  23. Flail your poster is "superific". You've captured that 1950's scifi look perfectly. Your selection of minifigs and their poses/positioning is just spot on - i.e the macho hero protecting the female crewmate (is her name a play on "Betty Blue" + the Lego color "bley"?) from the evil robot. Even the mini space base/alien city you have constructed in the background has a fifties feel to it. Well done!
  24. The action theme that I keep coming back to is most definately Adventurers, for at least the following reasons: - Global and exotic settings for the sets - this has given rise to a great array of minifigs, bricks and colors. - Well established and named characters. - I've always had a bit of an interest in Archeology, so really love set 5988 : The Temple of Anubis - Printed bricks! - Johnny Thunder is an Aussie To be honest I don't have much interest in the other action themes. Although I did buy Agents set 8970 : Robo Attack. Great mix of minifigs for city MOCS and gota love that Robot.
  25. This is a good review DHCP1121 with high quality photos. I've often seen these advent calenders at my local Toyworld and wondered what they were all about. To be honest though, there is nothing in this set that gives me a "wow" feeling. The sausages are kinda cute, (when is TLG going to make a radically differant colour/breed of dog?), but that's about it. Interesting to see that hoodie torso in yet another city set (Day 2 - Boy with Sword). To me it doesn't really look like a hoodie though. Rather the pockets look more like the blue surgical masks I wear at work, when seeing patients with an infectious disease. Also two Santa minfigs in one set seems a bit excessive. So overall a big to this set, but a big to your review.
