About Me
I've just come out of a dark age of about 3 years, so while I probably won't be very involved with Lego like I have in the past right away, or buy a whole bunch of new sets, I'm still interested in MOCing and new sets and things of that sort. When I was last on EB, I was (obviously) younger, but also silly and I imagine irritating, so apologies to all who had to put up with me during that time. ![]()
As far as Lego goes, my interest is primarily in historic themes like Pirates and Castle, but I also go for Town and some Star Wars-y stuff if it's appealingly designed. I really enjoy realistic MOCs, but fantastic/stylized creations can be very effectively done and I appreciate them very much when particularly good ones do appear. I suppose as far as I go with building, my primary interest at the moment is in 18th century sailing ships and forts and things of that sort, but I may get back into building things for Town as time goes on.
Though, I have many interests outside of Lego, as well, it should be said.
Architecture, particularly historic styles pre-dating the 1970s, but continuing to all well-designed buildings, is one of my greatest passions, and I'm planning on studying architecture formally when I attend university, as well as perhaps practising it when I am older. If any of my comments regarding a historic (or historic-esque) design here on EB go a bit in-depth or focus on certain things, that's probably why, aha. :) Getting more specific with regards to my interest in historic architecture, my favourite period for design would be ca. 1850-1920, because of the proliferation of so many different styles and modes. Specifically, I'm a huge fan of the Gothic revival and almost any building with Gothic/Mediaeval features. I'm also a big fan of the Queen Anne style, but mostly the earlier ones. Early Queen Anne was a blend of Classical/Georgian and Mediaeval styles, often very rugged and masculine with heavy stone and half-timber, but also fanciful with towers and balconies and the turned and carved designs Victorian architecture is famous for. Later Queen Anne (the stereotypical 'Victorian house') appeals less to me, as some examples just feel cheap and not so tasteful, and can only be made worse by painting them obnoxious and tasteless colorus.
I'm also a musician, my primary instrument being the theatre organ. Theatre organs were first introduced in motion picture theatres in the 1910s and 20s to accompany silent films, and as such have many voices, percussions (think, glockenspiels, xylophones, pianos, cymbals, bass & snare drums and more playable from the console, as well as pipes) and effects (such as Acme sirens, train whistles, surf effects, bird calls and all sorts of things) not found on classical organs that make them very versatile and fun as a solo instrument, especially for popular music, even modern stuff like Lady Gaga, if you'd want to play it. I'm still a student of it, but it's something I can see myself doing my entire life. I can also play other keyboard instruments (though, not as well as I do the organ, I imagine, since I'm used to playing bass with my feet). I am also considering taking up the ukulele, if only for the fun of it. ![]()
I'm also pretty knowledgeable about a lot of topics (I believe part of being a successful person is to educate oneself well and widely), and I know about a large range of topics, ranging from 18th century naval architecture to early 19th century fashion, to a multitude of general (and some specific) science and historical topics. I'm also a writer (I'm currently studying as a literature student) and take great joy in using language. I mostly write narrative or descriptive works, but I occasionally have a crack at poetry and lyrics. I also draw quite a bit (and, I think, farily well), and dabble in painting and sculpture occasionally, though I think less successfully. I also have an interest in photography, but then again, so does every teenager with a camera, lol. ![]()
(Note about the picture: I'm aware that I look like the typical emo/scene kid, but funnily enough, I'm as far from those stereotypes as it's basically possible to be, lol. Many people are quite shocked about it.)
Anyway, if you read this all, thanks for taking time to. :)
