schermvlieger Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Hi all, I only just now registered on these forums, after reading a lot of post, mostly reviews of technic sets. A couple of months ago I emerged from my dark ages and bought some technic boxes to expand my 30+ years old collection with some fresh pieces (without the bite marks). What I like most is building official technic models and then modify them to make them more playable or esthetically pleasing. The last model I build and modified was the 8453 front end loader. It's a sweet little machine but I thought it would benefit from conversion to pneumatics and of course the function to tilt the bucket needed to be activated from the rear as well. I've been refining this MOC for the last 2 weeks while on holiday, with a small box of spare parts to use, so I had to be creative to make it work and representable with limited resources; just the kind of building I enjoy the most. Yesterday I installed LDD and recreated the moc.The bucket and pneumatic parts I had to leave out and I could not hinge-alingn everything correctly so had to leave out one axle. Whomever feels like using the lxf to further refine and complete the model feel free to do so but please share a link to the amended lxf in this thread so others can enjoy it as well. Lakop Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Brilliant! More images please. That's a nice compact little model. Keep it up. H Quote
schermvlieger Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 The two lightgrey T-beams are where the pneumatic switches go, with the hoses facing outwards. Tuck them in real tight to avoid the tires from rubbing against them, The location of the missing axle; I whish it was easier to align all the parts and sometimes parts won't even be rotated at all even though in reality that should be no problem with the design and parts used. Also the missing pneumatic parts are a disappoinment but that can be worked around. Quote
schermvlieger Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 Thanks for the nice comments! I really like the original model with the worm gear driving a 24 tooth spur gear; much more fluent action than with the 8 tooth gear they use on smaller sets nowodays. The sets from this period are awesome I think; next moc might be based on the 8438; I have some spare parts if I take apart my unimod and 8065 micro dump-truck with steering. Quote
Rockbrick Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Shame you couldn't use the original balloon tyres, they must rub Quote
schermvlieger Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 (edited) The rubbing is not that bad RockBrick. [edit] you'll need to add a half-bush to each axle to widen the track width slightly though [/edit] I chose these tyres because I like the way it rides/steers much more with this particular model. Especially on very smooth surfices the difference quite noticable. Of course you are quite right that as far as the looks go the balloon tyres are more appropriate than these low profile racing tyres. Edited September 21, 2013 by schermvlieger Quote
