I'm always curious howmuch an average AFOL is spending on Lego.

More specificaly on pirate/imperial/islanders related Lego.

Maybe this is an indiscrete question :-$ , but you don't have to respond if you don't want.

Let me start, I'm having a monthly Lego budget of about 150 euro (193USD).

This I spend mostly on minifigs, ebay sets and parts for my MOCs.

!!!! I wouldn't be able to afford anything close to that. It's more a case of saving what I can in other areas (not going out to eat etc...) and when I get a decent amount built up waiting for an accompanying bargain...

God Bless,

Nathan

Lets put this into perspective:

150 Euros converts to about $236 in the local currency, so that's $59 per week.

I find it difficult to determine exactly how much because the majority of LEGO I purchase is from eBay and my approach is to prey upon "part auctions" that receive little or no bids. Then to keep postage costs down I get the seller to hold the LEGO for me (sometimes up to a year) before they send it, so I can accumulate a large lot.

But I'd say it would be about 150 Euro per month if averaged out over the entire year.

I think I can say that pirates don't "cost" me anything, since I sell Lego to pay for the things that I keep. *sweet* With most large lots that I get, I can sell the sets that I don't want for more than what I would pay for the set or sets that I keep. Just recently I got a lot that came with a mostly complete 6271 that's worth more than that set alone.

You chaps are hardcore with your budgeting!

Mind you I used to think I had a large collection until I saw what people here have listed but considering people are paying as much as 150 Euros a month it's little wonder. Where do you manage to keep it all? I'm too mobile in my work so my forces are held captive in storage but with collections like most of you, you must have huge set designs or cupboards.

Today I have a bit of a storage problem.

I had to store my Star Wars collection (star destroyer, rebel blockade runner and these space consuming sets) with my grandmother. I'm not really interested in them anymore anyway.

But next year I'm building my house and here is a big hobby-room foreseen for my Lego!

I had to convince my girlfriend that such a room was really necessary :-).

However, you're still paying money to acquire your pirates are you not? So unless you're obtaining them for free you're still spending money on Pirate LEGO regardless of whether you other sell LEGO.

This is like me claiming pirates don't cost me anything, since I design websites for the things that I keep. Our source of incomes are obviously different, but the principal is the same.

You are right Phes, but it's like what Obi-Wan says, "...from a certain point of view."

I do spend money (initially), but for some reason after I sell the stuff I don't want, I end up with more money than I had before buying the lot. :-) Is that accurate?

About the space issue: that's the main reason I've really slowed down with buying Lego. :-/ It might take several years for that to change...

PFFFFFFFFT... That line was just to cover a story inconsistency because George Mucus decided to change the Anakin/Vader back story between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. (No, that's not official, its just my theory)

That's fair enough, but the information we're after is how much you initially spend to acquire Pirate LEGO - never mind if make the money back later.

Sadly, nothing.

I have all pirate lego sets i want except to eldorado fortress but they are no form to buy it...i bought it in ebay a year ago and the guy who sold it don't accept COD...and then i didn't pay...i bought it again in bricklink but the new seller didn't give me his bank account to put the money....i sent an email to him but he didn't reply

Destiny wants i die without having that set....my life is surreal :P

How many Emails did you send this seller? Also did you try contacting him through eBay's messaging system as quite often Emails from unfamiliar addresses end up in the Junk Email folder. However, if you were to send it through eBay's messaging system it would be sent to his Email inbox (without being suspected as spam) and it would appear on his eBay summary page.

Whoa! X-O lol X-D

Anyway, my first pirate auction was probably for $30 with a CC that I sold for $70, not to mention a couple other small sets and loose parts that were included. *sweet*

That's too bad Captain Roger. I've noticed that the Eldorado Fortress tends to go for more in Europe than the US...

I don't think I'll ever find an SES in a cheap lot. :-/

You might want to send an eBay message like Phes said. Also, send an alert through BrickLink; that way the seller will easily know from the red banner appearing when logged on.

That's not really what I asked Captain Roger, I asked did you contact the eBay seller through eBay's internal messaging system. Do you know what I am referring to when I write eBay's internal messaging system?

How much do I spend on Pirate Lego? None. I don't buy pirate DVDs and I don't buy pirate lego. Only the real stuff!

What do you mean by the real stuff Captain Tau? You mean you actually buy living pirates in their ships? X-D

When I wasn't a starving musician, I would spend up to $70 a month on Pirate Lego, acquiring alot of ships and figures and pieces. I unfortunately can spend no more than $10 a month on Lego because of my tight budget. It is sad, but true.

Well when I am spending i do it in spurts, having no real income and living off student loans and a laughable hourly wage for my assistantship, I shouldn't be spending money on lego. But i do. When I get away with it (when the fiance isn't looking!) i probably average about $400 american a year on actual pirate stuff. Another 600 for multiple pick a brick buckets, exoforce, or random castle i might be collecting.

In the last year I've put in 21 bricklink orders averaging between 40-60 dollars. I usually wait for Zellers to have its "buy one get one at half price sale" and I'll blow a couple hundred there, plus they have a good liquidation sale on discontinued lego usually in september-october that usually sucks another couple hundred out of my budget. This is above and beyond what my boys get for lego. Our rule of thumb is anything starwars or batman belongs to my boys aged 5 and 7, anything miltary or piratey is mine. My poor pirates typically get wiped out pretty bad during scrimages, imagine cutlasses against lightsabres, muskets and rifles against blasters, v-wings and Slave One against frigates and such....let just say the sharks get fed regularly and have put on a fair amount of weight from binge eating.

This thread almost almost sounds like the start of a lego support-group.

"hello my name is Bo ... and I'm ... buying lego"

...Well, I guess we all need our "fix" once in awhile. X-D

Before i returned to pirate lego I collected starwars lego for a while. I have 16 tie-figthers. That's a good indication why I ran out of money. After that I took a little break, and i actually thought that my interest was subsiding. I actually began contemplating selling some of it. but, now I'm back, and I guess I've been spending some 900 dollars since june. My that's scary! I haven't tried to add it up in my head before now. Actually I believed it to be more than that.

It's probably still more than I should be spending though.
