Sir Dillon Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Hmm. It doesn't work anymore. I guess they took it down for some reason. You can now buy the AT-ST though...
sam89 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Available for pre-order in Europe: http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=K10176 It seems a bit expensive to me.
snefroe Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Available for pre-order in Europe:http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=K10176 It seems a bit expensive to me. funny..; the title of the image on the belgian site is "Classic castle".. maybe they're doing this set as a favour to all these classic castle fans?
natelite Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 i dont think there is a designer for classic castle anymore. that's why they only come up with legend sets (or modified legend set which is what 10176 is). whether you like it or not, the future (according to lego) is KK3. this is a big letdown to be honest. i feel apart from batman (because we all know who the superhero is) all other themes should be generic. no jayko, no santis. we should have a king, a champion, a group of knights, a group of maidens, some town folks, artisans, etc. same for space/mechs. captains, colonels, sargeants, liutenants, privates. not hikaru. not takeshi. not sensei.
xwingyoda Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Natelite, Why don't you want specific characters ? What bothered me on the first versions of the KK Knights were their horrendous colour !! Whats wrong in having a named villain (or several) with their legions of generic bad guys, a named king... I don't get it !! Since Lego is a kids' toy, its normal that kids can associate with their named heroes !! And we all know the heroes need armies which will be generic MFs !! I think that set doesn't look bad at all actually (judging from the old pics since I can't view the pics on SAH for some reasons hehe !!) Since that set is in the "Hard to find" section, if you want it you would be wise to order it asap ;-) Sir *yoda*
natelite Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 every kid can relate to a hero. but with lego creating customized characters for you, they are doing the thinking for the kid instead of giving the kid tools to think/create. instead of giving generic men, they give characters, so the minifigs already come with background. but if the chars come with an empty slate, the kid would most likely create his own story and create his favorite char from among the many mfs (eg, a specific head/face or some decorations, eg medals for being heroic, etc). jayko, kentis, alric, vladek all come with background. character sets are kinda like instant meal. you are limited in creativity, 3 mins and you're done. while generic men are like carrots and peas. you have free reign to make any meal you want.
gylman Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 In the description they say "this sets recreates the classic castle 6090..." BLECH Not.
natelite Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 you missed the part where they say "...with updated parts and colors." aka new KK swords in pearl gold and new bley castle wall! :-P
gylman Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 6090 was not a great castle anyway, but the "OK" tail end of a waning classic-castle line which peaked with 6085, 6086 and arguably the forestmen. The Black Falcon and Guarded Inn castle re-releases were worthwhile from my point of view, but I vainly have hoped for something original and bigger. Naive me. This release I think make it as clear as anything ever has that we will never see another really good castle from TLC again. And if the Euro price is any indicator, there is practically no chance it will sell well enough to justify any further attempts. EDIT: price just came up. $150 Canadian for 871 parts. Not great, but not devastatingly bad. Probably it will be easily available on eBay for $100 US, which is reasonable.
Shakar Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Funny, they call it "Classic Castle". :-D In the description they say "this sets recreates the classic castle 6090..."BLECH Not. Not a huge fan of 6090, but...I agree. It doesn't. I find funny the product description , they talk about 6090 like a legend, a masterpiece. Lego, there are some better sets if you really want to redesign some! Plus, this set looks nothing like its "first version". At least it contains 25 black and red flag poles and 25 yellow and blue flags. Sigh..can't you just re-release old sets...maybe in new colours? But 120 Euro for THAT? You're kidding, right? Shakar
gusmoore17 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Well, I disagree with those who say that 10176 is: -A lack castle, which is absolutely not true, it has more bricks that the entire KKII sets line!! -A renewed version of 6090. Believe me, after seeing the MOC 10176 I built and have next to me and compared it with the one I have on screen (brickset.com file of 6090), there's no comparison point, both castles have their own style and the 1995's is beautiful because of its medieval style and this year's is also beautiful because of its almost Reinassence style (except of course of the dwarf at the basement, hehe). I just want to finish my review soon! Meanwhile you can look by yourselves for the pics I took (by member, I am gusmoore1987 and maybe you find the folder if you enter 10176 at search bar, all in brickshelf.com) :-D
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 30, 2006 Governor Posted June 30, 2006 I see many of you are still displeased with this set which The LEGO Compay is promoting as "Classic Castle" - and I can understand where you're coming from. They're upgrading a Castle that was never considered overly great to begin with, but on the other hand its many times better than the recent Knights Kingdom crap that's been released in recent years. If this set is part of a progression towards what is considered "Classic Castle" then I'd say its a good step, and hope that The LEGO Company continues along this trajectory. Of course it doesn't really work like that, does it? Anyway, does it have much merit for the pieces included?
Hobbes Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 http://shop.lego.com/switch your country to Canada See the picture. Go OOOOH AHHHHHH OOOOH AHHHHHH eeeeeewwwww...
Khorne Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I think it looks pretty much bleh. I looks just like King Mathias' dump, there's one 'big' building in the center, surrounded by four prefab crappy towers *n* . Anybody took a look at the description? Would Lego actually believe what they write? A LEGO
oo7 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 This is now on US S@H for preorders, $100 seems too expensive for an 871 peice set. This is problably becuase it's a "returning LEGO
