Ickelpete Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I saw these Copies on Ebay they are inferior copies of Lego sets from china being imported through Ebay there are a lot of different sets available. Lego stopped a shipment of these comming into Finland several years ago see Double T reportHere Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 14, 2006 Governor Posted April 14, 2006 Good old Brick! The LEGO Company should re-release these sets and make everyone aware that Brick is inferior. Obviously there is a demand for this set if counterfiet copies keep appearing so this is something that take be taken advantage of. Obviously Brick sets are much cheaper than LEGO but the quality is shocking, so what will people choose? A cheap inferior version they can only obtain off eBay (unless in Hong Kong) plus US$20 postage or an authentic version they can obtain from a store, or S@H for the same about of postage. Quote

Its a shame Lego doesn't take advantage of this! Skull Island is a very good set(not as good as some of the earlier bases, but still very cool) and I would love to get my hands on some REAL lego copies of it. Good for the heads up Ickelpete. You don't know how many times I've seen the picture and clicked on this and realized it was the cheap brick crap. I hate how e-bay allows people to enter "LEGO-like" as descriptions but I guess thats one of the flaws about the ebay system. Its a good thing I can detect an inferior product from miles away now... Christian Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I have once seen these "Brick" sets in a toyshop in the Czech Republic. I didnt buy any of the sets that were identical to original Lego sets, but I did buy two of their military sets, which are actually quite good, especially the mf weapons. I can take pictures of the sets if anyone are interested. Quote
Mithrandir Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Just one more sign that Lego should bring back System Pirates *sweet* Quote
blueandwhite Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Well, the fact that the LEGO logo is conspicuously absent from the packaging, I'm not sure that "dodgy" is the right word here. Yes, "Brick" and "Shifty" (love that name) are knockoffs, but its not like they are fooling anybody. Still, I try to avoid knockoff products. Besides being of inferior quality, I have a difficult time supporting anything that blantantly rips off the effort of the original designers. Later. Quote
Mithrandir Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I'd definitely consider it dodgy. Lego may not be able to copyright the individual bricks themselves, but I know damn for sure that copyrights apply to lego set designs, and since this is a carbon copy, it's definitely illegal. It's also illegal to import into the US or any country that acknowledges their Copyright laws. (Not that anyone will actually enforce this though). Problem is, China doesn't give a crap about anyone elses' copyright laws. The problem with places like China is piracy (not THAT kind of piracy, mateys :-P); the factories that press your DVD's and CD's are the very same ones that print out thousands of pirated versions when the US execs aren't watching over it. In fact I'm willing to even bet that some of the MegaBloks factories may even be used to create these fake lego sets. Quote
madonlego Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I found these "brick" sets whilst on a school trip in russia ( ina shop in a place in the middle of nowhere pronounced to-yi-latti). I was gonna take some pics, but there was a security guard with a sub-machine satnding a few meters away. However i remember they had because set 6431 ( the little res-q jeep) and 6336 ( spaceport truck and helicopter). i thought they were proper lego until i read the box. Thy were both very cheap, but so is everything in Russia. Quote
