Hinckley Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Here's another custom fig I designed in Illustrator. This is more ambitious than some of my other projects because the motocross suit covers so many parts of the fig, some I've never dealt with before, like the hips and the upper part of the legs. I also wanted to do a solid black design on a clear decal to see how much detail I could create using just black. This design can be applied to any color torso: As usual, feedback is appreciated. I look forward to hear what people think of this one. Update: in tan... Quote
iamded Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 (edited) This design can be applied to any color torso: Even black? Really though, that's one sweet decal, sharp and snazzy. I wonder how well it would stand out on a dark blue suit. It actually would make a good Super-hero outfit. Great job! ~Peace Edited April 15, 2008 by iamded Quote
LuxorV Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Really nice work, indeed, HincKley . Are you going to add this to your list of customs on BL? Btw, would you belive I'm creating a new sigfig in motocross suit right now (only mine is fleshie), and I'm using the same hairs! Of course, I lack such a spendid custom suit... LuxorV Quote
CF Mitch Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Wow man, that's very cool You did a really nice job there, and red and black happen to be my favorite colors It actually would make a good Super-hero outfit. I sincerely agree Great job Hinckley Quote
Asuka Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Very cool and beautiful.... perhaps some pattern on the side of the legs could work well too.... Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Looks very nice, you have done a brilliant job and I agree with the idea of it looking like a super heroes costume Now it would look very good on green or blue in my opinion. Quote
Sir Dano Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Looking good Only thing I'd recommend would be some sort of design on the helmet. Quote
The Rancor Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 If only graphics could be made for the bike itself... Quote
zero1312 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 That's wicked cool. Now make the bike completely black. Quote
Hinckley Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 Thanks for the nice feedback everyone! Here is the same decal set on a tan figure: I'm experimenting with clear coat techniques, so this decal set actually chipped off of the torso and arms by the time I was done photographing. For some reason I can't wear off the legs at all...Note: brush on clear coat is and inconsistent technique. Are you going to add this to your list of customs on BL? In the neare future, yes. Thanks for asking. Btw, would you belive I'm creating a new sigfig in motocross suit right now (only mine is fleshie), and I'm using the same hairs! Of course, I lack such a spendid custom suit... That's great! I can't wait to see it. Your custom work is really good. I bet it will be awesome... Even black? I knew someone would say it, I just thought shadows would beat you to it. I do want to try it on dark blue as well, and dark grey. I think the subtlety would really be interesting... Looking good Only thing I'd recommend would be some sort of design on the helmet. Thanks, but I'm not quite ready for that yet. It is pretty difficult to apply decals to a rounded surface like that. At least I haven't started practicing yet... If only graphics could be made for the bike itself... Agreed. That would definitely be cool. Too bad I don't quite have the passion to create a template for that... Thanks again to everyone for the constructive criticism and feedback. Quote
JimBee Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 i actually like the tan one better, and i think its really cool that clear coat can be applied to any color! i need to get some of that... Quote
JoeMI6 Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Fantastic job. The tan is my fave. I also find it great that that Anakin hairpiece looks even better on certain minifig heads. Keep up the great work! Quote
Derek Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Very cool! I bet it'd look amazing on a lime green torso... Dp8 Quote
LuxorV Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 That's great! I can't wait to see it. Your custom work is really good. I bet it will be awesome... Unfortunately, I had some other buisness to attend this days, so the motocross suit has been posticipated. I'll work in it this week . The tan version, as it has already been said, is even cooler. It has that more realistic somewhat that makes it almost perfect. It only has one fault: it's too clean, to be a real motocross suit. It must be a shiny new, never used before, just out of the envelope suit . LuxorV Quote
WhiteFang Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I seriously wonder how you guys are able to create such wonderful custom torsos. I want to learn to applied to my figs too. Is it very hard to design and learn? Hinckley, your motocross mini-figure looks cool and stunning. Red is the word! It matches and complement very well with the bike. Tan is nice too, but i really prefer the red because of its striking color! Quote
