Captain Braunsfeld Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Hello, now, it is time to present a fortress on an island that is inspired by 6265 "Sabre Island": And I am very happy to do so: As you may recall, the Sabre Island set as a blue coat rowing towards the island. My island version is slightly bigger... There is a brave guard awaiting the boat: Aerial view (not historically correct ) On one side of the island we find a waterfall (through which you get into the inside of the rock) On the other side there is a cave (with a secret door that this unlucky guy obviously did not find) The different levels of fortress and rock are accessible .. and everything is modular: (The monkey will come in later) The white background makes it easier to spot a few things: I hope you like this island fortress - and I am looking forward to comments and questions! mrsniady1 Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I love it! (and of Course great rockwork). Quote
Brickadiergerard Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Now THAT's an island fortress. Wonderful. I love it. You have kept the feel of the golden age sets beautifully but have enhanced them to make something that any pirate fan young or old would surely delight in! I know the 3 young and old(er) ones in my family would do. Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Wow! Great fortress, indeed! I don't even know what to start with... Classic feel, yet realistic, it's got a lot a charm... the rockwork is very well done and those tiny transparent slopes give a nice looking wave effect... I love the idea of artillery in casemats, and that entrance portal fits the fort's style really well... and as always, great choice of colors. I like it a lot! I like the all of it a lot! Just one thing: Is the fort in distress, or why is that flag upside down? Oh, and yet another thing: Do you have more pics of the sublevel? Great work there, CB, was wondering what your next creation was gonna be Keep them MOCs coming! Best regards, KB Quote
Mestari Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Beautiful! Now, that's a proper UCS pirate set ;) Quote
Matthias Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) That is a classic fortress! And I love classic pirates style. I like your rockwork something I am fighting with. I would like to see something like that in the new wave. One think I have to say: "WRONG EPALETTE PIC 3", I think it must be a cased pirate. Edited October 29, 2014 by Matthias Quote
Sebeus I Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 As you may recall, the Sabre Island set as a blue coat rowing towards the island. My island version is slightly bigger... Slightly ? Very nice, that path to the entrance of the fortress is pretty sweet, a fortress Island is on my to-build list as well. Quote
Mr. Townsend Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 An adorable fortress Captain Braunsfeld! I love the classic colors and the red bricks in the white plaster wall. The rock cave seems to be a prime location for a lost monkey shrine. I can't wait to open my build table for a few land MoCs and a fortress is a must. This is an excellent inspiration. Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 That is a classic fortress! And I love classic pirates style. I like your rockwork something I am fighting with. I have been practising for a few years... and I am fine with the rock. But I also see other MOCers bringing in different approaches (SNOT-stuff, etc.) One think I have to say: "WRONG EPALETTE PIC 3", I think it must be a cased pirate. Oops. It seems you're right. I was lucky to buy the 6265 set in Belgium during a BrickMania event (well, it was the "brick equivalent" of the set). And I purchased another blue coat minifig as it was in good shape. I probably mixed it with the set. Meant no offense to all the blue coats out there! I love the classic colors and the red bricks in the white plaster wall. The rock cave seems to be a prime location for a lost monkey shrine. Well spotted. I always loved those red bricks shining through in the old pirate sets. Monkey shrine - you are hinting into the right direction. I am preparing some storyline/comic using the island and the ships I posted recently. Very nice! It looks very playable. 100% !!! So, this is how the secret door opens (a rock piece slides away): And this is how you get through the waterfall: I would probably try a different waterfall approach next time, but then it would not "open" anymore. Thanks for the kind comments! Quote
ArchitectureFan Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Very impressive island. The waves, the rock, the fortress - very fine. Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I am preparing some storyline/comic using the island and the ships I posted recently. Definitely looking forward to this. And of course, thanks for the additional pics, that opening waterfall is a gem! Brick on and on and on! Quote
Loves Houses Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Yeah - a pirate island to play with and dream from! What a great set. I love the part where the Spanish yellow naturally changes into grey cliffs. Very nicely designed. Quote
