Crowkillers.jpg

As mentioned by Technicjuan on this post, "Crowkillers" (Paul Boratko from Pennsylvania, USA) had a feature article in BrickJournal 11. Since the magazine is copyrighted, one could obtain a downloadable copy from the publisher TwoMorrows for USD $3.95d2badd8b84990a3b82a9e96e4ec43249.image.119x155.jpg . Crowkillers' 4-page interview featured many of the MOCs that are on his Brickshelf gallery. 26 PAGES of this July/August 2010 BrickJournall 11 issue contain articles and pictures about Lego cars (some of which are Technic)!

In Crowkillers' article, there is a brief mention about the interesting "Modular Project" that he displayed at Brickworld 2010. On his website http://www.crowkillers.com/id15.html . One can see that the various modules pin together to be able to "mix and match" the cabin, suspension, engine, transmission, etc. There are 29 pictures, of which a few are shown below. Paul said he let the kids at Brickworld play with his Modular Car, which I think is a great idea to encourage future Technic fans! By breaking down a complicated-looking car into individual components, young people will be better able to understand Lego Technic better and not be overwhelmed/intimidated by the entire car. *huh*

At first glance I thought that this was a copy of Industrial Designers Modular concept car, but upon closer inspection you can see that they are completely different.

I like the way part of the steering stays attached to the chassis and you just line up the gear rack accordingly with the steering gear. I also like the technique used for the studless transmission plate to line up properly with the driving rings, that was pretty slick. This model looks reletively simple, but yet also effective. This could be easily built from the supplied pictures. It would be neat to see crowkillers and Industrial Designer team up and build the ultimate supercar someday.

I also agree that crowkillers letting kids play with the model at Brickworld was a step in the right direction for future building, especially since most kids really don't care about technic. My boys enjoy building in most themes, but enjoy technic most of all. Which in my opinion is a good thing. :classic:

I wanted to add that, in the BrickJournal article, "Crowkillers" acknowledged that he was inspired by the work of "IndustrialDesigner" (Nathanael Kuipers, now a Lego Designer).

It definitely shows. He has a nice story about himself and Mr. Kuipers here What amazes me is that he gives so much credit to one person, and there are others out there who steal/use ideas and never give any acknoledgement to anyone.

I found pictures of crow's display at brickworld. That would have been awesome to see all of those cars in person.

I read the article in Brickjournal 11, it was kind of short. It's cool to find out the backstory of builders, even though I have met Paul before near Pittsburgh. From what I read, it sounds like there were some jerks at Brickworld. Some people just either don't want to give technic building a chance or are simply afraid of it. :hmpf_bad:

This means that the model is very well optimised. :cry_happy:

Very true. I built the chassis and transmission for this last month and everything works very smooth, especially the steering. I used this transmission design though. I have some parts ordered that I was short. I am still trying to decide on what kind of body to build for it. You can't really tell, but there are parts that flip up and down to mount the engine in the front and back.

I have planned also to create the "holy supercar". Mine look likes this at the moment :

Featured lot of things with a simple building (and new panel). I plan to create pro-instruction if the model satisfy myself.

I will open a topic if you like. :)

Looks very promising! I will certainly build a copy when it is ready, especially if you go to all the trouble of making instructions. Great work as usual Nico71.

Yes, I think a new topic for this MOC when it is ready is a great idea. Be sure to tell us how the features work!

nico71, who would you say were your 2 biggest inspirations for building this new model? Also, is your "Holy Supercar" modular? Or is everything fixed into place? Also how did you come up with "Holy"?

Edit: I see you have a new picture up of the underneath of your model. You should consider using the new steering arms for the model. they will make it easier for you to get the steering with the A.W.D. in the front square.

My inspirations are from NK, crow and jurgen, but I try to be the most original as possible with my own design (because I started in feb2010, before crow published his modular concept). About modular concept, yes : front axle, rear axle, drivetrain on the main frame and after the bodywork. It's not a concept of modular building for me, it's only the way I have already built. About the holy, I certainly make a mistake, I just want to say that I would like to build a supercar which satisfy me, about the features and the bodywork.

For the steering arm, I am agred but I am not crowkiller or NK I don't have new suspension arms, I build with my own old suspensions arm (with my little colection of 7sets) and it's ok for me. The new suspensions are the same, just less 0.5L not important for me because the car is scaled with a little amount of part.

I will open a topic. :)

Nico if you built this model early in the year, then Paul must be borrowing your transmission idea. :sceptic:

The transmission is quite different (between my supercar and his modular concept), I don't think he borrows anything. In any case, the gearbox is his ideas, it works really good and with a simple building but other stuff is mine. :)

I am assuming this modular project was something I had on display at Brickfair back in 2010... I had pictures posted on Brickshlef, but deleted them for better ones and never got them uploaded.. I have since lost them due to a computer crash... Someone actually replicated the chassis and modules and made a youtube video of it.. When they edited it, they got the gearing backwards in the text...
