BryanKinkel Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Check Brickset for some new, teeny tiny images of the Duplo Pirate line. 7880 Pirate Ship 7883 Treasure Hunt 7882 Shark Attack 7881 Ghost Ship -- Bryan Quote
Norro Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Thanks for postinng these... good(?) to see the giant shark finally made it into production... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 31, 2006 Governor Posted May 31, 2006 Ahhhhh they finally have images! Last time I checked Brickset for these sets it had placeholder pages for the sets but there were no images. I suppose we still don't have pictures of the actual sets but as they're not released that's to be expected. But at least we have some progress! Good work Mr Kinkel! Quote
Captain Ironhook Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Oh cool finally some new pirate sets. I think I mite get some of these for my younger brother so I can start him into pirates at young age and by the time he is old enough maybe the lego place will have new proper pirate sets he can buy. Just wish we had the larger images up there. You can't really tell much from these images. I do hope Duplo Pirates = System Pirates for the future. Although my wish for Duplo Thomas Trains = System Thomas Trains has yet to come true. -- Bryan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 31, 2006 Governor Posted May 31, 2006 If you'd like to see bigger pictures of the sets then check out the Duplo Pirates Thread Quote
phoinix Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 so pirates went from system to 4+ and now duplo!! whats next? Quatro?? *wacko* *wacko* this is going to the wrong direction... :-/ go the other way TLC!! not backwards!! when we asked you to bring back pirates we didnt mean take the age group back-wards!! >:-( this could sell well at these ages...but i never see me buying this!!! NO WAY!!! Quote
Dreamweb Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 It says the 7880 Pirate ship was released in 1998 :-) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 9, 2006 Governor Posted June 9, 2006 so pirates went from system to 4+ and now duplo!! whats next? Quatro?? *wacko* *wacko* this is going to the wrong direction... :-/ go the other way TLC!! not backwards!! when we asked you to bring back pirates we didnt mean take the age group back-wards!! >:-( This was my initial reaction as well! I recall many of the users who responded in SuvieD's survey requested the return of a SYSTEM Pirate LEGO theme yet this is what The LEGO Company produces? Maybe the survey never went anywhere within The LEGO Company and the pleas were never read... this could sell well at these ages...but i never see me buying this!!! NO WAY!!! We haven't seen any additions to the 4+ Pirate theme since its release so maybe that's an indication it wasn't highly popular. Maybe The LEGO Company is attempting to corner the niche market of Pirate toys for young children. But unlike the 4+ sets, none of the pieces from these Duplo will be useful whatsoever in our MOCs unless we make the entire MOC out of Duplo... Quote
Captain Ironhook Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Why is everyone so harsh upon these Duploo sets, they are a reminder that pirates are still in the minds of the Lego makers and one day their minds might see it fit to give us proper pirate Lego sets. Maybe if we rush out and purchase many of these for our children and grandchildren we can send the message to those at Lego to give us proper pirates. But I do not have children or grandchildren so I do this for my cousins. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 12, 2006 Governor Posted June 12, 2006 I'd assume if everyone rushed out and bought these Duplo sets then The LEGO Company would presume there was a demand for them and continue to produce only Duplo sets. Worst still SYSTEM Pirate LEGO sets wouldn't even be a consideration and I couldn't see how they would be as SYSTEM and Duplo and two completely different products, despite their function and the fact they're manufactured by the same company. Quote
Captain Ironhook Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 But if nobody is to buy these sets then how is the Lego factory to know that people want to buy more proper pirate legos? Quote
john cleese Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I wouldnt want to see new system pirates in 2007! If vikings have taught us anything, it's that legos current management and design team can and will juniorize anything. I would rather wait another five years for a decent pirate line to debut than get some <insert that tiresome argument> saturated ghost pirate theme. Apart from that, this just looks like lego's counter measures against the megablocks 'PYRATES' which was a clear retalliation by megablocks upon the release of pirates 4J. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 19, 2006 Governor Posted June 19, 2006 Unfortunately I tend to agree with you Mr Cleese. I have no faith whatsoever in The LEGO Company's ability to design new pirate sets that do the SYSTEM Pirate theme any justice. Just look at the latest ship released for Knights Kingdom - I honest must say its the most ridiculous looking sea vessel that the LEGO Company has ever produced. So if that's the best they can do in ships then I'd rather not see any new Pirate sets. Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted June 19, 2006 Governor Posted June 19, 2006 Mr Tole, can you explain why you think the Duplo Pirates better than the 4+ Pirates? Or were you being sarcastic because the Duplo sets are far more <insert that tiresome argument> than the 4+ sets. At least some parts from the 4+ sets can be salvaged for MOCing, wheras Duplo is a lost caused! Totally incompatible with SYSTEM whatsoever. Quote

I've come to think of it more as a fantasy vessle and i moved the wings both to forsail. It looks emensly better. As for duplo pirates, it's hard to justfy buying sets unless they float and then you can use them for cannon target practice. Quote

I'm very sceptical about any minor change improving this thing, I lose all faith in a set when a water craft has castle turret parts... As for duplo pirates, it's hard to justfy buying sets unless they float and then you can use them for cannon target practice. Would you really spend the money just so you had something to shoot your cannons at? The only reason would be buying these sets is to give to some really small child, but at the age I have in mind they wouldn't appreciate pirates anyway... Quote

I'm very sceptical about any minor change improving this thing, I lose all faith in a set when a water craft has castle turret parts... My main peeve was with the dragon wing sails, not the castles. personaly I like that aspect alot :-P It's like a small cog. I may end up replacing wings for real sails entirely Would you really spend the money just so you had something to shoot your cannons at? The only reason would be buying these sets is to give to some really small child, but at the age I have in mind they wouldn't appreciate pirates anyway... They would be too expensive too use as mere targets. I will honestly try to find some element to use in mocs, but not very optimistic. I was able to use some castle douplo to make thick walls, and the shield for some kind of wall decor. Quote
Captain Roger Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 What's that ghoulrealm? is a really strange ship...with a black kinights shield and bizarre sails...I thought it was a MOC based in the duplo pirates but is really different to the duplo pirates...what pieces did you use for build that MOC? It is 8821: Rogue Knight Battleship with the wings/sails moved up front, a mizen sail added, and slightly altered to look a little more like 6057: Sea Serpent. If your really interested I'll add details to the "here there be mocs" post. Quote
Captain Roger Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Thanks man...Now i see how was built the MOC Quote
