    [ENTRY] Forbidden Cove

Forbidden Cove. I remember buying this set when I was 9. Enchanted Island was out of the question. This was my consolation. I loved the rotating face. I loved that it had extra Islander hair (the Kahuka mask was awesome, but I already had him, I needed more soldiers). The happy sandy beaches, the imposing tropical tower. Good times. With so many others remaking Enchanted Island, and with so much time spent on Saber Island, I thought this would be a fun project. The thatched roof does work with real bricks, there can be a little tension on stray cactus pieces, but nothing worse than being stored in a plastic tub with 6000 other pieces. The frame holding it up is sturdy. Islander minifigures are sourced from the new Indiana Jones set. The triangle stonework is as well. I'm sure you'll notice several things. Yes, I took 90% of the Tiki mask from the new Indiana Jones set. Yes it is crooked. And no, I'm not sure what that red stuff is in the little pool. If you straighten the Tiki mask, a door to the cave opens up! Inside we have headless skeletons strewn around, some roots, and a golden treasure. With real bricks you'll want to grab x276 (Sun Disk from Amazon Ancient Ruins) or 73681 (Golden Idol from Indiana Jones), but since those models aren't in Stud.io I used a skull with metallic gold. If you turn the zebra-print drum on the back... The mouth opens! The gap is enough for a figure to squeeze through (2 studs wide by 4 bricks tall). There you have it. Flickr album is right here Rebrickable instructions will eventually be up. Got a few more contest builds first! Let me know what you think!
  2. Hey Checkout the update to my Lego Islanders themed anniversary set that is heavily inspired by the enchanted island statue which is now standing in a vibrant jungle environment. Please support this idea if you like it because I really need all the support to stay in the long game of getting 10k support and making this happen. SUPPORT NOW Islanders Spirit Beacon The islanders are a rare sight these days. It has been more than 20 years since the Islanders pointed spear and arrow at pirate and soldier alike. After many years of glorious combat the last of the proud warrior-zealots were defeated. Their strongest leader: shaman king Kahuka still walks the eternal planes. The Islanders enchanted island has been looted and pillaged, the tribes scattered to the winds. A beacon of hope remains deep in the jungle on one of the islands in the archipelago of many waters. A faceless warrior priestess of the old gods is gathering the scattered tribes. The whispers beneath her mask speaks of king Kahuka's return. Broken spears are mend, arrows sharpened, howling of restless spirits in the night. This "spirit beacon" is heavily inspired by the original statue design that came with the Lego Islanders enchanted island set 6278-1 in 1994. It's a scaled up version with many new details that is nice as a nostalgic reminder or as a new playset. The spirit beacon has multiple chunks that can be taken apart easily for different play configurations. The statue has a compartment in the back that can serve as a prison or inner sanctum. A trapdoor leads to a small dungeon compartment were captain cheekbones lurks A treasure chest is hidden behind the different detachable faces of the head. The remaining Islanders have adapted to use stealth instead of numbers, Therefore most of the warriors use the jungle mud and leaves to conceal themselves. Its probably problematic that they still use the same bright painted shields and faces :P The zealots and priestess paint themselves with the classic red paint of the Islanders They are worthy of invoking the spiritual essence that is embedded within the shrine of the beacon. Mini-figs as seen from left to right: Shaman king Kahuka's spirit, special translucent Islanders anniversary fig :) Faceless priestess, current leader, Zealot warrior; melee specialist, Scaled warrior; stealth specialist, Veteran warrior, defense specialist, Young blood warrior, endurance specialist, Man-hunter; path finding and ranged specialist, Captain cheekbones; annoyance specialist, Muddy Monkey, banana specialist. Kahuka Temple

[pid][/pid]234C You might have seen this temple before in my first entry of the TOR III (the dramatic sculpture incident). I heavely relied on a raised baseplate for the temple architecture, overall it's a pretty simple creation. Some people really don't like the use of raised baseplates, burps and lurps while I think they're perfect when you don't have a lot of parts to spare, like I do, I'm currently in some sort of crisis, an old/new Gray crisis, I have too few of either to build something of decent size and I hate to combine them . The stone kahuka head was simply copied from the official Islander sets. Commander RedHat and other redcoats will remember this place . The Dramatic Sculpture. Attack! (this picture didn't make it to the final comic, had to make a selection to qualify for the 10 panel limit.) More pictures in my Brickshelf Gallery.
