  1. My S@H order has shipped as well! And it looks like it really has sold out now as well. I wonder how many people won't get their order fulfilled. I guess we'll hear about it in this thread.
  2. On the US S@H site it's showing as available (30 days delivery) and not showing as Sold Out (which is interesting), which means they either have more stock allocated or the information on the site is wrong.
  3. Mine has changed to "In Progress" now as well, but if you check the set itself, it's showing as Sold Out on the UK S@H site, so I guess the only hope is to try a Lego store now.

    What did you buy today?

Yesterday took advantage of Argos's 3 for 2 offer on Toys and got the tree house (30101 x2), the family home (31012), Constitution train chase (79111), Monster Truck (42005) and GP Racer (42000). Today 41999 at the Lego store in Westfield London. I think I'm on Lego spend hold until October now.
  5. I was a bit late in getting my order in (backordered) at S@H so I called the Lego shop at Westfield (West London) and luckily they had a few left so put one aside for me. When I got there, there was only one left (out of a store allocation of 15). If I get my S@H order delivered too then I'll be delighted but I figured best not to take the chance if they run out and cancel my order.
  6. Slough actually, although shipping it to my office in London. Shipping is what it is, but $160 in total is probably not a million miles from what something like this would cost in the UK anyway.
  7. I ordered one today - looks FAR to interesting to ignore, and for $100 (+ $60 shipping), not such a high risk if it's not so good.

    Ps4 or XBox One?

I have a Wii U, and to be honest, it's a bit disappointing - nothing really elevates it beyond a Wii. I've had the PS3 since it came out, and while I'm not a particularly heavy gamer, the PS3 is still turned on the most.

    Ps4 or XBox One?

PS4 - mostly out of habit as I've had every PlayStation and not gone down the Xbox route.
  10. Sorry - I was thinking in the context of what the OP was wanting to build. The Unimog is fantastic for parts but is quite expensive.
  11. Not sure the 8110 will be that useful for parts; the Logging Truck I think has a significant number of the bits. Panel wise, the F1 Car (42000) might be a good help as it has a few black flat panels plus a lot of white curved panels (added to the bunch on the Logging Truck) would probably take you a long way.
  12. Make it with different colour panels? Anything is possible of course but cost could be a problem. I've just completed a second 8053 (in yellow) and almost a third (in Red) using 3x 42006 plus bricklink and Lego for the other bits. Lots of the 42006 left over, but total spend was in the region of £250. 8258 could be done using Yellow, Black or White panels instead - both seem to be readily available.
  13. I "won" an 8455 on eBay for £67 which is not too bad - worth waiting for an auction to come up as the Buy-it-now pricing can be quite ambitious. On the other hand, if you can't wait....

    Train parts Q&A

Set 404 (with this yellow 4.5v motor) was the very first set I got as a child, when I was 5 I think (approx. 1978/79)!
  15. It's a fairly expensive set so hard to say - flagship sets tend to be sold over RRP once discontinues, so don't wait too long as eBay prices might be on the high side. You might find it at a decent price at Amazon before it's stopped (maybe 10-15% less than RRP). MISB 8043 are close to £200 these days (£143 RRP) and that's less than a year after discontinued.
  16. For older sets, I tend to try and acquire two so there will be enough good (original bits) to make one decent one. Possibly not the cheapest way of doing it but it tends to work. And you can sell the bits from the left over bits on eBay if you want. I put together my shuttle (and a few other sets) this way and whilst I can't be bothered to sell the bits that are left over I'm very happy with the one (maybe 9 out of 10) that I'll keep in my collection. Maybe spent about 250 pounds getting the two. Bricklink is also a useful way of replacing parts although you can't be certain that they are of the right era.

London Trip soon - need advice please

Do not buy from WH Smith or Hamleys! WH Smith is expensive and tend to stock very little. Hamleys put on a huge margin on the sets by sometimes as much as 25%. John Lewis on Oxford street has a decent-ish amount of stock at normal prices, but the Lego Shop in Westfield will probably be your best bet, and you can use and collect VIP points too. LEGOLAND is fun and a worthy visit but you'll need the whole day to make the most of it. The food on-site varies between bad and terrible so worth taking your own. The big Lego shop at LEGOLAND will have almost everything as well (as do the Lego shops in Westfield).
  18. After discovering my Shuttle was missing some key pieces I decided to build the 8865. What a retro experience - it was interesting to see the introduction of some more "modern" pieces since 8860, and yet also how far things had come with 8880. A really pleasant build and nice to put together such an old set.
  19. Thank you :-) Mine arrived yesterday. The box is in really good shape and the pieces look really clean! Not sure whether to do this one first or the Space Shuttle I got a few days earlier (having since cleaned up all the pieces). Just finished putting together an almost immaculate 8880 which is a really cool build and looks pretty solid next to my 8448
  20. I just "won" one of these on eBay - looking forward to putting it together, hopefully this weekend. Once I get my 8880 I'll have almost all of the bigger technic cars!
  21. I just received a copy of this book (via Amazon) and I am highly impressed! As I move towards MOC'ing technic, I think it's a very high quality resource and a very good source of inspiration and ideas. I can already imagine how I will utilise some of the techniques in both modding existing sets as well as (hopefully) getting into making MOC's. Well done Sariel! I can only imagine what a labour of love it must have been!
  22. If you can find a "Supersonic" on eBay that might be a way of sourcing the motor(s) - set number was 8366 One on eBay at the mo (in the US) - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lego-8366-Supersonic-RC-Remote-Radio-Control-Car-NXT-TECHNIC-MINDSTORM-MOTORS-/350694894204?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item51a70b6a7c

    10233 Horizon Express

I've run mine with 2 9V motors (one at each end) rather than PF (at this time). Runs fairly fast, and will still derail at times on a normal semi-circle curve. I can live without the lights so far although I do have a set of PF lights coming from S@H. She's a beauty and looks good on a decent stretch.

    10233 Horizon Express

Just had an email from Lego S@H that my other two HE's are shipping. Looks like I might be able to put together a seriously long train...

    10233 Horizon Express

I'm not sure what you mean? The 9V motor is pretty much the same (physical) size as the PF motor so I can't see why it would cause issues?
