Someone remind why Imperial Guards aren't sold?
Sting replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
If what you both say is true, than how come Lego isn't releasing sets in the style of the 1980's-1996 style. Pride, perhaps, but I don't think any amount of pride will stop a company from trying to make money. If anything, Pride would mean that lego refuse to change to match what current children want. And they've 'sold out' in that manner so much in the past 8 years that we know that certainly isn't the case. I look through the set database at LUGNET and I get so obsessed with lego because the sets that came out back in that golden age, for Pirate, Castle, Town, Space, are so... amazing, that I can't grasp why lego stopped. The only reasons set go for so much is because of Lego's choice to discontinue sets with quality. I remember seeing a bunch Skulls Eye Schooner at Sears back in 1994ish for $119.00ish Canadian. I think we'd kill to buy a Skulls Eye Schooner MISB for that much now. If Lego just started making sets that good again, they wouldn't be as rare anymore and prices would drop from the ridiculous Ebay and Bricklink prices we see today. This works with all themes. -
"Nice helmet, loser" "Nice helmet, loser"

I like the size and colors(the gold at th eback is very nice) of the Carribean Clipper. I like the design and sleekness and sails of the Imperial Flagship I like the Spaniards and the main sail on the Armada Flagship I like the Carribean Clipper a little more due to its size and the 'golden' back part. I think this is what was missing from the Imperial Guards/Soldiers - a mighty and elegant Galleon. As many on this board agree, the Imperial Guards should have had a bigger flagship than the Pirates did.

I don't know. The problem is, Lego wants to be a huge succesful leading company like it once was. If Lego would sit back and say "Guys, we just aren't on the top of (most) kid's wishlists anymore". Lego wants to be a childrens toy, not an adult collecters item. If Lego released old Imperail Guard sets(which would be amazing), unless the children are very into pirates, most would ignore it. People like us would go freekin' crazy and buy 100's of these sets, but it would be more or less an adults thing. It would be like other 'collectors' items. Like model trains. Which have many devoted fans willing to pay, but all of these companies hardly make massive profits like Lego once did. I'm kind of all over the place there, but i hope u guys get my point. -
I would love to see your Spanish army. I just wish Lego would make the same quality and type of Pirate sets they used to. Obviously they won't be the exact same, but what they have now is just ridiculous. What do you guys think is the chance we could see Lego developing new and good Pirate sets within the next 5 years? The next 10? the next 20?

I believe that the Blue Soldiers were the French and the Red were the British. But either way, there certainly isn't enough of either so if you can mold both of them into one force, do it. I wish Lego would kickstart the Pirate Line again. Me and my Pirate-Loving Friend have talked about the possibilities. I think it would be incredible if Lego released some Quality pirate sets. They could either have the French/British/Spanish, although the British or French would make the most sense, as I believe the Spanish's power was sinking in the Carribean by the mid 1700's(I could be TOTALLY wrong... if I am please correct me :D ) If Lego doesn't want to use real world nations anymore, they could just make a generic "Imperial Power" group, which would just HAPPEN to look exactly like the British/French/Spanish. LoL I think that this time though, the IMPERIAL FLAGSHIPS should be bigger than the Pirate ships, as this would be the more realistic case. An ideal release for ships would be... 1 Very Large Imperial Galleon (Size of the Skulls Eye Schooner, Black Seas Barracuda, ect). It would be very 'Imperial' looking with the fancy decor, and come with a load of sea-ready sailors, grunts, officers and one admiral/captain and governor.) 1 Large Pirate Ship (Size of Carribean Clipper) A big ship which is loading with more cannons than it looks like it should have, ragtag decor... you know the deal 1 Small Pirate Ship (Renegade Runner size) 1 Merchant Ship (Renegade Runner size) Just a generic ship with sailors and neat cargo. This is just my ideal release for ships... not bases, ect This makes me depressed that I know Lego will never do this... I love how alot of new Lego Torso's look... so the new Pirates/Imperials would have awesome torso's either way... I know this wasn't really on topic... but I had to get it off...

Why do LEGO toys have value to you? They used to be totally unique in the way they did not cater to fads. The fact that Lego can be built as the instructions describe, or changed into ANYTHING the builder wants proves the total versatility. Lego was not a trend or fad. If a builder was interested in medieval times, they could build knights and castles, if they were interested in pirates, they built schooners and treasure hideouts, if they were interested in towns, they built cars and houses. Lego was for any age. It developed creativity and imagination more than almost anything. What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money? The build-ability. There is so many things you can build, whether it be the intended model, your own model, or adding to a massive collection. Lego is tough as nails and rarely gets damaged. And you USED to get lots of pieces for an incredibly good price. In what way has the LEGO brand let you down? Up until about 7 years ago, Lego had never let me down. There had been never been a year when models and themes were not inspired. Every set had quality. Lego had a few very standard themes that were very basic but this is what made people so creative - Lego didn't say "This Knight is named Sir Adam". It was "This is a Knight". Lego didn't say "This Castle is the Dark Lord Raven's Castle and he HAS to fight Sir Adam and his Super Lion Knights". It was "This is the Dark Knights castle". It was so general that everything had to be imagined by the user. The set designs for all themes were incredible. Looking at them inspired me. I'd go and look at boxes of all the lego and be mesmerized at how amazing the sets were. Lego didn't make NINJA TURTLE lego or hook on to trends. Lego has let me down in the way now that it has almost every 'big thing' as a theme. This wouldn't be so bad if the sets had quality, but none of them(except Star Wars) do. I miss the TOWN theme. I miss the CASTLE, PIRATE, SPACE, and WILD WEST Theme. I miss having to build a wall out of more than 1 piece. I miss so much about these general themes of lego with amazing quality. Bionacle and Lego should NEVER mix. Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved? Shopping Online... some new colors... Harry Potter theme offers alot of cool new pieces that can definently add flavor to Own Creations. Other than that, I am sorry, I cannot find much What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years? All of the old themes... with new sets. I understand Lego can and will not bring back all of the old Castle, Pirate, and Town sets, but they should bring back the themes, bring back old designers, bring back more pieces that make it so you actually have to build! Bring back the quality and inspiration. I don't want the Lego story to be told for me. None of this "Knights Kingdom THIS IS HOW TO PLAY! THIS GUY IS GOOD, NOT EVIL, YOU SEE! AND THE CASTLE HAS TO LOOK LIKE THIS!!!!" stuff. Lego never needed 'action' pieces that allowed things to blow up and other 'breaking' things. What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them? No electronic pieces needed. No stupid marketing and hanging on for dear life to Franchises(and paying royalties) who could care less about lego. (I.E SPIDER MAN). What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets? Heres a quote: "OH BOY, NEW LEGO POLICE HEADQUARTERS!!! HOW MANY PIECES: Oh... 7..." One piece walls? 1 Piece Roofs? 1 Piece Car Chasis?. This is NOT lego. The themes are not interesting at all, it is almost like buying certain video games now... it is so uninspired. Lego is trying to be super cool or something... it isn't working. What happened to the cool displays in the catalogs you'd recieve with new sets? All of the cars racing around with all the other new sets behind on a paper machee setting. Im not paying $100.00 for 100 pieces. Thats a rip off and lego KNOWS this. What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets? I am willing to pay higher prices for Second Hand parts/sets on Ebay because those sets had QUALITY. If Lego brought back QUALITY SETS AND THEMES, I would be dropping LOTS of money on Lego. If I could go abck to 1993 and go to a ToyStore, Lego's stock would have doubled.... I swear to god. What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company? Remain the best? I am sorry. But they are on the same level as Mega Blocks and other cheap, disposable trash right now. Sorry. Final Answer. What are your home country, first name and age? Canada, Chris, 18 Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading? Nothing that everyone else has probably already said. Bring back old sets and themes. Doing this survey has made me increasingly angry. I remember when I used to talk about lego and get increasingly excited.

If they made a dino similar to the one in set 4507 Prehistoric Creatures plus 6-wide Hummers (not 12) and a helicopter similar to the newest rescue one from City, that would be great. It would also be cool if this theme would be set in the city like in Jurassic Park II, so we could have cracked roadplates or destroyed buildings. Fine set it int he future, with 4-thread tanks, but make them realisitic. The tank is way too open. If carefully planned, this theme could have been a great hit. PS: The tank is not actually a tank anyway. There is no mention of Lego calling it a tank. I totally agree. That Helicopter is very cool... and I think if they made it kind of like 7044, it would be really cool. Probably bigger so it has a back area(One of the only cool things about the current chopper design). A WAY smaller hummer would be really cool. AN actualy ARMOURED VEHICLE for a tank would be very neat, but again, i doubt that will happen. I give up on 2005 for Lego. 2006 is only 10 monthes away.

Hmmm... so let me see... Good Old School Prop Plane for a GOOD Line(Adventurers... still SO much potential in that line...)... or this "MUTANT DINOSAUR!" junk. So they had 2 lines, the Adventurers Return to Dino Island or whatever(with the good prop plane we saw earlier) OR This Alpha Team CRAP with ACTION FIGURE DINOSAURS(These are about as Lego as a Playstation Game(not Lego Racers either!)). At least Alpha Team had some good pieces. This is just garbage. These are PRELIMINARIES? Well... lets see PRELIMINARY VIKINGS - Good Fortress, 3D beards, Better overall FINAL VIKINGS - Fortress and figures get crappier. So if the Preliminaries are better... i think the ACTUAL Dinosaur sets will have a piece count of no more than 5 pieces per set... and they will probably become Jack Stone Scale. SWEET! I heard someone say 2005 will be the YEAR OF LEGO. YEAH RIGHT. |-/

Ay. I would.

I love the internet :-D

I think these sets are a cool idea... unfortunately if they are <insert that tiresome argument> 4+, jack stone, bionacle, than it will suck. Alot. I really wanted to see that plane. Looked really cool and unique. But obviously Lego has to make stuff appeal to the VideoGame Generation. Lets hope these sets "accidently" have lots of good pieces, good designs, and no-juniorization. Is the US Toy Fair tommorow?

Thank you!!!! I believe it was previously confirmed that there were indeed new Adventurers sets coming out - so will everyone PLEASE stop hatin'. Whether or not it is this year i'm assuming is unknown... but we know they have been made and will be coming out sometime... hopefully :'( No we don't know that. The sets are rumoured to be canceled, so they might not come out at all. We are guessing that they will at some point because it would be dumb for Lego to cancel it. It also would be dumb to change a color after 22 years, but they did that so anything is fair game. But I thought of something. The release date for JP4 was the fall-winter of this year. The movie is having troubles, so maybe Lego wants to release the Lego Dino sets with a dino movie. If i recall they were rumoured to be cancelled, but than the famous Mister X confirmed them... and I agree with the color change issue(although i refuse to combat it and will start getting bley whenever)... I guess anything can happen now... Unless they were rumoured to be cancelled AGAIN, than they are still confirmed for release(sometime...) We do need Mister X.

HARRY POTTER ---> Boat is better than I expected, but I still hate those hulls. Oh well... it doesn't look too bad. I really love the little captains "Bridge" room up there. I hate those baby blue Crow's nests. The Graveyard set is bigger than I originally saw from the picture I saw. I really like it... hopefully that cart comes with it. And I love that "Blonde Hair" piece(i'm assuming its Lucious?). The dragon is, as I saw, terrible. It looks like 1 big piece with some extra horns and wings added on. It has alot of potential because the face is cool... but I don't like its stance. If you look closely I think it comes with a Fleur minfig.(If you've read the books you'll know). Merman set is okay... nothing spectacular but I do like the scenery. VIKINGS -----> I like the old fashioned iron look to the weapons. I wish we had beards.... and the Longboat still looks good. Lots of figs. The fortress is still okay, but not nearly as good as it once was. I hate what they've done with the little keep. When I get that set i'm taking off that catapult. I also don't like how so many sets need cages... and I like the gold helmets the Viking 'lords' have. Thats all I looked now... I must await Adventurers on the 20th I believe...correct?
-
I am afraid not... I looked pretty thouroughly and I could not find anything but the new Harry Potter sets... with the rumours of new Star Wars sets.... I wish I looked closer. I remember They had all the new sets we KNOW about... but nothing else. Like i said, there was no mention of Vikings throughout the entire catalogue. And my most anticipated theme, Adventurers, was no where to be found :(.
-
Yes, it was an offical store catalog. It was in the back and my (get this close connection) friend's brother's girlfriend works at the Explore Store and knew we were both fans of lego and said they have the catalog... so we checked it out. If I could take it I would have scanned the pics, but alas, I could not.
-
Hey, i'll do my best to answer the questions... I really wish now I looked longer... The Explore Store is a childrens store with all sorts of Educational toys. It is a chain as there is at least one other in the city(Winnipeg) I know of. They are not a huge supplier of Lego, but they do have some, and they may have more when the new "season" comes out. I recall the Durmstrang Ship having one of those JackStone Pirate Hulls... with some nice looking Tan "inverted half arches" (Im trying to describe them... kind of like if you cut a "C" into a top half and bottom half) along the bridge. The color scheme I believe was tan, dark grey, and (dark?) red. I only remember seeing 2 definitive figures... one looked like the headmaster(not sure how he is presented in the movie... but im assuming its him) and one is possible Viktor Krum... I do not remember seeing sails but that could be because I didn't pay enough attention. It was an official LEGO Catalog... the entire book was lego. It didn't have any mention of Vikings though, which surprised me... It had barcodes underneath each set, which is either for ordering or for price checking. The Dragon set had some cool walkways around it... kind of like "spectator" stands I believe. Dumbledore came with it I believe, as well as Harry Potter on his broomstick and the golden egg. There was also some rocks as scenery down in the pit with the golden egg. And the Graveyard has a baseplate with some tall, old looking fencing, and I believe a small "altar" kind of thing... I really wish I looked longer and more closely, but please remember these were SMALL pictures.
-
it came with a small graveyard... Harry Potter... Voldemort(i couldn't tell if his face looked very cool or not... it was too small) And I believe a Death Eater... i cant remember what the Deatheaters faces were too look like... I know there was a guy with a white/glow in the darkish color head and looked like a skeleton... this could either be Voldemort(small picture) or a death eater. That was the one I looked at the least though... sorry.
-
I HAVE JUST SEEN THE NEW HARRY POTTER SETS... IN A LEGO CATALOG AT THE LOCAL EXPLORE STORE... I really hate to say it, but the Durmstrang Ship(the set I was looking most forward too) uses the Jack Stone Pirate Hull... not the older hulls as I liked. The Hungarian Horntail is one of the ugliest, 1 piece, lego creatures ever put out. If I recall it correctly, it is Brown, has a very long but thick neck... It looks(this is a small picture! And it COULD be a prototype!). Very dissapointing. It is nothing like the Half-decent VIKING Dragons. The mermen set has one merman/woman... whos "legs" are actually a fin... a pretty cool looking face... but if I recall the set only has 1 merperson. It also has Viktor Krum as his half-shark self... Harry Potter... some small ruins... thats all i Remember. The Graveyard Showdown or whatever it is looks okay... But I couldn't see much as I was too dissapointed looking at the Ship and the Dragon... if you have any questions about what I saw(this is 4 small pictures! and it COULD be prototypes!) I can answer...
-
Did the damn Toy Fair even happen?... I thought surely pics would be up by now...
-
Yes.... PLEASE add a "?" after something like this so we do not think you HAVE PICTURES *devil*
-
... I don't understand why the new picture(both the one of the little black creature and now this one of the plane) only say "Adventure"... I really hope that by this they mean "Adventurers"... I want to see Johnny Thunder back in action...
-
How are you skeptical? You think it could be just a copy of the old Dino list or a screw up?
