That doesn't mean they didn't have a plan in case they did want to continue. I don't understand why we got so many new parts, especially from the villains, if they planned to only release these sets. They did all the legwork to make year 3 villains, made new parts and then gave us 2 set with them and some side builds in others.

I was thinking about how sad it is that year 2 probably 'killed' it and most people are saying this small part of what would be year 3 was the best so far. Obviously they probably took the best sets/ideas for this partial wave, but it did just happen to give us all the knights. I would have loved to see what else was planned, but I've realized that even if they had the other sets ready to go they couldn't release any information without bootleggers making and selling the sets.

I think people are putting too much blame on the theme and sets themselves without understanding that it wasn't a failure in terms of losing money. It was a failure in that it didn't live up to expectations, and ending it early might allow them to focus on something that makes more money. That being said a large part of the failing goes to the app and power scan gimmick. It was a cool concept that just never took off. It was poorly executed at times and too ambitious at others. The TV show never really caught on either. Jang made some excellent points about two other themes hogging the spotlight with movies. I would take it a step further and ask if two big bang themes (both targeted at about the same age range, primarily boys) is sustainable. I know AFOLs see the sets as "not castle" because we remember the grey ramparts, and rounded swords of yore. For kids this is the only castle theme they've ever known. It has "knights" in the title and the TV show fleshes out the castle lore. Yes the knights wear power armor, and fly around in spaceship sets, but to kids it's castle. To lego it was castle re-imagined to appeal to kids (boys specifically). Most of the actual castles these days are marketed towards girls. I don't know if that means they won't try a castle theme, but I'm afraid it will be mostly wagons and catapults if they do. If I could give lego advice I would point to the success of the brick built monsters in year 1 and the more fantastical villain figs in year 2. I think a good compromise theme would a non-historically accurate mash up of Greek/Roman mythology. It captures the essence of castle with the fantasy element while not specifically going down the orcs, dwarves, and elves route. I think vikings tried to do that but it was a little ahead of its time. If you compare some of the modern dragons, and the wolf from the Thorr set, lego has come a long way with brick build creatures.

I think I like almost every concept art villain theme more than the 3 we've gotten. Mushroom and water ones especially. I think everything looks better in concept, but a lot of the rock stuff didn't translate to brick form very well at all. There are a ton of new themes coming out which on one hand makes me doubtful that Nexo Knights will continue, but on the other hand it seems like you'd want to continue an existing thing before gambling on some of the stuff like Tron or Powerpuff girls. While those themes are existing IPs, I don't know how well they'll go over with kids. I know PPG has a new show, but it seems to be leaning on nostalgia from the old show, and Tron seems extremely niche. Those are also licensed, which means less money for lego and more importantly they aren't building their brand to sell lunchboxes. If NK does end, maybe we'll at least get more LotR/hobbit stuff after Harry Potter and Jurassic World. I don't know about kids but I think even a re-release of the old sets would be popular enough among AFOLs to out perform something like Tron.

This is probably the most compelling evidence that there will be more sets that I've seen. I think in 10 years people will be over the silly idea that nexo knights was the only thing stopping lego from putting out tons of classic castle and space sets designed for you personally. We'll probably remember all of the cool new parts that this line introduced. Castle fans will likely be delighted to see the knights' visor pieces used widely and in different colors, Macy's with the hair/plumage especially. Space fans will probably still be trying to 'fix' starwars sets with trans-orange nexo parts. The sets will still be cheaper than LotR/hobbit and will hopefully inspire future builders to create some of the concept art ideas that never made it into physical sets. Aaron and his lime green color scheme will not be missed.

There are 7 listed and we have 6 physical ones, and the 7th is given on the app. There are a bunch of powers that never came out in physical form from the tv show, website and other promotional material, some of which aren't released yet.

The Merlok app updated to include Merlok powers today. The staff of merlok power is awarded for 'free' and the other 6 can be scanned as normal. I'm hoping we still get a summer wave, but at this point it would come out after the TV series has ended, we already have all the year 3 versions of the knights, and 'all' of the merlok powers.

Tech Wizard Showdown doesn't have Clay's name in the set, although it does come with 'his' merlok power. I would have expected the set to come with the staff of merlok power instead of sword of merlok if Clay was getting another set. It does seem odd that he doesn't come with a year 3 armor though. I guess technically they could be doing two and then three, but it seems weird given the small size of this wave. We've gotten Macy and Axl in the second wave the first two years. My honest guess is that they didn't plan on doing a November release, or Clay's vehicle was 'delayed' for plot reasons. There is nothing really exclusive about cyberbyter Dennis. He didn't even get a different head, just different weapons and that stud to bar converter to give him a stud shooter for an arm. Even the named VanByter "Cezar" has nothing exclusive other than the brick build spider gunlegs. All of the VanByters, Mechabyter, Infectobyter, Fred, and Cezar have the same two faces. The only unique ones are Berserker and Pola. All the badguy minifigs use one legs and two torsos. All of the cyberbyters are identical. The whole thing feels very mailed in, possibly like it was rushed for early release. After Lord Krakenskull, I was really excited to see the theme return to form after a year of stone stompers.

I noticed Lance's hover jouster isn't on toys r us or lego shop website and I haven't seen it in stores. It's weird to me that Jang had one to review and speculated that it was a TRU exclusive in the US, but outside of his review and 'leaks' it's like this set doesn't exist.

Doesn't work with the helmet, but looks amazing with the armor.

Lego makes themes for kids. They might make a nostalgia set here or there for AFOLs. I seem to remember the castle ones being received poorly. If nexo knights didn't make kids into castle fans I don't really see them reverting to more grey bricks and less fantasy. Especially without a TV show to sell lunchboxes, costumes, foam rubber shields and weapons etc. Big bang themes seem to be lego's response to everything trending towards licensed, and with chima down and rumors/wishes for nexo knights to do the same that makes ninjago the exception, not the rule. If you're a castle fan, I think your best bet at seeing another real castle theme is hoping nexo knights can persist. Hopefully long enough for them to branch out into the location based sets we all want like ninjago finally got when they ran out of half-treads and motor cycles and based an episode around a lighthouse or a temple or whatever. Being a castle-y theme we might even see some new castle related parts.

For what this wave has, it is great. I am a bit worried at how small the wave is, with no small $10 knighton soldier vs unnamed baddie set, no ultimate/battle suit sets, and no "the big one" set. I still expect to see a Macy's and a Clay's vehicle (his name wasn't in tech wizard showdown, and we usually see the knights split 3 and 2 between waves). Others have pointed out that we still want to see Ruina, and Ava. With the revelation of infected Dennis, I would expect to see other named bots infected. We also have all the merlock powers except the stave. The size of this wave and the timing have me wondering if we might see 3 smaller waves this year, or if we're just getting less sets because the theme isn't doing great. I'm a little worried that we got all the knights, Aaron, and Jestro in this wave and in spite of everything we'd expect from a 2nd 2018 wave, this is would be a reasonable wave to end the theme on.
