[INSTRUCTIONS] The Empire over Jedha City

It's a great interpretation of the ISD, but I've added a few plates to help with keeping it in one piece. I'm just greebling the city which is a giant 'spot the difference' exercise! huge fun though. It's important when making the rock base to stick to the size of plates used to build up the level top as its the join lives between plates that allows you to orientate all the extras in the correct location.

[INSTRUCTIONS] The Empire over Jedha City

Has anyone built this yet? I've started a few weeks ago and I'm up to the city level and have to say its a fantastic MOC, with great layering and colour choices, giving a really interesting rocky base. Plus the rock wall has been very well conceived and executed. ISD is quite flimsy and I've added a couple of DBG plates to help with the panel deflection but it looks awesome. Really enjoyable so far and thoroughly recommended.
  3. The comparisons against a MOC maybe unfair, but certainly we can expect an evolution in building techniques can't we? It is after all £650. Not sure where the naivety is to be honest.
  4. Have to say I'm initially disappointed if I'm honest, there is a striking similarity to the original UCS ISD, an homage maybe, but surely this is a missed opportunity to show case newer building styles and techniques, which we have grown accustomed to through the superb MOCs out there, but also looking at the recent UCS Y-Wing, which was brilliant in the way it incorporated various greebling techniques etc. Seems like a retro step to me overall, with the engines and super structure lacking in detail, to the point of being a bit dull, for me. Still, the scale and angles seem very good, and the lack of MF's is of no consequence to me, as I've been collecting these UCS for the last decade or so, and they weren't originally included. Still, I can see it from those that want the reward for splashing out on a set of this cost to have some exclusivity, other than the set itself(?). Best to see it first hand before making up my mind.

    (MOC) - Cavegod's UCS Sandcrawler

    1. Difficult to judge really, but it took me about 5 months, including collating and setting up an inventory for all the parts. 2. Havent noticed any amendments, and only minor modding required of the top corner A frame connections. 3. Don’t think there any issues with swapping panels for bricks; indeed you may find this is the only way to complete it nowadays. As for the weight, the structure is pretty robust and should take the extra weight easily IMHO. 4. Might as well buy the instructions now I reckon, no point collecting the parts otherwise. And anyway they are a quality piece of work, I actually enjoyed just flicking through them. good luck, it’s extraordinary how good it looks when completed.

Trench Run MOC to Display Minifig Scale Ships

This looks really well thought out. Can not wait to see it evolve. Maybe avoid too much of a regular grid pattern, and add some randomness to it. Only a suggestion, and good luck.

Looks incredible, love the mods too. I ended up going down the SNOT route for the roof and cockpit section, maybe getting slightly carried away! Bricksmarlin; how did you attach the plates here, can’t see the half pin, yet on mine it looks very noticeable. Thanks for your help.

    (MOC) - Cavegod's UCS Sandcrawler

Finished. Most enjoyable out of all my sets; huge thanks to Cavegod for releasing it and thanks for the decent instructions too.

    (MOC) - Cavegod's UCS Sandcrawler

Some of those dark brown bricks are hard to find; I used dark brown inverted slopes 1X2 and just turned them sideways on, so you only see the back portion, i.e. the 1x1 side. as for the replacement for the motors I believe it would be quite a simple mod, but maybe worth buy one to see how it would have to replicate the holes for the technic pins.

Outstanding effort all round there. Taken it too another level...like the MB touches to the roof as well.

Looks great, can’t wait to see it finished. Are you using the extended interior module to support the cockpit?

    (MOC) - Cavegod's UCS Sandcrawler

Both main A frame side walls, completed, but had a stability issue with the left hand side one, requiring some re-enforcing plates, which was after several rebuilds due to it self destructing. I’m missing a few parts for the roof, which I’m going to eventually greeble more I think. But I have to say, it looks incredible. This was the one MOC. I really wanted to own, however it’s a massive project and has taken me months! But the satisfaction is worth overcoming the odd difficult bit.

Well done, it looks great from here. Now it’s finished, what do you think of the build?
