I'd be interested in hearing any thoughts on the quality of the instructions. I went for a balance of sharpness (300 dpi) and reasonable file size to get a file that looked as good and was as readable as possible. I also did a lot of experiments with the settings in LDView to get the image sizes, lighting, and edge line size to look as good as possible. Did it all work? There are a couple of disadvantages with purely visual instructions such as the fact that you can't tell the difference between light gray and pearl light gray. I highlighted the pearl parts in the BOM to make it easier. I also changed the color of the edge lines on rubber so you can tell the difference between rubber and black, but I guess it is pretty obvious that the only rubber parts are the tires.

The instructions look AWESOME! Great job. Everything you did worked great. I agree with above, very unique techniques in this build. I learned alot just reading them. The build stalled because I am waiting on parts, too.

Agree! I am waiting on parts to finish the deluxe supercar and I got the vampire instructions yesterday. I already had the chassis somewhat built from his older pictures posted, but I had made a few errors and corrected them. This new chassis really works fantastic. I just hope that I can collect all of the black parts for the body. I will probably have to replace the long black flex axles with another color as they are impossible to find.

You know, when looking at what some people are charging for instructions for small models on Ebay, $12 and $10 for these huge high quality ones are a steal. Some people are charging $25 for a just small 400 piece auto. I never realized how many people sell instructions and what they are charging and more so, the number of people that are paying.

I too got the Vampire GT Building Instructions (thanks, Paul!). They are very professional and easy to follow.

I'm surmising that the team of Paul Boratko (Crowkillers) and Eric Albrecht (Blakbird) probably don't charge a lot for the building instructions because they love the Lego Technic hobby and want to help others enjoy their creations. Blakbird figured out that there's no "profit" to be made in making the instructions at ~$0.25 an hour. The modest sum of money generated will help them buy more Lego, and may help keep their wives happy in tolerating this expensive hobby!

Lucky for me my wife is the set builder in the house... She already has a list of stuff she wants with the new mini modular buildings first on it followed by the new Log Truck...

I remember when we went on our first date back in 2004 and we stopped in a Toys R Us because she had to get some kind of gift for her friend's daughter's birthday, and we walked past the Lego section and she said "I can't believe how cool Legos got since I was little and played with them" to which I replied "You have no idea..."

haha, I can hear the relief in your reply from here :) I hope you didn't then go on to correct her use of the term "legos"

You are precisely right about that, David. I can't justify investing a lot more money in my LEGO habit, especially given how much I already have. I am "permitted" to keep acquiring LEGO as long as it is self-funding. This means that selling parts and instructions needs to raise enough money to allow me to buy the other parts and sets that I want. My main goal in doing the Vampire instructions is to be able to build one for myself! It is very gratifying that my efforts will allow many others to enjoy building the model as well.

A man's dream is to put these two things together. :classic:

I got an e-mail from Paul earlier that there was a red 2l axle missing on page 28 of both of the Vampire Instructions. I instinctively put it in without even realizing that it wasn't there in the instructions. He also said that revised instructions would be replaced sometime today and that the small error would be fixed.

I got my instructions yesterday, just sorting my parts and off we go!

Very nice instructions, compliments to Paul and Blakbird!

I will post a picture when I'm all done.

I was thinking of motorizing the doors, I think it would look cool. What do you think?

It would be cool, but I don't know where you would put the battery box. I fear it might ruin the look of this beautiful model if it were not carefully hidden.

I see the updated file is up  not that it was really a big deal or anything. I just can't wait for the parts that I need to finish this. :cry_sad: Has anyone completed it yet?

Yeah, I have it finished. The Supercar Deluxe 2, also. They are awesome to see finished, in front of you. These are truely great models. I can't imagine what Paul has in store for us this year...

I'll have pics up on BS tomorrow.

I completed mine last night. Stayed up all night building it. It is an incredible model, and I love the gearbox in particular. However, I built the black version and it looks pretty bad right now because some of the panels don't exist yet so I had to use red and tan. I am eagerly awaiting availability of the new parts.
