Criga88 Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Hi all, after 9 years of service it was about time I upgraded my fleet of 7236 based police cars to a more modern standard. My old mods of the set were based on the Holden Commodore so it was only natural that the new cars followed the trend. All in all, it took about 15 minutes to come up with the new body and 2 hours to try and connect the new front end, but once the base model was done the station wagon was a breeze. I'll use my 3x 7236's for the majority of parts in the new version and the stickers from the set will stay in place for the markings. This version will be getting the high profile lightbars and an overall white paint job to keep in line with high visibility policing around city streets. The two highway patrol cars will be scratch-built (the red ones almost done already) and are getting low profile LED lightbars and markings. I'm only planning on making one undercover unit for now, I'm just hoping LEGO releases the fender in green at some stage. I don't think the 1x6 inverted slopes are available in green either but I can build in a compromise there easily enough. I've uploaded the .LXF for the sedan and wagon to brickshelf for anyone who's interested, it's for the civi version but it's easy enough to modify them to suit any needs. Keep an eye out here as I may jump the fence temporarily to build a Ford Falcon at some point and let me know what you think. Quote
CityBuilder Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Nice police car, I like the wagon too. I still use my 7236 police cars... Quote
Criga88 Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Hi all, just a quick update on getting all of my rendered police vehicles built. There's been a couple of good sales on at local stores so I picked up a few sets for parts and some bricklink orders arrived so the past few days have been spent finishing my WIPs. First up are the updated versions of the 7236 cars, the one on the left is an attempt at a Ford Falcon and on the right is a Holden Commodore. They both need some stickers on the grilles to finish the look but I'll get to that when I buy a good printer. I have one other 7236 at about 90% complete but I ran out of the bonnet pieces so I may have to hit up the local sales again. The Highway Patrol branch of my police force currently consists of these three cars, the red Commodore and Mustang are used for pursuit while the green Commodore is for undercover work. The motorcycle branch has a slight mod of the standard police bikes released over the past couple of years to make them look more like the Aussie bikes. The inspiration for the dirtbike came a couple of weeks ago when I saw a bloke get pulled over outside my place by one, makes sense too considering the amount of criminals on dirtbikes in the recent city sets. The first two in this pic should be familiar, the Hilux paddy wagon and K9 unit, but the third is a new addition based on a Nissan Patrol. The Patrol can seat two minifigs and will be used with the dirtbike for off-road policing duties. There's also another paddy wagon in the works but I need a few more parts to complete it. Another familiar face, the LAPD AS350 helicopter, has now been joined by a NYPD inspired Bell 412. The 412 still requires a few parts in different colours for the rotor mast and tail, the cabin doors are left out because I need to source some blue window pieces but they're not really a priority. And last but not least is the newest branch of my police force, the "Public Order, Riot and Tactical Assault Squad" (PORTAS), with their Nissan Patrol to handle population control and anti-terrorist operations around the city. I don't have the parts to make a second one yet but it's on my to-do list, along with a Lenco Bearcat based vehicle that I've been toying with for a while now. Comments and criticisms are welcome, and if you want to make your own versions I've put the LDD files up on my brickshelf account. Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Very nice police fleet there 'Criga88'..........Brick On ! Quote
TWO2SEVEN Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Those all look great! I especially like the last one. Quote
Criga88 Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Thanks Lightningtiger and Two2seven. The Hilux is my fave of the lot, but the Patrol definitely comes in handy for displaying a lot of minifigs at once Quote
talex Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 They all look nice, but PORTAS... PORTAS looks awesome! :D Quote
Criga88 Posted April 26, 2015 Author Posted April 26, 2015 Hi all, this topics gone a bit dormant since there's been no real changes to my police force for a while but before I moved house I parted out my police helicopters to be replaced by Australian aircraft when I'd settled into the new place. After seeing the PolAir helicopters at work flying over Sydney Harbour most days and their presence yesterday for the ANZAC day services in the city I decided that this weekend was as good as any to start building up the air wing again so here's the first addition. The helicopter's based on the twin engined AS355 "PolAir 2" of the NSW Police Force and is built upon the AS350 from my Ideas project. The only changes with this version was to the engine nacelle and the equipment carried. It's fitted with a small camera under the nose, a searchlight below the tail and various antennae along the underside. When LEGO releases more bricks in dark blue I'll be able to change the tail colour to match the real helicopters livery but for now the bright blue still works. Well it's back to city building for a bit now, I need a place for all of my police vehicles to patrol Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Nice copter 'Criga88'.......Brick On ! Quote
