Khorne Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Excuse me for the bad pics, it has been raining so it's really hard to take any good, clear pics (since it's dark ;-) ). Anyway, on to the review (my first BTW :-$ )! 1| The Box The box is pretty standar issue. Nothing really special about it, except it says on the back that the model is divided in three parts for easy building (note to self: take pic of back :-P ). 2| Whatchu get, aka: the parts First of, there's the booklet. It's about the size of a regular Lego catalog. I've seen this pic before in a review, but it's even funnier when you really see it with your own eyes X-D . Then, you have that crappy DSS ( Quote
simonwillems Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Thank you, Khorne, for the nice review, the pics are a bit small but of good quality. This truck looks nice but I think it is way too big to fit any town (for my town it is anyway), I like the bunk/bed inside the cabin, something lego never did before for city/miniland sets. Good amount of lights as well. It'll be no buy for me, but I like the design. :-) Quote

I thought the truck was kinda big for acity too, but since I don't have a city, that's no problem for me X-D !BTW, if someone wants specific pics, just ask ;-) . Quote
Asuka Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 A very nice review, thanks. *y* I like the color scheme and the truck cabin, it Quote
Brick Miner Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 (edited) i really really like the look of this set from the boxart... love the front end of the truck... it looks so powerful !!! and i really like how lego advertises this on S@H, "the biggest truck in LEGO city !" love that. however, im a little concerned that you say the freight beds are made of a softer plastic !!! i don't like this at all. if fact, this could be the determining factor if i get this or not. how soft are they ??? you say you can bend them around *wacko* >:-( that sounds terrible. i was hoping for hard hard plastic. you may have saved me from a bad 35 dollar purchase. -------------------------------------------------- also, how many studs hold the front plate of the truck on ??? from your photos i only see two studs facing toward the front... i hope its more than that 8- Edited May 30, 2007 by Brick Miner Quote

simonwillems Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 EDIT: do you have any idea what L.C.B. stands for ??? Lego City B.... Don't know, Bulk or something? Quote
Brick Miner Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 (edited) ...i doubt it'll cost 35 dollars really...its already on US S@H.. and it seems the price is 35 USD ;-) unless shop (TRU ???) prices are lower than S@H... however that seems untrue, as my TRU had the recycle truck for 16.99 USD while on US S@H it's 14.99 USD... so if the pricing on the heavy hauler is going to work in a similar exchange, this is going to be at least 35 USD at TRU. - BrickMiner Edited May 30, 2007 by Brick Miner Quote

Well, they're softer than regular plates or bricks, but they're still pretty hard (at least they're for me). You do have to put some effort into twisting them around, so they're not really that soft. It's probably the same plastic like the dump truck freight bed like sne pointed it. also, how many studs hold the front plate of the truck on ??? from your photos i only see two studs facing toward the front... i hope its more than that 8- Quote
xenologer Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I know the pics are kinda small, maybe I'll change them to 800x600 later, but they look less sharp then. No point resizing pics if they don't change resolution. (ie, they get blurry because all the pixels get bigger, but you don't get any new details between them). If what you have is already straight out of the digi-cam then theres not much you can do. At my Lego Shop they wanted 35$USD. Sounds like the europe price got a break. It is indeed a nice set, however aside from the buckets I could probably build it already... So the real question is, how good are those buckets? I could possibly see them used for brick storage... I dunno, at the USD price its not so great, for 35$USD there are plenty of other nice offerings at the moment. Quote

Well, it does have four studs holding the front plate ;-) .that still isn't very much for a plate that size. i would expect 8-12 studs. The box is approximately 50x30 (cm, that is ;-) ).thanks ;-) I thought it stands for Lego Cargo Business, but that's just my guess :-P .hmmm... that sounds pretty good :-/ well, im heading to target today, hopefully they have what TRU didn't X-D thanks for the review and answers to my questions Khorne !!! - BrickMiner Quote

alex54 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Thanks for the review KhoRne! *y* I will buy this set even if the truck is too big for me, just to have all the new city sets. Maybe I will downsize it, but I don't know how a green freight bed will look on a smaller truck. And why not puting one in the cargo boat? just put a plate base to close the freight and you can put a lot of fishes on it... Quote
5150 Lego Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Great review Knorne! One question, how does the trailer hitch up to the truck? Does it hook up using the standard ball, and socket metheod, or somthing new? By the looks of it, it looks like a differnt style hitch than were use to seeing. Quote
Brick Miner Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 i was referring to this im not familar with that piece either... as in i've never felt/seen it. it looks pretty hard based on the images on brickshelf though.khorne... can you bend the green dump truck beds as much is shown in the 7900 bridge elements ??? if so, i think that is too soft a plastic for a truck bed |-/ - BrickMiner Quote
iamded Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Thanks for the review! This set looks pretty cool. Nice touch with the bed in the cabin. Although there wouldn't be much point in me getting it, as I practically don't have any City sets. :-/ Quote

Mr Hobbles Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 A nice set which I do want to get when it appears on S@H UK, but I have one problem with it. Why is half of the chassis bright red? I think it detracts from the overall appearance... Quote
Freddie Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I just got this set myself. The plastic used for the cargobeds are of a similar quality as used by toy maker Plasto. While it feels and sounds hollow (and the glue on the stickers react differently), it is very rigid and durable, and gives when under pressure as to not break. Just to put it to comparison; Plasto's toys are a big favourite in kindergartens (up here) simply because the toys are durable beyond comprehension. Originally meant for "swooshing" and "third-person" play, the larger toys usually have kids sitting on them, racing them down small slopes or something similar (I know I did when I was at that age); and they still last years, despite suffering the same rough treatment every day for years. That's the kind of plastic LEGO molded the beds with. Quote
Brick Miner Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 you use the word "rigid". that is reassuring. maybe i will get this set afterall. thanks - BM Quote
