Hrafn Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) I'm curious if anyone has found good uses for any of these parts. They're listed as being Technic parts in BrickLink, but most of them seem to me to be marginally useful at best. Are there other Technic parts that you find useless? SNIPE Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 You could cut the arm off so you just have two 12 tooth idler gears but other than that the parts are too specicalised. Quote
DrJB Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Many parts used in the Bionicle theme are very specialized. Thus, even though they have technic features, they are totally useless ... i.e., a real waste of plastic, storage space, and $$$ (or €£¥) Edited June 6, 2014 by DrJB Quote
Bzroom Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 These parts are exactly what caused my dark ages haha. useless. some of the sets that use these parts only have a few totally custom pieces. Quote
zux Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Well, I imagine these two could be used in some kind of scissor mechanisms. Quote
afol1969 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I have most of them shown in the first post, but until now I haven't found what to do or how to use them. Greetings Alex Quote
efferman Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 these are gearboxes for wormgears this is a gearbox for this both together can be used as a type of linear actuator this was used by 2legoornot2lego for one his gorgeous trailers as a sliding part Quote
Mutant Orc Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Hmm-it would be an interesting challenge for you to try and build something around one of these parts! Quote
Rockbrick Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) I don't think this piece is too useless - seen it used decorativley only though... usualy on engine covers, I used it on the rear of a motorbike once: (the front fork arms also a useless pieces?) Edited June 5, 2014 by Rockbrick Quote
emilstorm Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) usualy on engine covers, I used it on the rear of a motorbike once: (the front fork arms also a useless What you did with those parts is brilliant, nice motorcycle by the way :) Interesting topic, I recently bought a big bunch if Lego in ebay, and in it was a lot of these parts. I sorted them into things I might some day use for decoration and things that are totally useless for me. One of the pieces I thought I could use is the part rock brick has in the front fork, I imagined using it as a track for a snowmobile or the blade for a chainsaw. Edit: this glorious post has earned me the rank of Knigget, you may now call me Sir Storm :) Edited June 5, 2014 by emilstorm Quote
D3K Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) When I discovered bricklink, I was still in the early days of my new Lego Age, so whenever I saw something special in the Technic categories, I bought it, being sure I could use it for something useful! More often than not, that was not the case The only pieces I can remember using are the as a purely decorative piece, and the for the main part of the grenade machine gun on my Tactical G-wagon MOC. The other parts I have never used! However, one (two) special Bionicle part was used on the boom of the 8421! Another on the rear fork of the 8420 EDIT: Picture of the grenade launcher, for those interested: Edited June 5, 2014 by D3K Quote
jonwil Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I used the part with the chainsaw-type blades and ball end as harvesting blades on a Command & Conquer Tiberium Harvester MOC once... Quote
Hrafn Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 these are gearboxes for wormgears It's a pity they're so large. The one on the right would be great for using with a 40t gear, but the partial 24t gear attached to it is awkward. this is a gearbox for this both together can be used as a type of linear actuator Aha! That's very good to know, thank you. That could be a useful combination. this was used by 2legoornot2lego for one his gorgeous trailers as a sliding part Also good to know! I'd noticed the groove on the back of that part before but never realized it would interface with a rail. One mans useless is surely anothers usefull. Indeed! This part seems pretty hopeless though. Tommy Styrvoky Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) you guys forgot these these parts are really useless, but they might have a use as a offset for some type of mechanism Edited June 6, 2014 by Tommy Styrvoky Quote
Bzroom Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 It pains me to see LEGO lose its mind like this. Glad things are back to normal these days. Quote

Hrafn Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 you guys forgot these these parts are really useless, but they might have a use as a offset for some type of mechanism I saw them used once as landing gear for a Millennium Falcon-like spaceship. But yeah, a Technic use (other than the intended one of storing rubber bands, which they work decently for) is hard to imagine. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) To build a floor? Edited June 6, 2014 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
Kelkschiz Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Slightly off topic. I'd really like it if they did something similar to Cuusoo but for parts instead of sets. there are quite a few "parts" that don't exist but that i'd like to have! And also quite a few as this thread shows that i could do without :). Quote
Tommy Styrvoky Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 To build a floor? There would be gaps in it lengthwise. Quote
Rockbrick Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 (edited) I seem to have inherited a couple of these and their yellow toothed thin toothed pins: used in 30 sets no less - for spinner type funcionality - I have yet to find a use for them you would put this into it: in this configuration with a ripcord: Edited June 6, 2014 by Rockbrick Quote
jonwil Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Really the only difference is that all the specialized hard-to-use parts have shifted from Bionicle (counted as part of Technic) to Hero Factory (not counted as part of Technic) and in the process they became a little harder to use for other stuff :) Quote
