Commander Turtle Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) I like building 6-wide cars that seat 2 figs next to each other. But this car has a secret... Whoosh! The pullback motor is custom, to fit in my 6-wide plan. The gears let it freewheel once no more power is being put in. Two of my cheerleader squad show off the convertible mode. The nice thing about making your own motor is that it's upgradeable. I used the first elastic band I found; I'm sure with a stronger one this beast could go much faster! This one went down very well on Reddit. Incidentally I would love to see more Eurobricks-quality mocs there, if anyone wants to share their stuff there. Anyway, because of the support I made instructions available to download (you can enter "0" to get it free if you wish). More details. (Flickr). More 6-wide cars. lightningtiger Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Cool idea, but I will warn you those Lego rubber bands don't last......but great designing and Brick On Race On 'helloearthling' ! Quote
emilstorm Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Cool little thing:) I am guessing those doors rotate upwards ? Quote
Jody Meyer Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 nice and simple, once you get the basics, this can be applied to a lot of designs. great job Quote
rob-cubed Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 That gear system is ingenious... and the other secret, the hidden pistol... Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Really neat idea. I think you executed it well. I haven't considered doing this for any of my vehicles, but I haven't built too many either. Keep up the great work. Quote
Luke Styer Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Even putting aside the motor system, which is pretty neat, that's a gorgeous car you've put together. Quote
Commander Turtle Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 Thanks everyone for the kind words! Cool little thing:) I am guessing those doors rotate upwards ? That would have been a good idea! They're actually clipped on both sides, for structural support. The frame is quite bare to fit all the gears, but needs to be strong enough to handle the elastic - so every little bit of extra rigidity helps! Cool idea, but I will warn you those Lego rubber bands don't last......but great designing and Brick On Race On 'helloearthling' ! It's from a pack of 40 for 99p. If anything, it breaking would be incentive to get a stronger faster band :) Quote
okiba75 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Cool car! I like how you repurposed a pistol as the exhaust... and the use of the rubber band as a motor reminds me of the old pull-back cars I had as a child. You should make a few more 6-wide designs to show off... Quote
Commander Turtle Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 You should make a few more 6-wide designs to show off... I've got a few, I'll put another up :) Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 That is a very well done car! Keep up the good work! Quote
BricksMcgee Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Neat mechanism! Sometimes the simplest solution is the most satisfying :) Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Very neat for sure. I wasn't sure what I was going to see upon seeing the first pic. It is a pretty good looking roadster, I really like the angles of the nose It's from a pack of 40 for 99p. If anything, it breaking would be incentive to get a stronger faster band :) Then you'll need to try some wider tires for more traction to get that power down, lol Quote
