Kumbbl Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Hi all unimog lovers, i'm aware that there is an official 8110 thread but i admit i'm lost in finding the answer to my question about a steering fix in this hundreds of postings about the mog - a steering fix which is - easy to implement - a real improvement I know the complete redesigned front axle of ninjasco which performs outstanding but now i'm searching a cheaper solution for a friend... so: any recommendation how to (quite) easily fix this really crappy steering implementation of the 8110? which solution has performed well for you? Thank you in advance Quote
syy89 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 It looks like you can take out the four pins that were put there in Book 2, page 38, step 1 to limit the steering in the first place. Check out this video to see how to do it: Quote

Brittle Brick Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Hi, the steering is very stiff because in 4 places Lego used friction pins instead of friction-less ones. In the 7th post of http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=73311 you can see which parts need to be replaced. The replacement is easy, and the steering afterwards as well. Downside: when one of the front wheels hits an obstacle the steering might change. To make it even nicer you can repalce the HOG by a servo, see http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=57543&st=1325 and the following posts. Have fun, the Unimog is really great. Quote

Pat-Ard Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Hi Kumbbl, if you have questions regarding the servo mounting feel free to ask. Or PM me... Pat Quote
afol1969 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Hi Kumbl, I just finished the final Version of the multifunctional Unimog from Markus53, with additional modifications from my own, and I can say that the motorized steering mechanism is very well done, steering works smooth an easy even on carpets. Instructions will come soon, I just have to resolve a problem with the drive mechanism, where I have to ask Markus53. But if you want, I can send you a provisional release of the instructions. @ Pat-Ard: The servo motor mounting in the front axle does me interest too.... Greetings Alex Quote
Pat-Ard Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Hi Alex, in this thread http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=57543&st=1348 starting at post 1348 I showed some pictures how I managed to fit in the servo. If you need more pictures or help feel free to PM me... I'm interested in the provisional instructions, too... Pat Quote

For my son's Unimog (under construction) we made a partial "redpin" replacement; replaced pins nearer the front bumper and used original, but as loose as possible, red pins at inner side (for a nine year old kid, this change was great enough as he wanted to follow building instructions). Works fine enough with a original look. But for proper steering the LPEPower (nicjasno) solution is better, if you have all the parts. Edited May 3, 2014 by notareal Quote
