Alkhen Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) Looks like this is a thread for collectors but I noticed that nobody has commented on the durability in play of these figs... here is my experince. My 3 yr old has been playing with variety of the brands of bootleg figs for about 6 months now, I know they are recommended for older kids but he loves them so much I can't deny him :) as you can expect he is fairly rough with them. SY- good all round, printing is lasting well. Only issue are the arms which can get loose over time DeCool- OK but the faces seem to rub off very quickly especially if the have a mask. Also the hip design means the legs occasionally drop off Lele & bela- not as good general plastic quality more brittle but I think the printing has not rubbed off as much as decool. All in all the none are as hard wearing as lego (my 3yr old is obsessed by dismantling and rebuilding them constantly) but if you want them for a durable play toy SY is the best option in my opinion. Also Aliexpress has been a revelation! I still don't understand how they manage to keep the cost so low. Annoyingly the only bad experience has been on a recent order for a gold and green ninjago figure set that never turned up. They were intended to be for my sons birthday, and its sods law literally the only thing he had specifically requested. He took the let down like a boss!. I just have to wait till my dispute goes through to re order Edited February 25, 2015 by Alkhen
BigPoppaBrick Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I have these. Aside from the Cap figure arriving one-armed, they're pretty good actually! Above Doll-brand but slightly below SY/Decool quality. Unless you mean the designs. Yeah I meant the designs, although they do look quite interesting. Good to know the quality is decent too.
kid Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Has anyone figured out a good head to use with the SY Antman figure?
TheWoodenLeg Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I just had some fantastic 4 sets delivered to sell on ebay and noticed Thing has a belt now. Might have to keep this version instead :p
wickedlemon Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Slighly off-topic, but an interesting summary of Lego's status and profits. It shows that people buying clone brands isn't really denting their income and Lego is way overpriced http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-31621107
MinifigureHQ Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 This made me laugh, its an easy mistake to make, one in which we've made ourselves once before. It now lives as a permanent reminder to double check things before printing ;)

Might have to keep this version instead :p 'snip' I don't think I'd have even realised The Thing didn't have a printed belt previously, but now I have to get one. I sold a F4 set recently so I'm wishing I'd known to check it before hand I'd appreciate some opinions on this if possible, I'm collecting more X-Men bootlegs to make a display frame for a mate. My aim is to make them as comic-book as possible due to him being an obsessive collector. I've tried the Minifigure Series 12 Pizza Guy arms on Jean Grey to give the impression of her long yellow gloves - not sure if it works or not? I think the AFOL part of my brain is still interpreting it as short sleeves and bare arms even though she's got a flesh head...
teletraanconvoy Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I only get KO's for the awesome bigfigs they are making. Big Venom and Rhino are beautiful.

I think the AFOL part of my brain is still interpreting it as short sleeves and bare arms even though she's got a flesh head... That is absolutely fantastic. I have a few different bootleg versions of that figure I could do this with but I am so impressed with it that I'm seriously considering applying it to my authentic one. I'm extremely interested to see what else you come up with during this endeavor! Edited February 27, 2015 by Zhagas

MinifigureHQ Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 It does make me think of a shirt but I think if they're not bothered by it being counterfit then I doubt they'll think its a short sleeved top either, especially at first glance. So it works.
Praiter Yed Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Thanks for the positive feedback . Although you may want to edit your posts to remove the picture as quoting images in posts (at least on the same page as the original) is generally 'frowned upon' @Zhagas: I'm actually surprised at how well the the green matches this decool version, I've got the Sheng Yuan set on order so will probably try on that when it arrives. BUT you would seriously remove the arms from your official version!? - If i owned that it would be double zip-locked and never see the light of day. @MinifigureHQ: My mate is not a FOL so he might not have that mind-set of yellow being a Lego skin tone. He commented on my display of SW figs that he'd like something similar, so I think he'll appreciate this more as a piece of wall art rather than a collection of official minifigs.
Robianco Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 The green on the SY torso is very slightly different but not really noticeable... The print on the torso and legs is better though and it has the nice rounded shoulders too. I replaced the arms with genuine Lego on mine and then put the Decool head on and Lego red hair. A non Lego person probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway!
Praiter Yed Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 ^ That's pretty much what I was thinking of doing except I need to get some of that Lego red hair. I was in the Liverpool Lego store a few months back and they had loads of flesh Lois Lane heads in the BAM, I saw a woman putting some of that red hair on one and I couldn't find it anywhere! She would have had a shock if she'd turned around and seen the look I was giving her! I've been wondering how the red hair from Ariel would look on the comic/cartoon SY Black Widow.
Robianco Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I managed to put together 3 complete Lois Lane figures in there a few months ago on the BAM tower. I saw they had some more of the Lois heads in recently... Not looked in there for the last week or two to check if they have any more flesh figure parts.

I am quite fond of her, but if you can't enjoy it why have it? It's not like I'd be doing irreparable damage... arm swaps are quick and painless. I bricklinked the torso this morning so I'll let you know how it goes. In the meantime, I took a picture of all 3 so you can see (Decool on left, Lego in the middle, SY on the right and Lois, since someone else mentioned possibly using her hair.) Decool is much closer color wise... it's just a hair off of the Lego one. The SY version is a noticeably darker/duller shade so you might be able to tell the difference with the arms. That being said, SY did a really good print on the legs. My biggest gripe though is that their head is only single sided (and not the cool side!) Then again, the pronounced dot in the center of the Decool head has always driven me crazy too! ^ That's pretty much what I was thinking of doing except I need to get some of that Lego red hair. I've had my eye on that Ariel hair as well. Seems like it should be useful somewhere but I just can't put my finger on it. On another note - they had Lois parts in the bin? I was under the impression they weren't allowed to put licenced parts in there. I've certainly never seen any flesh colored ones at the Lego store here! Edited February 27, 2015 by Zhagas
Praiter Yed Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hah! I am quite fond of her, but if you can't enjoy it why have it? So true - but you read horrible stories about torsos cracking when you remove the arms - especially on the cheaper Chinese plastic figs. I have to keep 'my' minifigs away from prying little fingers - I steal my kids Lego figs - they get bootleg replacements On another note - they had Lois parts in the bin? I was under the impression they weren't allowed to put licenced parts in there. I've certainly never seen any flesh colored ones at the Lego store here! I've seen the Louis Lane heads in both Liverpool & Manchester stores I bought 10 for 25p each. I think Robianco did well to find the torsos too but then it is quite nondescript, not like finding an Ironman or something mixed in there... although I did also pick up a few AOTC Amidala torsos from a BAM, again 25p each. Thanks for the comparison pic
Robianco Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 The Liverpool store has had quite a few licensed parts in... Young Boba Fett torso, Ewok Village Leia torso and legs, Santa Jango torso, Luke Tatooine Legs, Lois Lane as mentioned, Celebration Luke torso as well as a few other items
Borex Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Any news on new bootlegs per chance? I'd like to see a new series by now (call me impatient).
Swifty118247 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Any news on new bootlegs per chance? I'd like to see a new series by now (call me impatient). I think we'll see something new. Not 100% sure but I think that's due to Chinese new year so there might not be some for a little bit.
pmptstc1 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Yeah, I'm going the bootleggers come out big after the new year celebrations.
Borex Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Oh yeah the chinese new year will slow things down i guess. Happy sheep year guys/girls!
