Governor Mister Phes Posted May 19, 2007 Governor Posted May 19, 2007 Click Thumbnails to view larger image Click here for comprehensive information and more pictures This is one of the earlier pirate mini-figures which makes use of the blue and white striped torso, combined with the bandana it provides the figure with a very seaman like characteristic. The mini-figure's head was one of the first to stray from the classic "smile and two eyes" design, and has also made apperances in the Castle and Western themes. The facial hair greatly assists in defining this mini-figure's identity as a pirate because without it he'd look too friendly to be a Pirate. Quote
Fordo Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Cool review, eventhough im not a big fan of the regular pirates mostly the Imperial's, but I have a few of those lying around. Quote
El Bucanero Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 One of the most important ingredients of a proper LEGO pirate, imperial or other crew has to be the striped pirate! Both blue and red. If you want a crew for your ship, you certainly need some of these... Good review BTW. Mr Tiber Quote
Berry Syedow Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I'm not the biggest fan of the guy's face, but who's to blame him? :-P This fig makes a decent crew mate. He's an expendable nobody. Sort of like those red shirted star trek extras who always got the short end in every episode. Nobody cares if he's taken out in the line of pirate duty. All of this is one more reason for the captain to watch his back in case he decides to start a mutiny. :-D Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 20, 2007 Author Governor Posted May 20, 2007 I'm not the biggest fan of his face either, but I think that's more to do with how overused and generic its become. These modern times with multitudes of different mini-figure faces has caused me to depreciate the older mini-figure faces! Quote
jamtf Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I think this guy's face is also used for the Sheriff in western sets and as one of the dark forestmen. That is how common it is. Of course, you can always exchange minifig heads to get more variety in the crew. All in all not a bad minifig, one of the ordinary buccaneers among the first pirate sets introduced in 1989. He is not my favourite and perfectly expendible but let's face it, no pirate ship is complete without this guy. After all, the Black Seas Barracuda and the Skulls Eye Schooner both have this crew member on board. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 20, 2007 Author Governor Posted May 20, 2007 Come to think of it, I've seen the head used in one of Castle Wolf Pack sets... Can't remember which one though... Quote
jamtf Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Come to think of it, I've seen the head used in one of Castle Wolf Pack sets... Can't remember which one though... 6038 Wolfpack Renegades is one of them. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 21, 2007 Author Governor Posted May 21, 2007 Ahhhhhhh this set! Thanks Jamtf! Now I'll wait for someone to inform me which Wester sets the head came in X-D Quote
Governor Broadside Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 That head comes in quite a few sets http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3626bpx13&in=S That head is one of my favorite generic pirate heads. The entire minifig is up there as one of my favorite generic pirates, too. Quote
Shadows Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Every military organization, official or renegade, needs your basic troop. This is him. From pirate ship to medieval battlefield to a galaxy far, far away, he has his place. I remember the day I bought the original B-Wing. Oh, the surprise and delight of meeting up with a friend from the past, still supporting the real stars and making his valuable contribution behind both the scenes and his anonymous moustache and stubble... Potentially, he could even make the transition to fleshie one day, should LEGO decide to use him again in a SW set. I'm not sure I approve of that possibility, but if the day comes I'm sure he'll serve well. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 21, 2007 Author Governor Posted May 21, 2007 So that mini-figure is from the original B-Wing? That head comes in quite a few setshttp://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3626bpx13&in=S That head is one of my favorite generic pirate heads. The entire minifig is up there as one of my favorite generic pirates, too. T'would seem this link answers my question! Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 23, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 23, 2007 This guy is the perfect crew member for any kind of ship (pirate, imperial armada, English, French, ...). So I'm very happy this fig exists and I can always use more of them. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 23, 2007 Author Governor Posted May 23, 2007 I notice there is a lot of discussion revolving around this head: Let us not forget this is just ONE mini-figure in the Pirate theme that uses the moustached face head and there will eventually be reviews for all mini-figures that make use of it. The aim is to build a complete database on Classic-Pirates.com for each mini-figure which appeared in the Pirate theme, and each entry will have its own discussion thread. Quote
