This is really the point of Ideas, isn't it? It's guerrilla brand marketing. The process is more about getting people to volunteer their time and effort to stir up social media buzz with no commitment (or licensing agreements, or corporate partnership negotiations, etc.) on the part of TLG until after the bell has already been rung, as they say. For them, it is a minimal investment in resources and accountability while reaping a high return on advertising, brand recognition and crowd sourced market research. In the end, the proposals that make it into sets are really more of a by-product, fulfilling the promise of reward just well enough to encourage continued participation. While it HAS produced some wonderful sets of a kind we might never had seen otherwise, the revenue generated by most of these one-off, small production run offerings for the TLG pales in comparison to the value of the social media buzz, news feed coverage and overall on-line brand marketing (i.e. a lot of "free" advertising). Even if a popular idea ultimately gets rejected, it still advances TLG's standing with non-AFOLs and non-TFOLs. Having "too many" proposals make it to the 10,000+ threshold is something I doubt TLG actually sees as a problem. It just means the system is working as designed and it gives them more to pick from when trying to decide which ideas might actually perform well on a store shelf, appealing to an actual _consumer_ as opposed to simply being popular with people who are happy to click their support for an IP they remember fondly from their youth while having no intention to actually buy the end product. Blondie-Wan Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 We’re now at 27 product ideas, a new record! Quote
Robert8 Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 I'm guessing 36 projects will make to the review phase (lol) Quote
Vilhelm22 Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 I haven’t ever submitted anything on IDEAS, but as far as I know you have a rule of 3000 pieces max. If I’m correct here, I find it ironic that 21323 has more than 600 more... Quote

Your submission can not be more than 3000 pieces and they are pretty strict with this rule - I had to send LDD file with my Home Alone project to prove it's exactly 3000 pieces before it passed the moderation. Vilhelm22 Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 29 now. Also, I just came across ‘Ratatouille: Reopen the Doors’ - it will reach 10K, I know, but will it be successful? The designer of the one in the last review has completely redone his idea to include the dining room too. Do you think that this will work? Quote
Robert8 Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Are they still doing the 10k club interviews? Quote

Modal Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 My god the updated Ratatouille set is absolutely unbelievable. Lego PLEASE make this one a reality. The build is treehouse-level quality Quote
Modal Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Anyone have a good guess you when we can see the Blacksmith set? I’m assuming if Sesame Street is November, either Blacksmith or Winnie the Pooh would be February? Quote
Exetrius Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 ^^ @ShaydDeGrai that's a very interesting perspective, thanks for sharing! Quote
Robert8 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 I wonder how they are going to handle this review Quote

The modulars will automatically be eliminated cause duh. Temple will be rejected cause of its possible similarities to Ninjago city Gardens. The pirate based projects will be rejected cause Barracuda Bayis still sold in stores. Tv shows/ Video game projects also have a good chance of being rejected quickly. No shade but Fall guys project will be rejected quickly as it reaches 10,000 Quote
jonwil Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Of the items that hit 10k, the most likely choices that I can see would be the Up House (its still a popular movie I believe, the model doesn't look too big, its instantly recognizable and I think its got broad appeal), the dogs (because of how different they are to what LEGO normally does and because it wouldn't need to be huge or expensive if they picked only a few of the dogs instead of all 6), maybe Night at the Museum if it isn't too similar to things like the dinosaur skeletons and if the movie is still popular enough and maybe Community if the licensing works and if its popular enough (Friends, Seinfeld and Big Bang Theory are still VERY popular shows which is why they made sense as LEGO sets but Community I dont know about) Then again, I would never in a million years have predicted that the Home Alone house would get approved (I thought it was far too big AND not popular enough these days) so my predictions may be wrong. Blondie-Wan Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 (edited) The Second 2020 LEGO Ideas Review batch has now closed, but not before setting a new record of 35 supported p̶r̶o̶j̶e̶c̶t̶s̶ product ideas. Remember those ancient times of several months ago, when we thought a batch of thirteen submissions was amazingly huge? Ah, we were so young... I’ve been making wrong predictions for years. I was so sure the Gingerbread House from a few years ago would be approved, and so sure The Big Bang Theory wouldn’t. And even all these years later, I’m astounded Seinfeld was approved as well. I’m not nearly as surprised by Home Alone, though, as I think it’s now considered sort of a perennial holiday favorite. Modal Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 The ones I want the most are Ratatouille and Windmill and Medieval Market. A lot of these licensed ones are mediocre sets using the franchise popularity to get them to 10k. Quote
adwind Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Seasons in Time and Up house appeal the most to me! I would by that calendar in a heart bit. Another project I would really love to be approved is Ratatouille Quote
koalayummies Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 All ideas approved! Considering how 2020 has gone and that we still haven't reached the asteroid, solar flare, extraterrestrial invasion or gamma ray burst months its not like we'll be around to see them anyway. Quote
