7101: Lightsaber Duel

From Episode: One

Year of release: 1999***

RRP: $6.00***

Pieces: 50***

The set represents the scene in episode one when Darth Maul attacks Qui Gon Jinn on Tatooine.

Two minifigs. The first is Qui Gon Jinn, probably one of the most oft-used minifig in SW

A good little set for getting Darth Maul on a cheap way.

But I guess it would be a bit nicer if TLC had included another red blade....

I bought this set second-hand on eBay last year. Its a very interesting set because it includes 2 main minifigs in a very small set, something that LEGO doesn't do anymore. Instead, they package all of the most sought after minifigs into large, expensive sets.

This set is a great way to get the tan torsos which are great for peasant MOCs and chrome lightsabre handles. If this set was released now I'd definitely pick up multiple copies of it. Unfortunately, it came out in the midst of my dark age and so I had to buy it second-hand,

I bought this set in 2001. It was half prized for 10 Guldens (+/- 4,50 euro).

Although the moisture vaporator (or something like that) was not really neccessairy for the scene this was a nice set. I had the idea that in 2000 there were more lego starwars set made than there was a market for. I bought a lot sets half prize.

First off, great review as always *y*

The set itself was a real mixed experience. As you said, Qui Gon was in practically every set, but I picked up a small pile of these sets when all of Episode I was so overstocked that they were being dumped for $2.

Lots of Tatooine citizens, castle and pirate civilians and spare jedi walking around in Qui Gon's clothes, I'll tell you that. One of his extra heads is currently making a decent custom Kyle Katarn.

The Darth Mauls became more generic SW citizens and jedi. Most useless alternate purpose head ever. He was actually in a third set as well though, the darkside figures set #3340.

The Maul speeder is adequate, but uninspired. I've converted all of my spares into other speeders. A generic small Tatooine speeder (with a Qui Gon bodied citizen). I mixed one with a spare Endor speederbike to make a long bounty hunter swoop that I'm quite fond of (I'll have to take pics sometime).

I ended up mixing and matching parts of moisture vaporators with spares from other duped sets to make taller, more movie authentic vaporators to spread around.

All in all, I'd give it a 7/10, mostly as an incredibly cheap parts and minifig pack.
