jimray Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Hi all, I'm new into Lego again. I want to make a huge custom castle with lots of mini-figs. I'm still in the process of buying sets and bricks. I recently bought Helms deep plus the extension to the wall. I'll build the set just for fun before I break it down for parts. Of course I know ultimately it's up to me, but I was just wondering what people think of Mixing the regular Lego Mini-Figs (yellow face knights) with the Lord of the Rings Mini-Figs (Realistic skin tone face). I guess the same question applies to Mixing the Uruk-hai with the Evil knights. I was thinking it wouldn't be too bad to have them in factions, like little platoons of guys, but I'm still not sure about it. I might be leaning to selling or trading the LOTR mini-figs away. Any thoughts? Quote
deskp Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 personally, I'm against it. if you jsut want to fill out the army, then put the differently colored ones "hidden" so they jstu make up mass without being featured. Quote
kevkipo Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 No don't do that... It wouldn't look good. it is a big difference and the Skin colored one's are a lot more detailed like Deskp said make them hidden And if you want to make a Helm's deep type castle... use the Flesh colored Look at some Flickr accounts for Details Quote
Pate-keetongu Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Using yellow faces will definitely be cheaper and there's more diversity if you are building a big sort of an army. There is a good yellow alternative to most of the fleshie LORT faces if you are not too picky (though there is of course some expections like Dwalin (tattoos) and Bombur (Flest print on beard/hair). jimray Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I won't mix them. I really just bought the LOTR sets for the bricks anyways. Quote
Seaber Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Do what you like really, there are no rules with Lego. Batman, Superman, etc worked well in the Lego Movie which was mostly yellow figs. What I've done is use flesh coloured heads for Harry Potter/LOTR/The Hobbit characters, and use all my yellow ones for Star Wars figs. Might be an idea for you if you collect a variety of themes. If you wanna go all yellow, you can easily get yellow heads (and loads of other pieces) through Lego stores or the Lego pick a brick website. If you want to go flesh coloured, eBay and bricklink are probably your best bet. Quote
gedren_y Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I regularly use flesh-toned figs with my yellows. The Lego universe can handle different colored figs. Just don't use torsos with neck printing that doesn't match the color head. Quote
Hyler Talliwell Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I would suggest not mixing, and agree with pig that yellow is cheaper. And honestly, there is far more variation in yellow, so you can usually find whatever you need. Go classic for the win! Quote
