WesternOutlaw Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Great review Yoda. Thanks for sharing. This looks like a great set and I'm really glad to see Lego designing these City sets. Reminds me of the 80s. Quote
xenologer Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 I'm looking at the blue freight truck and I'm having a really hard time figuring out how its made. The steering wheel at the front window really makes it hard to fit a snot brick in there to hold the front grille on. I'm really wondering how many studs hold it on, I'm thinking four at most, one in each corner and two at the middle. How close am I? Also, the grey tiles making up the ladder steps in front of each wheel, are those 6*1 tiles, or just 2*1s? -currently working on duplicating the truck in LDD Factory... Quote
Holodoc Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 How close am I? This is the way TLG did it with the truck of the 7898: So there are actually two studs that hold the front. Pretty stable, though. Trucks on! Quote
zeki Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Nice review!I love this set.It is great and big...i'll get it as soon as it comes to my shop. Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 11, 2007 Author Posted May 11, 2007 Looks good. Though I'm not sure about the boats yet. I would have preferred the old ones. Do you have any pictures of the ship pieces by themselves? What ship pieces ? Like the previous floating boats, TLC is now building 1 piece floating hulls and not like they used to in the 80's several pieces |-/ That is too bad !! Are the green overalls new to this set? I think so, I never saw these green overalls before ;-) *yoda* Quote
Wout Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Nice review Yoda! I like the set, but I don't buy it, maybe if they make a little set with the fisher, a lot of captured fish and a little hungry cat :-D Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 11, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 11, 2007 That's another great review Mr. Yoda! You seem to have a lot of time and money to buy all these sets ;-) . Anyway, I like the big amount of pictures you have in your reviews. As Napleon once said: "A picture is worth a thousand words". About the set, I really like this tower. It's very accessible for minifigs and looks great. The tower is certainly better than the one of the old cargo ship (4030). Quote
xenologer Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 This is the way TLG did it with the truck of the 7898:... ... So there are actually two studs that hold the front. Pretty stable, though. Trucks on! I was suspecting something like that Holodoc, especially since the 5stud snot bricks are also perfect for the sideview mirrors. Except, on the new truck if you look inside you can see a grille piece on one side, and the steering wheel on the other along the front of the compartment. And I figure the extra studs would get in the way of mounting those unless they did something wierd... Quote
Mr Hobbles Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 It's possible that instead of mounting the grille on a 1x2 brick they've mounted it on a 1x1 brick and one of those 1x1 brick pieces with two sides and no stud ontop (Dont know what they're called) Quote
xenologer Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 One of these Hobbes? That really doesn't seem like it would pass official design review though. Since it takes up an extra (and special) brick, and the grille piece ends up only held on by 1 stud, which in general they don't seem to do much of... I was thinking it may be held on by a 1*1 brick and a 1*1 technic beam with 1 hole, so the hole fits over the snot stud... but they have a rulebook that says they arent supposed to do that. So that doesn't seem too likely either.. maybe xwingyoda will feel like simply showing us... a picture of the truck with the front plates removed would make everything clear... Quote
xenologer Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I didn't ask ;-) eheh silly me Your names are so... similar looking I got a little mixed up *wacko* Quote
Piranha Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Great review *yoda* This is indeed a nice set I must add this to my list of Lego to buy For some reason it just keeps getting longer and longer :-D The fisherman is a great addition but I would have liked something for him to catch maybe a fish or a shark, manta ray or a crab This Shark is perfect X-D >:-) City fisherman overalls The green overalls only appeared above Are you going to review the gas station? Piranha Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 13, 2007 Governor Posted May 13, 2007 I realise this isn't a Star Wars set but it might be worth front-paging this review if you're not already intending to do so. It is a good review and it would delight Town fans. *y* Quote
Norro Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Thanks for the review... You're even tempting ME... God Bless, Nathan Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 I realise this isn't a Star Wars set but it might be worth front-paging this review if you're not already intending to do so. It is a good review and it would delight Town fans. *y* Feel free ;-) Thanks for the review... You're even tempting ME... OMG X-D Norro tempted by a city set :-D How intreguing hehe !! How much is this set? Its 80 Quote
simonwillems Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Lego certainly put a lot of effort in this set, creating all those little details. I like the engine in the ship (although it looks a litttle small for powering such a huuuuge ship...) and the details together with Steven Spielberg on the bridge. It's no buy for me however, the ship is much to big and too much out of one piece. I am still searching, eventually I will succeed, for the 6542 harbour set (I already own the sets's instructions and original stickersheet) because I like that one more than this new set. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 16, 2007 Governor Posted May 16, 2007 Feel free ;-) I've frontpaged the Harbour sub-theme set reviews. Will do the other reviews spaced out over the new few days. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 The new harbor set is excellent! TLG made a very good job by releasing this set. It combines old characteristics of lego harbor sets with new ones. That is great! Only the containers and the container van could have been a bit smaller. It would be great if Lego would release some other harbor sets in the future. Quote
Holodoc Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Wooohaaa! Yoda *yoda* , take a look at this: *click the pic* You Quote
MatthewUSA Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Thank you so very much *yoda* for that review. Your reviews are excellent *y* . They really show the great details that TLC has created. I do have 2 questions though. 1) Does the containers have doors like the old containers did? 2) Since the ship floats like set 4030, does the new ship come with weights too? I am definitly thinking about this set from your review. Your reviews make it so hard to resist certain sets, especially this one. Thanks again for the info. Quote
tsunamik Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 ;-) FYI - For those in Southern California, I picked up the following at LegoLand CA shops: Mars Mission (Missing 7692 Dropship) 3 new Exo-Force sets, All Castle, 3 City Sets (Port, Garbage Truck, Dump Truck) 2 New Racers sets (Bullet Run, Bridge Chase) The New Star Wars was slated, but they did not receive the shipment as of May 13th. Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Woah, Awesome set! I really want it, but I also want some other things... |-/ The best part is the boat. Thats cool! I also really like the port with the crane. The speed boat rocks. And I like the sign. I hope I get this... *wub* -ZotS Quote
