garethjellis Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I have spent probably the best part of 150 hours on this MOC, it was very very challenging, especially when it came to concealing the PF. https://www.flickr.com/photos/118397526@N08/13023744304/ Quote
Man with a hat Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Well, it was worth the effort. Very nice looking engine. Nice details. You really captured the look of the real one. Did you switch the window and the door on purpose to accommodate the PF? Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Nice engine. It is odd to see a british engine in this type of configuration, I think the Class 20 was about the only one or at least the only one that springs to mind? It is an interesting colour scheme for it as well, but very well executed. I especially liked the wheels. Quote
garethjellis Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 Hi Man with hat and Hrw, thanks fo rthe compliments It was and interesting project as there are many reference pictures available with many variations. I posted a second reference picture with the same colour scheme that I used and the door set ups are different. I am guessing they were different versions. http://www.flickr.com/photos/118397526@N08/13032580293/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/118397526@N08/13023593733/in/photostream/ Quote
Heppeng Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 It is in fact exactly the same loco! They were not different versions, they were different on each side as your photo of the one loco clearly shows. The reason being that the Drivers desks were on the Left hand side of the cab in direction of travel, with the window alongside and the door behind. The sides of the loco are therefore 'opposite hand' to accomodate this with the windows/doors at diagonally opposite corners. Quote
garethjellis Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 Thank you Heppeng, That is great information that I obviously missed. I have now rectified the door situation and added two drives desks and controls. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Very nice MOC! I like the red train base! Beautiful rendering! Quote
zephyr1934 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 A great build of an uncommon prototype. The doors came out quite well. Quote
andythenorth Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Two of these went past my house 3 times a day for years, and there were 228 of them built, so not that uncommon. Ok so it's a small number compared to 3000 SD40s Quote
Lazarus Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Close to the look of mine, good job looks just like it. Quote
garethjellis Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 I would love to see yours. Close to the look of mine, good job looks just like it. Quote
Pizzareno Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Hey great job. Looks really nice. I like the bogie detail. In fact the whole thing just looks good Would you put white 1 x 1 round plates for the springs instead of black ones like in your reference photo or does that look weird? Quote
Lazarus Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 My one, http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=381830&id=/user_images/106143/1393051624m_DISPLAY.jpg Quote
garethjellis Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) And here it is in brick, i ended up putting 2 motors in. I like be as purist as possible however I had to create a slim Li-Ion battery to make this work. Edited April 14, 2014 by garethjellis Quote
zephyr1934 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 The engine looks great in real brick... though you know you are asking for off topic questions when you park the MOC over a three way switch like that. Please post pictures of the switch too (in a new topic of course). Quote
