Bison Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I am having trouble deciding which version to get RCX,NXT, or EV3. I like the old look of the RCX but I am not sure if that is the best. Thanks Quote
DrJB Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) Here's the verdict 1. EV3: is the latest, thus more compatible with existing computers, tablets, ... etc 2. NXT: has a large user base, though if you're considering NXT, go for the EV3, you get one more motor port and SD card storage (and other improvements) 3. RCX: Compatible with studded Technic, old motors/sensors .. can get cheap sets off eBay for $50 ... but will NOT run on any recent computer, and support is fading. Can't run on Windows 7, programming language rather limited. All said and done, and if you're starting from scratch, get the EV3 ... then your next question should be: Retail or EDU version? Well, there are multiple posts about this already on EB, it all depends on your existing parts collection. The 'basic' software is free for both and does quite a bit already. JopieK Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 EV3 is the best! Especially the standard programming version. I would go for the educational edition though! Quote
Jim Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Here's the verdict: EV3! Educational has more value for money, but you will need the software, which adds to the price. I would definitely NOT buy the RCX. What DrJB said And I do agree with JopieK that the Educational version is better. But to make your life easy, go for the Retail version. You can always buy the rechargeable battery later. And the IR modules are great fun to start with. Quote
lilongwe Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 For the nxt speaks: can get for example more sensors of other provider (mindsensors; hi technic, ...) could use different programming languages Quote
Zmei_gorini4 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) I think it is better to take the NXT. because it is cheaper than EV3, and you can create a lot of things. Edited March 8, 2014 by Zmei_gorini4 Quote
