The sale ends tomorrow, so if you've been waiting to get those expensive sets, now's the time ... Sale unfortunately is NOT valid for Mindstorms, but the 42009 Crane Mk2 sure qualifies.

the main issue with this is that TRU prices are 20% higher on each set (24.99 instead of 19.99) so let's say you get the creator furry creatures and jungle creatures...both marked at 24.99, you get one at 24.99 and the next at 12.50 which comes out to be 37.49. Your savings over the normal price of 39.98 is only 2.49 which is 6% off your total purchase, plus you lose out on the points if you are a VIP member. If you can get TRU to price match, then you have an actual bargain, otherwise you are actually paying normal price really even with the sale

Too bad we still do not have the new 2014 sets yet. :sceptic:

I would say the best deal is if you want to buy 2 of the 9398 crawlers. They are at least regular price.

Let me do the math again ...

If I buy 2x 42009 at TRU, I'll pay: 1.5×($239.99)×1.10%(Tax)=$395.98

If I buy 2× 42009 at Lego, I'll pay: 2.0×($219.99)×1.10%(Tax) - 5% (VIP rewards) = $461.98

Thus, it's a $66 savings total for 2 ... what am I missing? It certainly is NOT the deal of the century, but makes 42009 a bit less than $200 a piece (all inclusive) ... much better than the 440 I get from TLG (including taxes and VIP rewards), right?

DrJB - I agree with you for the most part, but your price at TRU is rare, TRU usually marks up 20%. On that particular set it looks like you are only getting charged 10% more. Your math is fine, but you have to look at the set price. Ex...item X is $14.99 at Lego, but is $19.99 at TRU, do the math there and you don't have such a bargain. It just depends on what you are wanting to buy.

Hi

i really love EB because its an international forum!

But i dislike if people just suggest everything is US-releated. Its not!

So my gernan TRU NEVER had these offers, not even close. There are "finds" ans "sales" topics in a specific subforum. You dont like spamming me offers here of all german store you never heard of, do you? :)

If i am too harsh: just imagine, i am not an english native speaker ;)

My calculations were not based on theoretical figures. Those are actual prices I paid today at TRU ... I never suggested it was a good deal across the board, but you have to do the math for the specific set you're interested in. I for one, am interested primarily in the large stes, where the markup typically does not exceed 10% ... Sorry if it's not that good of a deal for other smaller sets.

Now, on a different note, and not related to the sale, I got the large technic helicopter for $60 only ... Why? Because the gentleman at TRU was kind enough to price match the price on TLG, which is having those as well for half-price ...

Not to bash anyone but, asides from the VIP points, I have never seen any sales at the Lego store. My experience with most Lego stores, is that many salespeople there are too 'stiff' with some rules ... No need to go into details here. I am not promoting any given store, just found a bargin and thought I'd share with the community.

I was tempted to ignore this comment but could not ... No one ever implied the US is the Center of the World ... I also see many eBay sellers in Germany who refuse to sell to people located in the US. Does it upset me? Absolutely not. This is a hobby to be enjoyed and everyone takes away from it what works for them. My intention was not to make the rest of the world envious of TRU prices or deals ... Again, just sharing that some can get a bargain ... Especially the large technic sets.

very cool to pick up that copter, it's a great set, agree with you 100% that sale is great for the big pieces that are not marked up very much, but you have to be careful, I think in the end we were saying the same thing from different sides of the coin.

Darth Dino - you are right, perhaps in the future we need to use the title, U.S. TRU's sale prices, I have been to a TRU in Taiwan and was amazed at the difference in the selections they had there, this was back in 1999 and that was my lego dark ages as they say but got some gundams they didn't have in the US and later sold them for 100% profit. It's hard not to be relevant to where you are though. That is why I like the buy/sell/trade section here but I feel it is way underutilized.

Took advantage of this today. I bought the 9398 for 199.99 and the Lego city Museum Break for 82.99. I got 41.50 off the cheaper item so my total was 241.48 I would have bought a more expensive second set, but that was the one my kid wanted. Adding these two sets up on Lego.com is 269.98 so i ended up saving 28.50 overall.

FYI walmart has had a couple of sets on for up to 24% off. I just picked up the 42009 there for 174.99
