Lego Otaku Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Local stores are running out of LEGO Movie sets due to the movie but a local Walmart had to commit a serious crime of putting MegaJunk onto TLM display. This is like putting a Ford Edsel engine into Ferrari or Lamborghini. They had regular LEGO sets they could have used but they choose to shove crappy clone junk onto the display and give less knowledgeable adult the mistaken impression those are LEGO. End rant
naf Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 They might get a nasty visit from a Lego rep. That whole display is probably provided by TLC, and I don't think they'd be too keen on it being used to sell a competitor's product.
Anathaema Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Hope the manager has some complaints to read after this

Herky Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 LOL no, Walmart goes into the black on Jan 5 if I recall correctly, so they don't need Lego as much as Lego needs the largest retailer in the world...Lego sales would plummet if WM booted them. TLG rep is unlikely to say anything except try to get his/her product out of the warehouse and on the shelves ASAP. What kills me is the folks who buy Lego at Toys R Us, which is always a 20% markup from the lego store or WM or Target...I don't go to KMart so not sure if they stock or what their prices are.
Lego_Hero Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 The local TRU here has a better selection than the surrounding wal-marts, but yeah, the prices on what they do have is way better. The one wal-mart in my town actually mixes all the other brands in and among the Lego isle, probably to confuse grandparents.
Faefrost Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Does Walmart need LEGO more than LEGO needs Walmart? The question is more that Walmart and Lego need each other far more than Walmart particularly needs that specific local or regional Walmart manager. The Lego rep will typically have far more sway at HQ than the locals will. The buyers deal with Lego all day every day. They only deal with a store manager when there is a problem like this.
Deathleech Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Those do have the big Megabloks logo on them, not the red Lego one that is on ALL Lego products. If people are seriously confused, they deserve to buy the wrong product. However, sticking the Megabloks in a spot designated specifically for the Lego Movie probably isn't the greatest idea. Wal-Mart probably just figured it was better putting them there then having a bare shelf. Of course putting some OTHER Lego product there, as someone mentioned, would of been the best choice.
lightningtiger Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) It's not uncommon to see in some stores in Oz to see Halo sets sitting near Lego Star Wars sets. But we all know who has the power.......Lego is a huge global brand like many others like Coca Cola and Microsoft.....which in a way they can call the shots......though the last two are bigger than Walmart. Sarah Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Does Walmart need LEGO more than LEGO needs Walmart? Both of our local Lego do not appear to have gotten new Lego in -- NONE of the Disney Princess. None of the new Lego Friends. they've even started putting Barbie sets in the Friends area! I'm actually rather shocked that here it is, February, and they are having so many problems getting new Lego in. At first I thought it was a sign of Lego having trouble keeping up with demand (esp since at first Target's shelves were bare as well) Now I am beginning to wonder if either Walmart is scaling back their Lego displays or Lego is slowing down shipments to Walmart in particular.
Blondie-Wan Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 On a related note, I had to endure a KRE-O promo spot before two of my viewings of The LEGO Movie (!).
iamwhoiam Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 On a related note, I had to endure a KRE-O promo spot before two of my viewings of The LEGO Movie (!). Ha Ha I had to go through this too! Anyway as for the Walmart display, that seems like the exact type of thing the folks at my local Walmart would do!
Lego Otaku Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 Today at the same Walmart they mercifully replaced the icky junk with regular LEGO sets. Mostly the City themes with just a few TLM still around. I wonder who yelled at the store to make them move the inferior junk out?

Nah, if they did, they never would have that horrible, deadly, awful mistake in the first place.
DuckBricks Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 How atrocious! I have seen similar stuff at my local target, even with a box of the LEGO Movie figs stuffed with some M*ga B**ks junk! I informed the salesperson but he seemed to not really care and said "aren't they the same thing anyway?" Needless to say I was pretty irritated but let it go. :)
