zouave Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 The other day I was wondering if it were okay to go out and get new members. Is it okay or is it a job for a member of a higher rank.Of course they would have to be a reliable person. Okay, well actually I did this because there's this one guy I'd like offer membership.Hobbes has talked about him and Bonneparte posted one of his creations on Mocpages.I just wanted to clear it up before I did something foolish. Please help. Quote
dunamis Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 The site is wide open for anyone to view or sign up to post. You don't have to be recruited to join. Ideally, we want people who will contribute intelligently to the discussion and not those who quadrouple post in chat speak... Quote
Starwars4J Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Exactly, anyone is free to join (as long as they haven't already been banned that is >:-) ). You're not contacting him as a representative of Eurobricks, you're just contacting him as a fellow lego enthusiast, so I see no problem in it, really. And as dunamis mentioned we want to try for a more mature userbase that will both respect other members and contribute constructively to the community Quote
gylman Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 This is not one of those things where whoever has the highest member wins. Some forums seem like that, but EB definitely is not. 200 good members who contibute and get along is much better than 2000 who contribute little, get into fights, and don't really care about Lego - they are just here because a buddy asked them to join. However, if you know a committed Lego fan, who builds nice things, knows about Lego or wants to learn more, and would be a valuable addition to the community... by all means, invite him or her! Quote
Asuka Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Maybe we should start a campaign.... 8-| Quack if you like bricks! :-P Quote
PSPguy Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 A little much Asuka. *skull* On topic: Also we dont want something like " I pwn j00 411 n0w g!\/3 /\/\3 4 c00k!3!" :-D Quote
ApophisV Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I just can confirm most things that were said above: If your friends are LEGO fans as well, feel free to tell them about Eurobricks! We always are happy about new members in our little community! BUT: If you just need a place for yourself to chat with your homies about any chit chat, it would NOT be okay! Better get Windows Live Messenger or ICQ or whatever. Bringing friends and fans of LEGO. Yes! Bringing people that aren't connected with our site's matters: NO! Quote
Vader Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Indeed as Apo pointed out this isnt a chat room, over the last few months weve had to put a stop to a few younger members who were attempting to use eb as such. One member was banned because of this (his attitude also sucked) and others have been warned, that said most new members treat eb with respect. So if thats the kind of person you find then we shall all welcome them with open arms. :-) Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 25, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 25, 2007 Hobbes has talked about him and Bonneparte posted one of his creations on Mocpages. I guess you mean I posted one of his creations in one of our forums. Can you tell me which MOC this was? Or better, give the link to the thread it was posted in. Quote
Chuck Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I am in contact with the notorious Japanese builder, Izzo. I was thinking of asking if he wanted to join Eurobricks. -l2k- Quote
Brick Miner Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 hmmm... there is the school of thought geared at getting new members to join. i have read some discussion about this in the pirate forum (contacting ebay-purchasers, advertising, etc...). personally, i think i fall into this field of thinking... 200 good members who contibute and get along is much better than 2000 who contribute little, get into fights, and don't really care about Lego... this is actual an interesting topic, and something to think about in reference to the growth of our (any ???) community. - BrickMiner Quote
