Color Confusion

Hello all,

I decided to make my first ship MOC. However, I am confused on what color of hull to use. I am going for a realistic brown ship so I decided to use the hulls that came from an incomplete Viking Ship Challenges the Midgard Serpent. However, brickset says that color only came in that set for hull parts?! What color should I use for a basic brown ship?

You can get hulls from pirate sets in blue, brown, red and white. Other sets have colours ranging from trans clear to pink. There may be others but it depends on what theme it is from, and what type of hull. The hulls I am thinking of are the ones used in brick beards bounty, for example, and carribean clipper. Then there are the smaller ones used in the imperial flagship (original, not the 2009) and the imperial armada ship. There are many hulls, various sizes.

I would assume you want the large ones, and in that case, I believe that you are limited to brown only.

Hi there,

not sure I fully understand your question, but why don't you check out bricklink for inspiration. The Viking bow element you're referring to comes in three colors. However, more common here are these and these, along with their related midsections here and here. The "old" midsections from the 90's feature an even greater variety in sizes and colors. Regarding brown, there are three different shades, classic brown, reddish brown and dark brown.

All in all, there's plenty of material to choose from. Good luck with your ship!

The hulls of the Brickbeard Bounty match colors perfectly with the viking ship,

in other words, you can perfectly use the viking ship's midsections to make the Brickbeard bounty longer (or make the viking ship longer) and the color will be consistent.
