I thought a December release was established recently.. can't remember where we saw it but I was pretty sure...

By the way, we might see a pre-SDCC reveal for Erebor, seeing as the UCS Tumbler was just announced.

There was an advertisement at the German(?) Toy Fair, but it was like two weeks after we first saw them in London and they were announced as an October release. We also saw the retailer catalog which listed them as an October release. At this point it's anybody's guess the actual release date.. it's either October or December though.

October would be great, mainly because of Brick Friday in November. If it comes out in October and they offer Triple VIP points again in November, then that would be a great time to pick up Erebor. If you have a December release just like the last two years, not only do you miss the triple points, but you might not be able to get it in time for Christmas.

I've got my copy of Polish catalogue and on Hobbit page one of the minifigs says: More to come in December when final Hobbit will be in cinemas.:)

More sets?

The difference is that Azog was not among the four exclusives last year (despite coming with a card that claimed he was exclusive) and Bard unfortunately is :sadnew: If this version's in one of the sets nonetheless, that would mean that all of the exclusives are previews rather than exclusives :sweet: I really wouldn't count on it though.

You'd be satisfied if they only revealed Smaug? What about the rest of the set?

I've always cared more about the figs and creatures than the sets themselves. The set is just a backdrop. The figs are what truly matter to me. So if they were to only reveal the Smaug fig, I'd be content. However, my guess is they'll reveal the whole Smaug set.

Another difference is that Bard has already appeared in a set. Normally the exclusives have not appeared in any form. So this is not necessarily an exclusive like all others before.

Superman was a NYCC exclusive, but soon turned up in a regular set whereas Batman and Green Lantern didn't. Which suggests that there is no fixed rule.

Plus there is nothing to stop them releasing the torso and legs but with a different head print, and still calling that minifig exclusive. Or have a safety stud for the head in a set vs solid stud for the exclusive, like they did with the chibi landspeeder Luke.

Got it from CNBC.com

"In anticipation of this December's theatrical release of THE HOBBIT: The Battle of the Five Armies, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), LEGO Systems will unveil one of the new LEGO THE HOBBIT sets that is slated to hit store shelves in October."

YAY, october release still, doesent matter that it's jsut 1 set reveal. when all of them are released so soon.

2+ months till release, and we'll proapbly see more of the sets before release. + they usualy show up in stores a little before release. but either way no mroe than 3 months till everything.

tho i wouldnt imagine they get ins tores same time worldwide.

Also the do not say the minfigiure is exclusive. they do with the other themes. So thats that.

I'm with you on this; I might just pick up the figures directly from eBay or BL this time instead of buying the sets retail. All the bricks from the sets I currently have (all of them) are in ziplock bags in storage except for Bag End and the Goblin King's throne. The figures are all I display as I just don't have enough shelf space for the rest of it.

With that in mind, I've actually been meaning to ask if there is any re-sale interest for the full sets without the figures themselves? I know I've seen some people mention that the Black Gate requires two sets to make a "true gate" so I guess someone would be interested in that, but unsure about the others.

Well, some sets are pretty neat and might be worthwhile to have more than one to expand. I think it would solely depend on cost without figures.

yeah I agree lots of them are great and I'd like to be able to display them, but tbh LEGO is on the bottom rung of my collecting priorities. I'm mostly into collecting vintage minifigs like Battle Beasts and Monster in my Pocket. :)

I hear of people buying complete sets without the minifigs on eBay as an cheap way to build ones brick collection. You might check out what each set is going for there before deciding.

Too bad it's just one set, but we pretty much know which one it'll be  The best news though is the reconfirmation of the release date  The previous Hobbit waves have both been revealed in October, so it's not unlikely we might see some pictures in August

Ya, people sell sets with just the bricks and no minifigs all the time. The bricks usually don't go for a ton though in comparrison to the minifigures which can fetch $5-10 each. If you sell just the bricks look to get about half to two thirds the total cost of a set. I think they are a bit tougher to sell as well.
