bachamn Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) I don't know where it's from, I just heard it through the grapevine. Why does it matter? This is a discussion, not a debate. Well, it matters because this thread is basically all speculation and disagreements about speculation; if there's an actual quote that can be put up and evaluated by the community, it seems valid to suggest it be posted for that purpose, rather than another "I heard this and I think this about what I heard". After deskp posted it, it sounds much less like what you had described initially so I'm glad he took the time to do it. No no, quite the oposite. Thorin wants all the gold for himself, but Bofur will think its fair to give some of it to the laketown people due to the smaug attack caused by the dwarves I'd agree; this would serve to drive character development in a meaningful way (if you're familiar with where the storyline is headed). It's just that i think he's gonna feel what Thorin feels when the eternal blaze of fire and corruption attacks the bloody city on water! People please! read something and try to understand it! gosh... I get what you're saying, but I don't see how this would contribute anything to the storyline. Empathy for the LT people and a resulting fissure between Thorin and Bofur in the face of Thorin's greed would serve as a more significant plot development than Bofur simply understanding what Thorin went through with Smaug previously. The dwarves all already look up to Thorin and feel reverance for what he and Balin went through (remember the campfire scene in AUJ?), so what would be the point in furthering that specific perspective through a first-hand experience? Much more likely that Bofur having a fresh experience of Smaug destroying an entire city will give him the proper perspective on the circumstances, while Thorin's greed prevents him from remembering it as clearly as he should, since his people went through the same thing but long ago. We'll just have to wait and see when the film comes out though, since all the dwarves not going to Erebor together is a complete departure from the canon anyway. Regardless of how accurate our knowledge of Bofur's role will be in TABA, it still has nothing to do with Lego, and we are still at the end of the day only speculating based on this information. 3 of the 4 DOS sets should show you a thing or two about expectations based on what actually happens in the movie. And to be fair, grilling me for a quote isn't going to progress the discussion any more than speculation would either. But that's just my opinion. Quote

You used Bofur supposed imporant part in smaugs attack as reason for him being in the set. That wasn't exactly correct so that should also change your theory on bofur being in the lego set. Besides you dont want to start a conversation based on incorrect information, that does no good. we already know very little convoluting it with misinformation can be really bad, the way rumors etc goes on here. Besides you dont want to start a conversation based on incorrect information, that does no good. we already know very little convoluting it with misinformation can be really bad, the way rumors etc goes on here. What I exactly said is he's supposed to play a bigger role, coming into his own. 'Coming into his own' are the exact words Boynes used in your quote, and given that he has been given a mention unlike the other 3 dwarves in Lake Town, I'd say for now that's a bigger role than previously. Furthermore if he is the one that starts the rift with Thorin due to his experience, and that rift is a major plot point, then that at least makes him more important than the other three. So from what we've been told so far (very little) he at least has a bit more reason to be in the kit than Oin, Fili, or Kili. Not sure how what you quoted is as drastically far off from my paraphrasing as ye are making it out to be. That's how we do it on Eurobricks! it's all about debates, speculations, toughts and more just thinking and discussing what sets will look like I know; I'm not the one on this thread complaining about that after all. That's mostly what discussion forums are about after all. I don't want to further derail the thread however or risk an argument over it, so I will digress and not post any further off-hand information. My apologies. bachamn Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 grilling me for a quote isn't going to progress the discussion any more than speculation would either. But that's just my opinion. Seems you're not familiar with amicable discourse; I was disagreeing with your assertion that it didn't matter if the quote was shared or not because I felt that was an incorrect statement. Not sure how that's "grilling you", but whatever. Quote
