Scouty Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Hazzah! Hazzah! The new Pirate website is up! Hands towards MisterPhes! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 9, 2007 Governor Posted April 9, 2007 We might as well start a new thread for this topic so I've moved Mr ImperialScout's post here. Yes! The Pirate LEGO Portal Website has been launched!!! Visit Classic-Pirates.com today! And now I ask you these questions 3: 1) What content would you like to see on the website? 2) What features would you like to have this website to have? 3) What would get you visiting this website on a regular basis? This website is for Pirate LEGO fans, so tell us what you'd like! We cannot guarentee we can implement everything but we'll do our best. Quote
Scouty Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Thanks Mister Phes :capn: 1) Can't think of anything the site already has. 2)[Edit]Slash that. I would venture more into the site but my internet is as slow as a turtle today. 3) If the forum was there. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 9, 2007 Governor Posted April 9, 2007 It already has a search engine... Just click the "search" link in the left navigation. Quote
LBaixinho Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Congratulations and thanks for this new resource. I'm wainting for some contest and more articles :) I only ask a better way of listing MOCs. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 9, 2007 Governor Posted April 9, 2007 We probably won't have a competition for a while but what kind of "articles" would you like Mr Baixinho? We shall definitely be addressing the way MOCs are listed in the near future. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 9, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 9, 2007 I only ask a better way of listing MOCs. Could you elaborate a bit more on this Mr. LBaixinho? Currently we have several indexes for listing MOCs: Indexes - Libraries - Tutorials. I'm very interested in your feedback and suggestions! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 9, 2007 Governor Posted April 9, 2007 Maybe he's referring to the MOC Index page on the Classs-Pirates.com. In addition to the links to your indexes Mr Bonaparte, we'll choose the 5 most stunning Pirate MOCs for each category and put their thumbnails on that page. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 9, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 9, 2007 In addition to the links to your indexes Mr Bonaparte, we'll choose the 5 most stunning Pirate MOCs for each category and put their thumbnails on that page. Good idea, but it won't be easy to select them. Will we give preference to MOCs from our members when possible? Or do you want to be completely objective in the selection? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 9, 2007 Governor Posted April 9, 2007 If I didn't want members input then I wouldn't have mentioned it in this thread ;-) Honestly I'd have trouble choosing the 5, so help will be required - but that won't be for a couple of weeks. Quote
ellerb Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I think it is great that a LEGO Pirate fan site has been created. It should be separate from EB with its own forums, articles, set archives, building standards, etc all hosted on CP. Ben Quote
tedbeard Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Perhaps the cannon making index could be included on the Tutorials page? If I was looking to make cannons that is where I would look. *sweet* Quote
Maedhros Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I think it is great that a LEGO Pirate fan site has been created. It should be separate from EB with its own forums, articles, set archives, building standards, etc all hosted on CP.Ben And now the CC groupie runs to support his great admin :-D Nah, but seriously I think Ben has a good point there. An independent Classic-Pirates would be so much better than a branch of Eurobricks. And yes, I like the front page :-$ Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 10, 2007 Governor Posted April 10, 2007 An independent forum is being considered for the future, however we are unsure of the best way to proceed. Unless we start from scratch we'll need to transfer everything to the new domain which will be time consuming and complicated. It won't be as simple as transferring the files, it will probably involve some downtime so we'll need to have little on our schedules to ensure that's as minimil as possible. In the meantime we will continue developing the Portal Website and establish Classic-Pirates.com within the AFOL community. Perhaps the cannon making index could be included on the Tutorials page? If I was looking to make cannons that is where I would look. *sweet* I'll get the Master Index Builder's opinion on that one. I'm not fussed where its located just so long as everyone agrees its the most convenient place. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 10, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 10, 2007 I'll get the Master Index Builder's opinion on that one. I'm not fussed where its located just so long as everyone agrees its the most convenient place. The INDEX: Cannon MOCs and Index: Accessory MOCs both still need to be added to the portal. Question is, do they belong more into the MOC Galleries or Tutorials-sections? Well, they don't contain actual instructions, so my first idea would be to put them in the MOC Galleries. But I understand why Mr. Tedbeard would put them with the Tutorials. The smaller the MOCs, the easier they are to reproduce. I'll leave the final decision to the webmaster X-D Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 10, 2007 Governor Posted April 10, 2007 Why don't we get the Apprentice Index Builder's (Phred) opinion, see he made the Cannon MOC Index. I don't think I'll use the Cannon MOC Index for building purposes, rather I'd just browse it to look at the MOCs. There's always the possibility we could put a link in both areas just so long as its not confusing. Quote
Capn Frank Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 *sweet* *y* :-D Yippie!!!!!!!! there's classic-pirates.com X-D :x (i don't know why i put that there :-|| ) Ahem. Why don't we get the Apprentice Index Builder's (Phred) opinion, see he made the Cannon MOC Index.I don't think I'll use the Cannon MOC Index for building purposes, rather I'd just browse it to look at the MOCs. There's always the possibility we could put a link in both areas just so long as its not confusing. Apprentice Index Builder :-D LOL :-D OM(goodness) it's under my avatar now. That's funny :'-) I think the Accessory index would make more sense in the tutorial section, a good portion of the "MOCs" are actually portions of MOCs. As for the Cannon Index, I have no idea. If you need to pick one, i don't think it really matters. Mr. P wants it in the MOCs portion while Tedbeard wants it in the tutorials. I don't think it'd be confusing to have it in both. I'll leave that up to the boss (Mr. Phes) P Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 11, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 11, 2007 Maybe it is a good idea to put The Wikipedia Links on the pirate portal. Under Links --> Historic Reference? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 11, 2007 Governor Posted April 11, 2007 I was actually thinking about creating a "Resources" or "Reference" or "Research" page for Historic References. Would that be worthwhile? Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 11, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 11, 2007 I was actually thinking about creating a "Resources" or "Reference" or "Research" page for Historic References. Would that be worthwhile? Why not, but where will you draw the line with the "links" page? In general, I suggest to try to limit the number of items in the "Menu". Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 11, 2007 Governor Posted April 11, 2007 I suggest I agree with you. There's already plenty there now and we I must think toward the future because no doubt there will be more added for certain features which are yet to be implemented. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Phes, this is a really nice GUI. I don't have much to offer in terms of suggestions for improvment, but wanted to say "nice job". I really like the overall look of the main page with the water in the background and the parchment look of the menus. And you got my review of the CC in, so I'm happy. If I think of something constructive, I'll respond again. One suggestion: have a NEWS or Hot Topics link. You could post things like the main page of EB. The Pirates of the Carribean Contest comes to mind. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 12, 2007 Governor Posted April 12, 2007 The main page (index.html) will be the news/hot topic area, so you'll it every time you go to Classic-Pirate.com. No news has been added yet because I wanted to keep the opening annoucement up front for at least a week. But this could change very soon... Quote
Privateer Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Very neat; LEGO Pirates now has its own site again! What I would like to see is postings of pirate MOCs on the front page like Classic-Castle does. And as others have said, great job on the layout, interface, and graphics! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 14, 2007 Governor Posted April 14, 2007 I have made some updates! Norrington's "Dead Men Tell No Tales" Vignette Contest is the second news item on the main page. The Cannon MOC Index and the Accessories MOC Index have been added to both the Tutorials and MOC Galleries pages. The Wikipedia Index has been added to the Links page under the Historic Reference section. Quote
