EV3 Expansion Set

I bought EV3 mindstorms retail set recently. Wondering whether I should also purchase EV3 expansion set.

What is the best technic retail set that is closest to EV3 expansion set ? Are there any must have parts in EV3 expansion set for general use ?

It all depends on what you want to do. My suggestion would be to start with the Retail set and go from there. Decide what you want to build and which parts you need. You can get separate parts from Bricklink or you can still buy the expansion set.

There's no real answer to your question. It very much depends on what your goal is.

Fully agree with Jim/Ted ... I've had the expansion set for a while, and while it has many nice parts, I realized earlier on I needed to get the small turntables + ball caster. Got few from eBay and now can build the EDU projects.
