BiohazardRacer Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) Hi everyone . Here is my design of the 8258 crane truck. In the first few days after sales it becames very clear for me that the standard set wasn’t good enough, I want it to be more like the real thing. So it took me a lot of pictures to make out what design I wanted, I choosed for a 5 axled truck. I made the chassis longer and added an steered axle. The open roof is completely closed and I changed the complete front grill appearance more to the modern R series from Scania, I’ve given it 2 extra front stabilizers for cranening forward. I also have made some furnishing for in the cabin. I also rebuild the knuckleboom of the crane, the normal single extension wasn’t enough for me, but I had no clue of how to make it longer. After some search at google I found pictures of a builder who has made an rear mounted crane on the 8258 and his crane has 3 extensions and a jib,( I don’t know if it’s familiar to you). So this was what I needed for my crane . My crane is some more improved to the one on the pictures I found . I’ve made an 2 axled lowloader to complete the model, the gooseneck can be dropped so something can be loaded. Jim Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Hi, welcome to EB! I have corrected your images. You probably messed up a bit while editing. Very nice modifications! Quote
Rishab N Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Nice modifications. i also modified my 8258 in another topic which i can't find . Could you give more pics of the crane and the rear steering axle? Quote
BiohazardRacer Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 thanks for the comments. @ Rishab N. yes i will do that tomorrow. Quote
Lundgren Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Nice mods! Actually I'm modding my own just now! I'm adding double wheels on axle 3 and 4 and I'm adding a steerable 5 axle. This is how it's suppose to look when I'm done! I will start my own thread when I'm done. Off course it will be rc, and I will build a trailer for it to pull my Ultimate 8043. Quote
skriblez Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Very nice work both of you. Just makes me want this model more :P Quote
BiohazardRacer Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) It took a bit longer than i expected but here are some more photos of the crane and rear steering mechanism The crane Unfolded The jib Fully extended Rear Wheel steering mechanism. The rear Wheel steering is connected to the last front steering axle with 2 cross joints and going true the gearbox. I don't have a clue what's the problem with my pictures?? is there anyone that can explane me what i'm doing wrong Edited October 29, 2013 by BiohazardRacer Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 In order to show pictures you need to copy the "direct" code and then insert it into the "post image box" in the "posting toolbar". Quote
Lundgren Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Can you show me more how you did your steering for the fifth axle!? This is how i did mine. Quote
BiohazardRacer Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 Your steering is rather apart i wouldn't come up with that . For every one who want's to know how my steering works, i have made some pictures the cross joints connected from the second steering axle underneath the gear changers rear steering. full lenght Quote
Lundgren Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Ok, yes I thought about something like that first. But it is so tight in the chassis, then I came up with my simple solution. Not many parts so not much "backlash". And I still have plenty of space behind the XL motor to add one more for driving! Quote
Junpei Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 I love the modifications, the crane has a lot of functions but looks kind of bulky IMO. Is it a trick of the eye or is the front wheel cambering (in the second pic in the OP)? Quote
BiohazardRacer Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 No its not a trick of the eye the trucks rear is 1 stud wider, so i put some bushes on the frontaxles to match the rear track width, with that and the weight gives camber to both front axles Quote
