Hiya everyone! *sweet* I have a question for you. I know many people have made custom pirate ships, so what materials/fabrics do you use to make the custom sails. I made a black pearl from LEGO FACTORY Black Pearl Here but before I potenially buy it, I want to make sure I know what to do for the sails. Thanks for your help! *sweet*

Well. You can use many types of material for sails.

A couple I know of are paper and fabrics like cloth. You can use alot of things [Even Lego!] You also have the option to paint black sails on paper or cloth.

And I must say, that Black Pearl look really good!

Thanks! I want to use a sort of fabric, I just don't know what. Maybe felt...hmmm... I also would want to teather it to get an eerie affect like the movie (but that is if I end up buying it, it's kinda expensive :-/ $106 USD)

First off, that's a very nice LDD Model!

If it wasn't 116 bucks, I'd probably buy it!!!

Second, well, I usually use paper, but it's not that ideal...

Maybe you could use Evil Willy's tutorial:

How to Make Sails for your MOCs

Unless you build the DMC version(white sails) you can paint them black or use black cloth.

Good luck!

If you want a teathered efect...try wrinkleing the heck out of it[this is with cloth]. Beat it with something. And if available, cut with an exacto knife or something if you want holes in the sails.

Is it the black cloth that is expensive?

I'm not sure, I haven't started looking. Do you think it's worth $106 USD? I like the design of the hull: 2x1's and 1x1 cylinders stacked. I have seen that teqnique used for castle towers and things, so why not a ship hull? What I need to do is think of an exuse to buy it: how about Easter, do people get presents for that?

How much would I pay? I would spend the $106 USD. I like the look and the hull tequnique I ended up using (becasue I could not find any hulls on eBay). Oh, and thanks for that tutorial on sails- its very interesting. Maybe I'll end up using that (that is if I buy the thing) :-D

I added some more details, like rails and things. My problem is that I have been researching the ship, but some pics show it with only 4 sails, 1 in front, 2 in middle, and 1 in back, but some show it with 6. I'm so confused! :S

Do you have pictures or can you create pictures of these details Sir Nadroj? It would be interesting to see what you're up to.

I've never used LEGO Digital Designer so I'm not sure how people usually share pictures of what they build.

Mr Tiber has bet me to it! What a dilligent and response Moderator he is! Next thing he might contemplate is whether this is a MOC thread X-D

This thread is partially about a MOC and partially about sails for the Black Pearl, so we can either split the topic, but Sir Nadroj can also create a new topic about his ship in the MOC section! I think that's better.

I have never created a custom pirate ship- only a wrecked one on my brickshelf gallery: i used some 1x4 tiles on a red hull sticking out all crooked so it looks like jagged floorboards... but back on topic: does anyone think $115+ USD is worth it, 'cause I don't want to waste money on it. (not like any lego is a waste of money *sweet* )

ok, so I bought the Black Pearl (along with the little duck sculputre I have for my avatar), and it should come in in a little while maybe another 10 ays or so, so when it comes in, i'll put it together, then do something for the sails

You know, those would probably work, but it's just that I just so HATE mega bloks. UHhhhh, I can't stand the things simply becasue they are mega bloks. They wish they could be half has cool (and stable :-$ ) as legos, so porbably no, plus I don't want to spend $50+ dollars for the sails, then throw the rest away, you know. But that was a good suggestion, I probably wouldn't have thought of that, but I think i'll do a little experimenting of my own first.

If you can get over the fact the sails are manufactured by Megabloks you probably could get them buy them second hand. I haven't tried searching over eBay but that would be my first port of call.

But just think, you'd be taking Megabloks elements and improving on them since they are the actual bricks X-D

Megablocks..*wub*

Edit:If I did an Edit: for Megablocks,It would go on the 2nd page, therefore the word's would and/or being in the state of being undiscovred, not to mention the fact that SirNadroj only did:

8-o :-X :S :-|| |-/ X-O :-| :-/ 8-| 8-| 8-o >:-( :-X

Which is not in the state of long or with any word's at all.

"Would you ever consider using the sail's from the Black Pearl Megablock set" Isn't in the state of being long. :-P

Considering you'ld have to manke unofficial elements for sails anyway I'd have no problem using megablok sails. I'd bet if you used those no one here would even notice unless told otherwise, and they might be even better than one (peraps you) could make in the first place. *y* I think it's a good idea but I highly doubt you will be able to find parted-out magblok sets anywhere.

Seriously, quit the spamming kiddo. |-/
