About a year ago (I don't remember exactly when it was) I discovered the Sharpe Series.

The books (written by Bernard Cronwell) and TV-series describe the adventures of Richard Sharpe, a soldier in the "rifles" company of the British army during the Napoleonic wars. They were the first to use the Baker rifle in stead of the standard musket. Partly because of my love for this series, I started my Napoleonic and British armies.

During that time I found an incredible website that was a great inspiration for me. The creator of the website had lost it's interest in Lego by the time I discovered the site. As a precaution, I stored the entire site on my PC. Some time ago, this great website disappeared from the internet. But now it is back online on my personal webspace.

Sit back and relax while you browse through one of the best websites about Lego and the Napoleonic wars that ever existed.

Don't just look at the pictures, but also read the text if you have the time.

Link to the website: Lego Sharpe - Friends & Foe

I've never seen or heard of this website before, or the TV or book series for that matter.

You haven't hear about the Sharpe series Mr Phes? The opening music of the episodes is really superb.

I bought a Chinese version of the DVD-box on ebay (to save some money). But the 2 last DVDs don't work :S

Here he is, Richard Sharpe and his chosen men:

And here are some more pictures from that incredible website:

I'll look out for it then since I buy 100's of DVDs from eBay really really cheaply. I still haven't got round to watching the Hornblower DVD I bought months ago. So much to do. So little time.

But the 2 last DVDs don't work :S

Did you get a refund for them?

*sweet* I loved his work and actually corresponded with him briefly years ago. Thanks for saving the site (you can also use the Wayback Machine to recover old websites btw).

I have a highlander somewhere made from his design and I collected a few of the dark torsos and shakos in case I ever need a few riflemen.

I wonder what happened to him?

Ted Beard, what was the purpose of your correspondence with the creator.

Since you've communicated with him in the past maybe you sent him an Email and find out what he's upto these days - presuming you have his current Email address that is.

He just sent me note after I added his site to my links page and left a note in his guestboook. I expressed admiration for his stuff and he thanked me for the compliments.

I can have a look through my old emails but I did go through a big "delete old emails" phase so I might not have it any more. :-/

That's funny, I've also been communicating with him.

Here is his email:

Thanks for the interest - I put the whole project on hold about a year or so ago as it was getting too expensive - currently have about 200 or so complete figures, and a very small number of naval personel with 7 ships. I have cupboards in bedroom, spare room and bathroom full of forts and harbours and stuff.

If you enjoyed the Sharpe DVDs you really should read the books - they're so amazing... make sure you read them in chronological order though. He's written about 22 Sharpe novels with another one out in october. Simon Scarrow has just released his first napoleonic novel after a very good Roman series.

You have a pretty good French army there - I like the eagles.

keep up the good work - and check out lugnet for more inspiration (several lego napoleonic figure modellers)

By all means invite him to our humble forum...

I'm afraid he lost interest in Lego (even stopped paying for that beautiful website).

Maybe I can ask him to sell his army to me :-D

Our mission to reignite his interest! We must devise a plan at once!

How long ago did he lose interest in LEGO?

Seems like a good idea to revive this old thread because it appears the creator of this wonderful website will be selling his collection in the near future.

Will also be a pitty when his web side is lost ....

I think that side was the initiator of my interest in lego minifigs :-(

Seems a shame to loose such a classic collector. Blast this upcoming mortgage, I can't buy his stuff! (Where does he say this?)

On a side note, Sean Bean is currently filming another Sharpe TV Movie. Like the one from two years ago, it's set in India and is loosely based on one of the India books. (The last film a combination of two of the books.) Whilst it hasn't been the same since the dramatic ending of Waterloo (Why Harris and the old guy! WHY!) seeing as there isn't any glorious Redcoats and French lining up in green fields taking potshots, it'll still be grand.

Although he might be boycotting Eurobricks now that his thread has been closed. X-D
