DrJB Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 This might be obvious to some ... If so, please volunterr and explain this to the rest of us. I do know that System is the predecessor to Technic, but what is really 'Model Team'? Is it all those sets that had a Technic 'minifig' ... In such case, the 8457 Power Puller, is that a technic or a Model Team? Quote
Paul Boratko Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Model Team had been priimarily built from traditional system elements and bricks with little technic elements and functions. The overall appearance made the models look much more detailed than the standard Technic models... Quote
DrJB Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 Can you give examples of specific sets that are Model Team? Quote
Jim Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 This is by no means a full explanation, but Model Team is somewhere in the middle of Technic and Creator. It's based on Technic, but finished with studded parts, to give it a more "finished" look. The Power Puller is Technic. It has nothing to do with the figure being included or not. Check out the Model Team models and pay attention to the studded parts, which give it a different (more realistic/finished) look than pure Technic. Feel free to correct or elaborate on this description. On 10/12/2013 at 10:39 PM, DrJB said: Can you give examples of specific sets that are Model Team? Paul Boratko Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) The main(and mostly only function) in Model Team models is steering... Many Builders(Like Paul Kmiec LINK) have built some amazing models combining far more Technic functions and features into their highly detailed system built models... DrJB Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) Thank You. It seems many 'themes' were a synthesis of technic+else bricks, I can think of the many CITY construction sets (Cranes, dozer, ...) that heavily used technic elements, and the creator series (helicopter, 4x4, ...). Sounds to me like an 'evolution' theme ... that does not exist anymore. Edited October 12, 2013 by DrJB Quote
Blakbird Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Model Team sets said "Model Team" on the box, so that's a pretty easy way to know for sure. You can find a list of them at Brickset. Many people find that some of the later Creator models could have fit in with the Model Team style. Quote

I guess Model Team and Creator are pretty much the same when it comes to most of the vehicles. Quote
Kumbbl Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 (edited) maybe one addition to this topic from another view: The following is one of the best blend of technic and Model Team: And do not err from the look - this beast is full from bottom to roof with technic and functions, see the webpage. http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?f=74562 It is also at rebrickable so you can try it out ;-) BTW: There are some other outstanding blends of Technic and Model Team (mostly Tow trucks) but overall this seems to be my personal favorite... probably for its pneumatic heaven ;-) Edited October 13, 2013 by Kumbbl Quote
Carrera124 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Model Team sets use large amounts of plates, some classic bricks and few technic elements where needed (steering, axles). Imho, the Model Team series has been an early approach to appeal to older buyers, today known as "AFOLs" E.g. I saw quite a number of MT sets (especially 5590s) that have been bought and built once for static display purposes, because they simply look good. I also notice that used MT sets often come with their original box. Which indicates that they were bought as "single" sets from people that wouldn't have bought other "standard" Lego sets. Because they didn't want to play with Lego, they just wanted to build a nice static display model. In contrast to that, Technic sets had a "technical play" approach, I guess most of them were bought just like town/space/knight sets. Original boxes were dumped, parts were mixed up with other sets.
