Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Yeah, you heard right. Well, sort of right. My flea-market-prowling friend Brian showed up today with a "Mystery Bag" for me. I had to pay him five bucks for the five bucks he spent on it before I got to look inside. Weve known each other since before I could walk, so I knew that he was pulling my chain. I fork over the five bucks, look in the bag, and... ... Theres the hull of the Redbeard Runner looking back at me. Dumping the bag out, I appear to now own the hulls of both the Redbeard Runner and the Renegade Runner, most of their running gear, one of three sails for the Redbeard and both sails for the Renegade, and three of five cannon. So, they're missing peices; sails, a ships wheel, some masts, most of the minifigs, but whats there - and its almost all of both ships - is in pristene condition. Guess this is my lucky day, eh? :P Now I just face a dilemma: I now own three ships, all of different sizes. Realistically, Pirates would never use that hulking tub of a Redbeard Runner - Their tactics relied on speed. So, the natural thing would be to make the smallest one the pirate ship, the medium one the good guy ship (which happens to be the privateer Alcatani), and the largest one a merchant ship. It would certainly be more cost-effective to buy what missing running gear there is as opposed to trying to bring both of them back up to stock spec! Well, I had to tell somebody, so... yeah :P - The Ecstatic Admiral Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 27, 2007 Governor Posted March 27, 2007 This does indeed sound like a good find because you'd be lucky to get the hull alone of a Red Beard Runner for $5. You must have some loyal men at your command Admiral! Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Great find The Ecstatic Admiral *y* That's why i go to thrift shops at least weekly and flea markets to see if i can find such deals. Granted i have yet to get nearly as much pirate elements as you have gotten. But i have gotten about 2 gallons so far from thrift shops spending well under 10 USD total. P Quote
simonwillems Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 So... investing in the enemy, aren't we admiral.....? |-/ No seriously, great find and you did'nt even had to go to the fleamarket yourself! :'-) Quote
Capn Kirk 911 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Gesh... I wish everybody is that nice! That's a great find! You must have some serios luck Admril. :-D Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 27, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 27, 2007 Cool, someone comes to your house and offers you all that for only 5 bucks. Nice to have friends like that! Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 I have luck? The guy who brought me this is the guy who picked a large framed picture out of a trashbin because he thought the frame was nice and wanted to keep it, and found $1,500 in cash rolled up inside the picture frame when he took it apart to put another picture in. On the hand he could be very unlucky to find money like that, on the other hand he could be very unlucky if it belong to a nefarious character who put it there for safe keeping. That amount would be worth hunting down, espcially if it belonged to someone in debt to even more dubious characters or someone with some kind of addiction. Did your friend spend the $1,500 or take it to the police like a good lad? Quote
